While the boning in original stays was called whalebone, it was actually baleen, and had to be crafted into bones by a staymaker. If it were actually bone, it would have splintered after a couple uses, as it needed to be flexible and able to bend to conform to an hourglass shape. TMYK!
2 liter soda bottle cut in to strips too, i used an old soap jug(i wanted something stiffer and cheap)

where can i buy the steel or sturdy plastic corset boning? how much does this usually cost?

look it up on ebay, you can get 11'' spiral steel bones for about 30 bucks for 12 of them. hope this helps.

@natyr29 I use giant zip-ties. They only cost me eleven dollars for a package of fifty. You can get them at most hardware stores.
