I have never made a comment to any video ever!! For some reason your answers make so much sense and you seem very smart and knowledgeable... I wish I could surround myself with more people like you. Personally I think the world we live in is god, just the rare chance that all of this came to be. :)
I have a question for you: Why do you think it's valuable to advance civilization if you're just going to die anyway? I think the true meaning of life is that there is no meaning. Simply enjoy yourself. It just happens to be that the things that humans enjoy tend to advance society because it's evolutionarily favorable.
@Krutchtacular Is this a trick question? Are you saying that you don't appreciate having running water? Electricity? Modern medicine? Hell...THE INTERNET? There have been many advances that have happened during my life that I get to enjoy and appreciate daily...why WOULDN'T I think it's valuable?
@dmed312 And you believe this bizarre concept? The uptight "no sex before married" Christians have more sex than the "no sky daddy is watching us so we can just enjoy life" atheists? I'm afraid that practically EVERY POLL ON THE PLANET that has EVER been conducted about sexuality disagrees with you.
But since you are only a Christian for your own sexual desires and you believe (I assume) in an omnipotent god, then that means you'll end up in Hell with the rest of us, right?
@KingHeathen WRONG... as a christian, he may spend his studly years rapping lil boys until his heart is content and still be welcomed into the pearly gates of heaven as long as he doesn't forget to telepathically declare JESUS as his only master and ask forgiveness of his sins before he croakes.
let me start off by saying that i do believe in God. whether you call it God or Allah or this or that, it think we need to stop fighting over the name of this higher power. And ssecond of all, all of you christians need to stop attacking this gentleman who chooses not to have faith in the bible. What's it to you? Why are you so scared when someone doesn't agree with your views? I'll tell you why, your faith isn't strong enough and you've begun to question yourself. Arguing with him helps nothin
I agree. furthermore, why on earth would a so called god, in his omnipotence, possibly care whether I have glorified him or not? is he that vain and insecure?
"think about it", is an assumption that 1 I can think, 2 that I care enought to follow your (good, to me) advice. I assume that since you are reading this you have reason to believe or hope to find out that 1 and 2 are correct. I like your purpose(S) of life are different for everyone. I believe my purpose(S) in life is to be a truth seeker, and I haven't found much. I do believe that the normal or bell curve is my best way of understanding human behavior. Have video WEIGHTING IN ON GOD.
If God didn't exist I would kill myself today. Why keep dealing with the day to day grind with nothing to look forward to later? Going to work everyday for a paycheck that won't cover my bills just so I can be broke again. Why keep this going if I'm just going to turn to dust anyway? It doesn't make any sense. The only thing that keeps me going is God's promise that those that are least on earth will be greatest in the kingdom of heaven. I'm looking forward to the mansion that God promised
@mickey42743 Wow, sorry to hear that your life sucks so bad. Maybe it will get better. Perhaps if you tried living for THIS life instead of a promised next one that you don't know is real or not, then you might start getting ahead and not be in such dire straits. Either way, please stop watching my videos. I'd hate for you to watch one, it make enough sense to you that you realized your god isn't real and then you did kill yourself. Please seek professional help for your depression.
@KingHeathen I'm not depressed because I have the promise of eternal happiness. I'm just stating the fact that the misery of this world is not necessary if you don't believe in God. Why bother to struggle through this world at all if you're just going to become dirt with no future? It makes no sense. I'm glad I have something to look forward to besides eternal torture. God gave you a choice and you have made yours.
@mickey42743 Let me clear this up for you AGAIN....
I'M NOT MISERABLE. I don't see life as such a horrible thing. I don't "struggle" with it at all. If you think your life IS so bad that the only thing that makes it worth the trouble is the promise of heaven afterward, then you ARE depressed...and if you say you aren't, then you are in denial...which is a sign of depression.
@KingHeathen I guess you don't have trials and tribulations. That's amazing!!! You are the first one ever. Life is very short. Enjoy it while you can because you have eternal misery coming very soon.
