Yes, you can make money with a site. Lots of people do it because it is free, easy, and enables you to build up capital to invest into a website. More importantly, it allows you to gain knowledge and skills with minimal risk and investment (other than your time) that you use later down the road when you decide to build your own website. If you can't make money with free methods, chances are you won't be able to with a website, either. It's a process. That's the real answer.
