  • Thanks so much for sharing this- just come across it, and can't believe I hadn't done so before. I'm a John Hiatt nut, but a relatively new convert.

  • Although I love John Hiatt, I don't think his performance matches Roy Orbison's.

  • One of the best songs made and a beautiful performance of John

  • brilliant

  • first time I've heard this guy I think he done a wonderful job of this and the big O would of loved it

  • Muito boa mesmo a interpretação dessa banda!

  • a Wonderful tribute By John Hlatt and the acompanying band and singers.

  • Wow. John H sure looks normal compared to some of the other strange looking people in this video. That's weird. Oh, and he does a great job on t his song too. A zillion thumbs up!

  • Beautiful, tribute. I love JH. The other poster is right, Roy would have loved this.

  • a fine cover, but when you're doing a song first sung by someone who was said to have "the voice of God" it is a hard act to follow.

    Miss you Roy.

  • Is Bob Dylan playing bass?

  • @dylanbradbury No, that's Don Was (From the band Was Not Was), the man is also a very in demand producer. As is often the case on a Tribute show, the backup band is usually excellent!

  • @9erfandex Thanks for letting me know. :)

  • @dylanbradbury Not a problem, and, by the way, I like your youtube moniker, it in corporates 2 of my fave authors!

  • @9erfandex Haha, that's all thanks to my parents. I'm very unoriginal when it comes to choosing usernames.

  • @dylanbradbury Well its howie epstien

  • Great stuff...there's also a video of Levon Helm covering "Mean Woman Blues", probably from the same concert...

  • But I know that love is necessary

    And that despite the distance,

    There is a reality

    That one day love me

And that will always be here

    Inside.

how I missed this song back ...

  • Professionally done. A fine tribute to one of Roy's songs.

  • This is a pretty good version of Roy's song. Of course, Tinorbison;'s version is better...Check it out at Tinorbison...Give a listen...

  • Who is John Hlat??

They all try...but that's all it is.

  • @goldenhammersp1 He's one of the finest singer/songwriters in America... Ry Cooder, Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett, Robert Cray played with him. And he wrote songs for Joe Cocker, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Iggy Pop and Willy DeVille... it is not "all"...

  • @lynyrdpez good call...........

  • Good cover from Roy Orbison´s song You Got It.

This is a wonderfull song ;)

    Thanks for upload.

    Greetings,

    ((^.~))

    ~Tinorbison~

  • 2:00-2:06 amazing

  • awesome version!

  • i cant listn to it beacsue of my Shitty computer :P its a piece of shit

  • I am very equal to Roy's voice.. I also look like Roy Orbison. I reside in Brooklyn, NYC. Catch me sometime. You'll be very Amazed!! Arty

  • The king over the covers shouldn´t cover prefect stuff

    Orbinson is the KING

and Hiatt is the BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEST ! of making Hiatt !!

  • Very good, isn't like Orbison, but very cool! (Muito bom, não como Orbison, mas muito legal!)

  • John's just the best..

  • Just one of the best country - rock musicians I ever heard...

  • very good "tribute"

    long life Roy Orbison

  • Tremendous. Great cover, great singer. 5/5.

  • Brilliant!

  • Great, never seen it before.

  • SUPER

  • He cuts off too soon when he sings "you got it" and his voice isn't as smooth or clear

  • @BucksStudent Is there anyone in the history of music who's voice is as smooth & clear as Roy Orbison's???

  • Yes, and it is John Hiatt :)

  • Nice cover John Hiatt! And why not you are one of the best, not unlike Roy "The Big O His Bad Self" Orbison, And Hey How about that Back up BAND! They are nothiong short of the best By God musicians available! So thanks to: mbroders for the upload( thanks for both sharing and caring), Thanks as always to You Tube for the generous space, and to John Hiatt, you are not for the phony or faint of heart, just a veritable genuine rockin' 21st century virtuoso! Roy Rest In Peace old son! U R MISSED!!

  • Great Rendition and Thanks for Posting.

    TCB DANNY

  • gibts hier kein orginal mehr von dem lied wer will schon den kack da hören

  • who's forcing you, dumbwit? - Go away and keep your stupid comments to yourself.

  • ROY ORBISON IS A TRUE LEGEND.... !!!

  • no duh

  • this is great! Ive heard of Hiatt but this is awesome

  • жесьтнах

  • great cover

  • Great cover fantastic 5 stars xxxxx Ferdinando Barros

  • Stig Eikedal Andersen: you got it.

    Your Spanish lover, Maria.

    Always.

  • Hiatt is fantastic, and this is a very respectful version of Roy's work! Hiatt is incredible.

Just listen to his work with Robert Cray!

  • love Roy Orbison. Anyone see his last concert DVD? was unforgettable !

  • Great! ;)

  • John Hiatt's got soul, and Roy would have loved this.

  • Main difference: this guy is stuck to rock for life, and Roy could have done opera. His voice sounded so awesome and trained, and his high register was excellently relaxed.

  • I don't think he's even trying to match Roy Orbison's voice - nobody can. This is merely a tribute - done after Roy Orbison's death - where the main purpose is to remember the song through a performance that have to stand in it's own right. And I think John Hiatt manages that perfectly with soul in his voice, and the powerful aid of the band and chorus.

  • i totally agree with you, he would have disrespected Roy by attempting to sound like him. great comment. and Hiatt does a nice job here.

  • @mbroders he does well, in his way. As for matching Roys voice, i'll give it a go! been told often enough when i've done karaoke it's like being in the room with the Big "O" - hell, i'll put their money where my mouth is!!!

  • @JasonVanBoylan Dude, nobody can do Roy-it's a tribute. Orbison had a gift from God.

  • @JasonVanBoylan

What a tight-ass you have to be to compare somebody covering Roy's song at Roy's tribute to Roy's version! Christ! How insecure do you have to be do that?

  • John Hiatt is so fantastic. At all times, in all ways. Seriously does Roy some justice here. WOW.

  • Kenny Aronoff on fire!! :)

  • Yeeesssss! Thanks, really good and HE got it!

  • great !!!

  • Awesome!!!

    Grandma Mary

  • yes, do it, please. Thanks a lot!

  • JC, Italy... from T., Spain

Anything you need ... you've got it

    in you.

To bear in mind in difficult times...

  • what a good version! i didn't know this man, I'll have to watch some more videos... thanks for posting it!

  • If you haven't got all of John Hiatt's back catalogue, then I envy you, because Ill never get to listen to his stuff for the first time again. Keep an eye out for him live.

  • yes, do it, and thanks a lot, MJQ78!

  • Holy Crap I've got goose bumps! I love the was Don Was feeds that bass line to the horns and John's voice!!! Jesus......

  • I've been wanting to see this again for 18 years! Many thanks...

  • Don Was is the best.

  • Roy was the absolute best. He is the soul of rock and roll.

  • Excellent version indeed!

    I'm lovin' it to pieces.

  • Thanks for posting this...are there more videos/performances from this tribute concert???

    Chaz

  • Sorry, that's the only one I've got

  • mbroders, your contributions to youtube are really the best,in my opinion. john hiatt is also great in covering others songs.

  • Em, that's not Clarence Clemons.

  • It's not ??? - my bad, sorry. Do you know who it is on sax ?

  • sorry. I really don't but I'm trying to find out. Great video though.