@mickey42743 You still don't get it. While, I might stub my toe one day, I'm not going to cut off my foot to avoid doing it in the future. The ability to walk far outweighs the dangers of stubbing my toe again. The idea that I might get hungry one day doesn't take away my ability to enjoy a meal. The sadness of losing someone I care about doesn't take away the joy of spending time with them before. Life isn't miserable unless you are depressed and focused on your misery...which I'm NOT.
@KingHeathen I'm sorry but you don't get. Do you really think the 75 years or so that you live on this rock is all there is? You better give some thought to the stuff you're shoveling. You are letting satan control you. God gave us free will and a very simple choice to make with it. If I believe in Jesus and I'm wrong, I haven't lost anything. If you don't believe and you're wrong..., well..., that is a VERY stupid gamble. That's like gambling money for a chance to win some dirt.
@mickey42743 YES! This is IT! You don't exist...your parents have sex and then you do exist...later you die and you don't exist again. There is no Satan, there is no Hell, and there is no god.
PS...watch "For the last time: Pascal's Wager"
In short...if you are wrong and Islam is right, you are still screwed.
@KingHeathen Not a problem. Islam is not right! God makes it very clear that there is only ONE way and that's Jesus Christ. I did exist before my parents had sex because Jesus said that before I was formed in the womb, He knew me. You can't know someone that doesn't exist. Again, you are putting your trust in humans. Humans are very flawed creatures. Trust the one that created the humans.
@mickey42743 Allah makes it very clear that there is only ONE way and that's Islam.
There is no evidence for your god...end of story. The only things we know about your claimed god comes from those same flawed humans. How are you not getting that?
@mickey42743 humans are so flawed they wrote a book that you put all your hopes and beliefs in and live a life with a closed mind and no meaning to your own life but are living a life suggested to you buy someone who wrote a story 2000 years ago. i feel sorry for you and i hope one day you may do some thinking and considering all odds before you put faith in something that there is no evidence of.
@zepfan74 Christians with are close minded? Haha don't make me laugh... Its atheists with closed mind who can't even contemplate the possible chance of a spiritual realm or god. You know it takes a little thinking outside the box to become a christian, yet atheists will believe what ever science feeds them on a plate.
Atheists = People using there left side of brain.
Christians = People using there right side of brain.
I suggest you learn about the different sides of the human brain.
@k12rising Scientists are by definition skeptics. In order for something to be real science is must be falsifiable so it can be tested, so nothing that is true science is believed to be true for no reason.
@mickey42743 there are 4 things I know, 1 I am alive. 2 I will die. 3. I am writing this. 4 the time is now. My wife says that "Now is all we have!" I believe you wrote and know " If I believe in Jesus and I'm wrong, I haven't lost anything." I like looking for Truth, your truth mickey42743 and KingHeathen's truth seem to be inconsistent it is hard for me to believe you can both be right. My point is if one of you is wrong when and who misled you and why are we so concerned with this??
The meaning of life is to live. Simple and generic enough to apply to all living things and also propose that the answer is in the question itself.
WHY?:
All living organisms strive, adapt, behave on the most basic of motor functions, even us. They need to survive/live. For what reason i don't know. But i do know that with life comes living. And as long as there's life it means we're all suppose to live it. Or is life simply naive enough to think it'll exist forever? what matters now?
that author is contradicting himself sumtimes. i dont completely disagree with everything u say but i dun consider myself an atheist because i do believe in god and good and god is supposed to equal to good. we humans just overrate ourselves so badly, like we are supposed to know the answer to such a questions like why does oxygen keep us alive so we dont die. not how, why. or that we need to understand animals and shit like that. waste of time cuz the universe will go on with or without us.
The meaning of life is whatever you make of it. Whatever you think is the best way to exist, that is your meaning in life. You do not need an outside influence to define what your meaning is for you. I rather like the idea that I'M the one who decides what my life means, not a celestial dictator. Also, life is infinitely more meaningful if this is the only one you have and there's no eternal life.
The purpose of our being is 'To Experience Pleasure', whether it's through the joys of raising kids, eating your favourite food, listening to your favourite music, doing activities that please you, whatever! To Experience Pleasure
so KingHeathen you want to do good things for people and not bad things, like changing the peoples POV in their God and convince them they are wasting life and your time by their beliefs ?
He is educating and opening your mind most likely.
