Celtics coach Red Auerbach once asked Curt Gowdy which player had most impressed him when he broadcast the 1962 NCAA Final Four. He said John Havlicek - and Auerbach proceeded to draft the future basketball Hall of Fame member.
THANK YOU BROWNS. After his senior season Havlicek was drafted into two professional sports leagues. The NFL's Cleveland Browns selected him in the seventh round of the 1962 NFL Draft, the Boston Celtics nabbed him in the first round of the NBA Draft. The Browns, impressed with Havlicek's athletic ability and his 6-5, 205-pound frame, tried him at wide receiver. He played in several exhibition games that summer before being released by the team in favor of future All-Pro Gary Collins.
Oh who could compete with Hondo? He was tall had great hops and could drain hard shots. If only we had a worse guard then the best guard [possibly ever] Hondo would get more playing time.
A sportswriter once said "twenty-five years from now no one will believe such a player ever existed, he's that good!.". He's still the best. Ever. #17.
John Havlicek is the man. He came into my boat yard yesterday to pick up his grady white. Mercury sends him a free 200 horsepower OptiMax every year for free haha.

Hondo has scored 26,000 Pts with no 3PTers. Yet Youtube only has three of his highlights... how is this possible?

Before Larry Bird was clutch as a Boston Celtic, it was John 'Hondo' Havlicek providing dramatics in the old Boston Garden as a Celtic.