It's almost impossible to make a deeply religous human convert to atheism of not forced. They are severely indoctrined or believing they neglect whatever you say, even if it is reason with: But my bible says this and i know its the right.
You cant reason with those people. Though there is rationall christians out there aswell.
Whats bad with opening their eyes? He dont say they should stop believe, just that he dont and never will.
But how did the atheist's parents know how to live? If you keep going back until the end you will realise that this 'rule' was made up by humans. So why can't i make a rule up? If i go around knifing people, kill 300 people and get myself killed it really doesn't matter. No God will judge me in the afterlife and no one can punish me once i'm dead. Sure i will be remembered as a violet evil person but i don't care, i'm dead.
Your suggestion about the parents is wrong too. For example, my great grandparents were extremely racists. My grandmother was as well, but my grandfather wasn't as much. My parents are still fairly bigoted. Yet I completely reject the idea. "Morality" has changed over time. This is proof that your idea of how we learn right and wrong is utterly false.
Some aspects may change but the core remains the same. Your racist grandparents didn't go around being racist to everyone. They still had their idea of what was right which probably came from their parents etc.
you don't know them nor were you there....so YET AGAIN you fail to read minds or show any signs of clairvoyance...why do you keep trying pretend to know things that you don't know?
I am taking an educated guess. For the third time; I CAN'T READ MINDS. From what you have told me about them i can make a guess on what they were like. Ever used the concept of 'x' before?
And if it is not too much please, question my mind reading ability again.
First of all, Errosion, if you went around knifing people; I'd say you would only get about a dozen or so before you got caught. Don't get me wrong but I doubt even the best knife murderers being able to kill 300.
Second, if that is really how you would feel (knife rampage) if you found out there was no god. Then go right ahead. Society would benefit by your passing. And anyone else for that matter. Your threats of violence change NOTHING. Your arguments are arbitrary and pointless. Goodbye.
"if that is really how you would feel (knife rampage) if you found out there was no god." Why limit myself to knifing when there's raping, shooting, gangbashing, torturing and blowing up bombs in people's cars. Since i'm an atheist there's no need for morals. If i rape a five year old girl who cares, i won't. Self consiousness according to atheists is man made. You atheists have it good...
We care you fool, all you are doing here is showing us that the only reason you don't kill people is because of your religion, quite frankly that is disgusting.
I'm an atheist/anti-theist and I don't go around killing people or anything you suggested nor do the majority of other atheist, so that makes me a better person than you.
you have a bad outlook on the human race, you should have more respect for your fellow humans and yourself for that matter.
"quite frankly that is disgusting" Call it what you want. An atheist who doesn't thinks like this is ignorant.
"so that makes me a better person than you." Who's to say who is better than who? What is a good person and what basis do you answer that on?
"you should have more respect for your fellow humans" I'm not saying i do act like this. I have legitimate reason(s) for not acting like this, atheists don't.
Our parents and our society instil us with our morals, if you were to ask people from all around the world what the morals are, you would get many different answers, it is arrogant to think that your moral laws are the best or are the only morals one can have.
We see our moral nature in other animals especially primates, many animals exhibit altruistic behaviour, to say that it can only come from belief in a god, belittles its meaning.
Just another "we are holier than thou" attempt by theists.
We are subjected to the same feeling of guilt as you only we know the actual cause and we don't wast our time praying forgiveness from a magical sky wizard. Now if religion is the only thing keeping you from doing those things then by all means remain ignorant to the truth, but let the rest of us be free from your nonsense and let us believe what we want. It is people like you who pushed me to become atheist with your condescending attitude and closed-mindedness. Also you need to get mental help
"We are subjected to the same feeling of guilt" Guilt is a pointless emotion in an atheist world.
"but let the rest of us be free from your nonsense and let us believe what we want." Who's to say i'm wrong? I'll let you believe in what you want to anyway.
"your condescending attitude and closed-mindedness. "And here come the insults!
"Also you need to get mental help" Yeah, but right after i go and kill my parents
You know nothing of the atheist world you R passing judgment w/o experiencing. U can't hate the color blue if you've never seen it. Now I was a DEVOTE christian & I now give my opinion on it while you throw around groundless accusations. Guilt & all other emotions (which you miss interpret as the holy spirit) R just as much in our lives as in yours.
& all evidence & logic says your wrong.
Insults that R sound & have good reason & proof to back them.
Even if i didn't know of the atheist world i (would) take no pleasure in knowing it.
"Guilt & all other emotions (which you miss interpret as the holy spirit)" You hypocrit. You couldn't possible know what i believe in and yet you still make accusations like this.
Insults are a waste of time.
"What would god think? Oh right he doesnt exist" What an intricate and resounding argument!
"Even if i didn't know of the atheist world i (would) take no pleasure in knowing it" Either know it and give your opinion or hate it and keep your mouth shut. You can't have it both ways.
""Guilt & all other emotions (which you miss interpret as the holy spirit)" You hypocrit. You couldn't possible know what i believe in and yet you still make accusations like this."
"I am a Christian" this is what is written on your profile page. Christians believe in the holy spirit, (continued)
(Continued) I do research on people that I'm arguing with.
"Insults are a waste of time." actually some insults are helpful, it is called constructive criticism, but for the most part yes they are a waste of time.
""What would god think? Oh right he doesnt exist" What an intricate and resounding argument! " It wasn't an argument it was just a statement, however I can evaluate the statement if you like.
I can prove God (or the 1 in the bible at least) doesn't exist. He thought the world was flat, covered by a dome & that the sky was blue because there was water beyond the dome. He said the clouds were the farthest we could go before hitting said dome. He thought the sun revolved around the earth & he thought that a whale was a fish. Called the whale that ate Jonna a great fish then Luke called it a whale. He doesnt seem all knowing 2 me. He also said 2 stone disobedient children not kind either
No I'm not agnostic, I was proving the God of the bible wrong because the argument wouldn't have been the same for a Hindu God.
"Where does it say that in the Bible?" By Luke I ment Mathew, and right here.
Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (continued)
and what would you do with this child that doesnt obey his father and mother ?
please give us the correct answer so that i wont stone my kid to death . should i let him remain evil, he keeps bringing home human body parts saying its for a school science project and im running out of room in the basement freezer !
there is a sick dark humor in your comment that didn't go unappreciated...but responding to your question:
There are better ways to deal with a child other than (1) let him do what he wants or (2) kill him. If your parenting skills are so poor that those are the only two options that you can think of, then you shouldn't have children. I'll send DFACS to your home right away.
Thats what shrinks are for, aside from that, the god of the bible is probably the worst father figure i have ever seen. taking parenting advice from god is like asking tom cruise for advice on ANYTHING!!! lol
Well regardless of your interpretation of what is and is not metaphor in the bible most funamentalist when asked say that the HOLEY BUYBULL is to be taken literally and that when god said he meant it, and in the past primitive christians did stone to death many people including their own children, in fact the are recent accounts of women murdering their children because they say god demanded they do it, the fact is regardless of what you see in the bible others will use it to justify there acts
THE meaning of life is to try and live your life the way God intended it to be lived. This means having good manners, being considerate, not gunning people down in the street etc. Being 'good' is what God wants you to do, he implied that in the Bible. Without the Bible i wouldn't know how to live but since atheists don't have a Bible how do they know how to live? They don't, they just copied their parents.
"THE meaning of life is to try and live your life the way God intended it to be lived."
That's YOUR opinion and others disagree. Your position completely loses all credibility considering that you can't even prove your god actually exists. So you could be living your life for a fictitious character.
Oh, really? You wouldn't? So let's say you go out and rob a store? What would happen? In a primitive society, the storeowner or his kin would probably kill you. In a civilized society we have something called laws, that are made to protect both the storeowner and you in this situation.
Morality is the result of evolution and if you extend the argument so are laws. Memes that aren't prone to survival die out. In a way it's the golden rule, which for your information is far older than Jesus.
I had heard about this fellow and thought I'd check his channel out. I saw the titles of his videos and thought that they looked boring. But I decided I should watch at least one. I looked in challenges to Christians because I thought that would be most interesting and found the most interesting sounding recent title.
Not challenging. Not interesting. Boring, self indulgent useless. But also not very offensive and that's a sort of positive.
The meaning of life, is to make new life. Take that meaning away and life goes back to not existing. Someone might think that one person's meaning of life may be to farm land in hopes to feed the hungry, while someone elses is to build houses.. this isin't 'the' meaning of life, it's an occupation and, essential to today's standards, an evolutionary attribute of mankind. Life extends outside of humanity. What is Algae's meaning of life? To make your pool green? Nah, it's just making new life.
Just because 500 people have 500 hundred meanings to life doesn't mean any of them have the real reason to our existence. Whatever made us surely had a purpose for our existence. Denying that would imply 'things happen for no reason'. Or that we have always been. However, both arbitary and to be quite honest, wrong.
I'm starting to wonder if you even watch my videos all the way through...I cover this thoroughly and you still come back with, "...doesn't mean any of them have THE REAL reason to our existence."
THE reason? Why would their be only one? Why couldn't there be MANY reasons? Why can't we make our own reason?
Next, "Whatever made us surely had a purpose for our existence" assumes that a "whatever" made us. I contend that evolution happened, no "whatever" to require a purpose out of us.
There is only one real reason. If you made your own reason, yes there is a chance that it was right coincidently, but chances are it is wrong.
For example, if i open a door, one could conclude that i opened the door. OR they could say that the door opened on its own accord. What i'm saying is you can't say both things, its either one or the other.
If nothing made us then the only logical sollution to that is that we have always existed.
"If nothing made us then the only logical sollution to that is that we have always existed." - there is nothing logical to that conclusion. If nothing made us, abiogenesis and evolution work just fine. Not to mention the deist concept of "god".
And "says me"....you're wrong. A van's purpose is to transport people. A truck's purpose is to transport cargo. In the "species" of cars, why would they all need to have one single purpose? Even WITH a creator, it's illogical. Did Jesus have the same purpose as the rest of us? Did Noah? Did Moses? Life is diverse, a single uniform "meaning of life" is illogical.
While yes, people live for a number of different reasons, it is all for one goal really. You can not compare/provide analogies with automobiles and humans, automobiles don't have souls. Noah, Moses and everyone else had a different purpose in THAT life but, in terms of the big picture they had the same goal, to be with our father in heaven.
People don't have souls either...but that's a whole other argument...
Now, I want you to notice what you did here. You acknowledge that Moses, Noah, etc had purpose in THAT life...then you arbitrarily add an additional reason after their death. The question here is "what is the meaning of life"....not the afterlife. So without the existence of a god (hypothetically if you wish), there still IS "meaning" to THIS life...as you just confirmed.
"The question here is "what is the meaning of life"....not the afterlife." Whoever said we get one life on this earth? I'm not talking about the afterlife (that's a whole other argument). I'll be unambiguous, I believe in reincarnation. Since you are an atheist (correct me if i'm wrong) would naturally not agree to that i assume.
at one point I thought reincarnation made sense...it certain makes more sense than the "Heaven/Hell" idea...but eventually, no...it failed to stand up to the scrutiny. I have a video where I talk about that...but I don't remember which one it is.
I believe in heaven but not hell (hell is a joke). "it failed to stand up to the scrutiny" there are some strong stories to back it up (Gwen Mcdonald's)
Do you have any idea what the reincarnation video is titled?
no...I don't remember. It wasn't what the video was "about"...I just mention it in passing. I want to say it's in my "Deist to Agnostic" video...but that doesn't seem right.
"but that doesn't seem right." Where would it seem right to argue about the topic then? How about here if there's no (right) video of yours in relation to the topic?
no...I meant that it doesn't seem right that I put it in that video which makes me think I said it somewhere else....but the topic would have fit into it...just some reason it doesn't seem like that's the video I did it on.
One way to find out would be to watch it and see...I can't use my speakers right now, or I would.
The ironic thing is that i can't watch videos either. I won't go into detail but my internet speed is just far too low because my internet provider always stuffs things up. All i can do is respond to/make comments until 11 May (that will be the 10th in Amercia i think), sorry.
i do not get it because for some reason you seem to think that everything i say is not worth the effort, you are weak by that...very weak since you are the one considering everything that is not nearly the same as your opinion is not worth it. my whole point was that it do care even less then you whatever you are thinking, i am sure i would rather die then submit to your empty and horrifying ideas...psycho
(part 2) that exist on this amazing planet (which are quite a few) WE do NOT have a purpose to life is roughly 1E to the -12th which translates to roughly .000000000000000000001% to compare, the change to be burned by god, struck by lighting and attack by a snake whilst falling of the moon dying because you were to late for a conference is even more likely. i think i made myself quite clear
@KH you can reply what ever you want but do not think that you might even be able to convince me elsewise
I couldn't give a rat's ass on a trapeze whether or not I can convince you otherwise...Your position is bullshit. "Purpose" is what we MAKE OF IT! I stick's purpose is to rot and refertilize the ground unless I pick it up and use it to bash you over the head with it or if I use it to help dig a hole or if I use it to help me hike a trail or if I.....hopefully you get the idea by now...
Who am I kidding? You still don't get it, do you?
i just discovered that there MUST be a meaning to life just by thinking what would happen if there was NO meaning to life. what do trees do? provide oxygen is the scienific aswer..what does a table do? serve us by enabaling us to plave things on it...really everything here has a job or purpose to forfill, then why not us? if we truly are so clever and the greatest species on this planet as many say then is it not likely that we have a purpose? the change that of all things (read part 2)
hi i really enjoy watching all your v ideos youre my fav so far. my biggest problem is i dont know what to believe. i dont believe we were created from dust and a rib that dunb. i believe more in evolution i believe we could have evolved overtime. at the same time i do believe that everything is so perfect why couldn't gods devine plan be that we evolve over time. i think bout how darwins theory was debunked becuz he couldnt explain how the eye ball could evolve over time its to complex help!
vannilsa...sorry, but the evolution of the eye HAS been proven. The thing you've heard about Darwin is a quote mine. They took a segment of a sentence where he said that he understood how crazy it must sound that it would have evolved....and they leave off the second half where he explains how it could have evolved. Since then, we've found the evidence backing him up.
I did a meaning of life video a year or two back (around the time you made the deconversion video). I submitted that the meaning of life was to leave a positive impact on the world.
Haha, you are very fucking geeky. huh huh... but anyhow, lmmfao that's just funny.
But yeah i don't believe in god, but at the same time i don't disbelieve in god. And believe me when i say that i think that most likey and indisputebly there isn't a god, if that makes sense.
Christianity is, in my books, a tailor-made religion. Each believer sets their own rules. Some believers say being gay is a sin, while I've met gay Christians who say it's ok. Some go to church, some don't. Some have no problem with sex before marriage, while others believe it'll send them to hell. But as this vid points out, it's not just Christians who have varied ideas, it's everyone! We're all the same in that we all have a different take on things.
The Meaning of Life.... it is the manifestation of God's Holy Word. God's word describes every path a heart may follow along with each conciquence. That's it. The PURPOSE is to the Glory of the Creator
He's saying there are many different activities, which is true, but the Christians believe it all has one purpose - which is to glorify God. The activities by themselves have no "meaning" or purpose. He has not answered the question of meaning or purpose at all!
Determining meaning for oneself is a concept that atheists seem to have a much simpler time understanding than Christians because of the mental framework that has been constructed during the indoctrination period that they are unable to let go of.
The meaning of things, as I understand it, is related to a thing's purpose. We make use of every element that is at our disposal, even the sun, is useful to us, so we assign it meaning.
Is god alive? If he is... Does his life have a meaning as well? If it doesnt... couldnt we say the same about our life too? If he is not alive... why worship him?
Hm, question is, why wouldn't you believe there is an afterlife, you claim to be alive now and you claim to have the intelligence to make that claim/opinion/statement, if you're alive now then why can't there be a life after this one in a different form of existence?
Take that a step further, if we had a beginning, why not a creator?
The meaning of life is potential. Give meaning to your life. Never let anybody tell you what your life means.
In my life, I find that I am most fulfilled by being kind to those I meet, and helping people to cope with their lives and find their own meanings. That's why I'm studying psychology and counseling. Though I am not a follower of any of the Abrahamic religions, I find my personal philosophy very much embody in Micah 6:8 (I'm low on space, so look it up if you're interested).
topsybingo Maybe you should consider spell checking before you call someone a moron; spelling it "moran" can make you look rather stupid. Just a suggestion.
You have to think of it on a microscopic and back in time type of thing. Why did life come to be? Why do little 'nothings' want to even survive? What DRIVES them to be even CREATED or want to keep going? Having a microscopic instinct is far more curious than the human brain will ever be. How a non-living creature can be formed from unliving objects is mind boggling and hard to explain in the "big bang theory". I'll stick to my higher being idea, but that's not why I have morals and help people.
Big bang and abiogenesis are different things. No wonder you theists are still in the dark. You cant tell the difference. Its like the difference between popcorn and butter. but we all know they go great together. You should really learn something before making comments like that. Like read somthing other then the bible.
you know what happened to me last week, some church bus pulled in our driveway and knocked on our door and we didnt answer it because we didnt want to talk to them and we turned our tv off so they think were not home and after they knocked on the door for 10 minutes they go and look through our big window..i mean what the hell is that...is that their way of spreading a message is to be annoying as all hell? my meaning of life is to just do whatever i like to do and dont let anyone tell me i cant
If some creeps came to my house trying to spread the word of god like THAT I'd run around in front of the window naked... Or in cute fluffy panties. and a whip. THAT'd freak'em out (or make them feel sinful) xD
LOL -- I love the way that each time Chef's Dad (or was it Uncle, I forget) told the story, details would change. One time it's a "creature from the paleozoic era" and another time it's a "creature from the paleolithic era." Those two eras are separated by something like 570 million years.
If you have to be created to have meaning, and if there is no God, then the Bus time table has more meaning than you. The problem is, if there is a creator, the Bus time table must have more meaning than God still!
I love you, man. Thanks so much for your videos. Your opinions are always valued and respected. I completely agree with you; I don't think that a "meaning of life" is necessary. Rather, I live in order to please myself and those I love as much as I possibly can. If that is a "meaning of life," then great. I see it simply as a philosophy. Interestingly, the above is one of the main tenants of LaVeyan Satanism. Hm... and Christians are opposed to that?
One time, someone asked me how I woke up in the morning if I believed there was no god.
I was really confused by this reaction, because I had grown up without the idea of god, and later in life I looked into it but had no need or interest. I find my life to be fulfilling and I'm happy.
I couldn't understand how someone's entire happiness hinged on the belief in an invisible creature. It seems vacuous and unstable to me.
The meaning of life is whatever you make of it. Does it really matter?
Little logical error on your part: they all have the same meaning/purpose: glorify god. All the things you listed are different ways/plans to fulfill/achieve that meaning.
I have to wonder about those working in charity who say their purpose is to glorify god. That suggests they don't care about the people they're helping, they don't care about the problems in the world, they don't care if people suffer or not, they're just doing it to glorify god, supposedly to please god, but only doing it FOR their god, and not for people.
I find it amusing how meany theists need to be told by someone else what the meaning of life is, or what moral code to follow, and how to think otherwise they're totally lost. It is like children looking to a parent to tell them how and what they're supposed to think on various subjects.
Thing is, if the meaning of life were so damn important, like people claim it to be, it would be instinctive, not some obscure thing humanity takes hundreds of years to discover. The ecological purpose of bees is pollination, which they automatically do, being bees. The purpose of a clock is to tell time, which it does automatically the moment it is a finished, working clock. If the meaning of life is both objective and important, it is something we automatically do and have done for 100s of yrs
In my opinion, the meaning of life is to experience. Everything that occurs, is an experience, whether it's helping someone, going sky-diving, worshipping an invisible sky-daddy, etc. It's all an experience and life to me would be meaningless if one can't experience anything.

KingHeathen 1 year ago

I'm looking forward to the mansion that God promised
mickey42743 1 year ago
@mickey42743 Wow, sorry to hear that your life sucks so bad. Maybe it will get better. Perhaps if you tried living for THIS life instead of a promised next one that you don't know is real or not, then you might start getting ahead and not be in such dire straits. Either way, please stop watching my videos. I'd hate for you to watch one, it make enough sense to you that you realized your god isn't real and then you did kill yourself. Please seek professional help for your depression.
KingHeathen 1 year ago
@KingHeathen I'm not depressed because I have the promise of eternal happiness. I'm just stating the fact that the misery of this world is not necessary if you don't believe in God. Why bother to struggle through this world at all if you're just going to become dirt with no future? It makes no sense. I'm glad I have something to look forward to besides eternal torture. God gave you a choice and you have made yours.
mickey42743 1 year ago
@mickey42743 Let me clear this up for you AGAIN....
I'M NOT MISERABLE. I don't see life as such a horrible thing. I don't "struggle" with it at all. If you think your life IS so bad that the only thing that makes it worth the trouble is the promise of heaven afterward, then you ARE depressed...and if you say you aren't, then you are in denial...which is a sign of depression.
KingHeathen 1 year ago
@KingHeathen I guess you don't have trials and tribulations. That's amazing!!! You are the first one ever. Life is very short. Enjoy it while you can because you have eternal misery coming very soon.
mickey42743 1 year ago
@mickey42743 You still don't get it. While, I might stub my toe one day, I'm not going to cut off my foot to avoid doing it in the future. The ability to walk far outweighs the dangers of stubbing my toe again. The idea that I might get hungry one day doesn't take away my ability to enjoy a meal. The sadness of losing someone I care about doesn't take away the joy of spending time with them before. Life isn't miserable unless you are depressed and focused on your misery...which I'm NOT.
KingHeathen 1 year ago
@KingHeathen I'm sorry but you don't get. Do you really think the 75 years or so that you live on this rock is all there is? You better give some thought to the stuff you're shoveling. You are letting satan control you. God gave us free will and a very simple choice to make with it. If I believe in Jesus and I'm wrong, I haven't lost anything. If you don't believe and you're wrong..., well..., that is a VERY stupid gamble. That's like gambling money for a chance to win some dirt.
mickey42743 1 year ago
@mickey42743 YES! This is IT! You don't exist...your parents have sex and then you do exist...later you die and you don't exist again. There is no Satan, there is no Hell, and there is no god.
PS...watch "For the last time: Pascal's Wager"
In short...if you are wrong and Islam is right, you are still screwed.
KingHeathen 1 year ago
@KingHeathen Not a problem. Islam is not right! God makes it very clear that there is only ONE way and that's Jesus Christ. I did exist before my parents had sex because Jesus said that before I was formed in the womb, He knew me. You can't know someone that doesn't exist. Again, you are putting your trust in humans. Humans are very flawed creatures. Trust the one that created the humans.
mickey42743 1 year ago
@mickey42743 Allah makes it very clear that there is only ONE way and that's Islam.
There is no evidence for your god...end of story. The only things we know about your claimed god comes from those same flawed humans. How are you not getting that?
KingHeathen 1 year ago
@mickey42743 humans are so flawed they wrote a book that you put all your hopes and beliefs in and live a life with a closed mind and no meaning to your own life but are living a life suggested to you buy someone who wrote a story 2000 years ago. i feel sorry for you and i hope one day you may do some thinking and considering all odds before you put faith in something that there is no evidence of.
zepfan74 1 year ago
@zepfan74 Christians with are close minded? Haha don't make me laugh... Its atheists with closed mind who can't even contemplate the possible chance of a spiritual realm or god. You know it takes a little thinking outside the box to become a christian, yet atheists will believe what ever science feeds them on a plate.
Atheists = People using there left side of brain.
Christians = People using there right side of brain.
I suggest you learn about the different sides of the human brain.

TDMprivateRyan 1 year ago
that author is contradicting himself sumtimes. i dont completely disagree with everything u say but i dun consider myself an atheist because i do believe in god and good and god is supposed to equal to good. we humans just overrate ourselves so badly, like we are supposed to know the answer to such a questions like why does oxygen keep us alive so we dont die. not how, why. or that we need to understand animals and shit like that. waste of time cuz the universe will go on with or without us.
smukase 1 year ago
The meaning of life is whatever you make of it. Whatever you think is the best way to exist, that is your meaning in life. You do not need an outside influence to define what your meaning is for you. I rather like the idea that I'M the one who decides what my life means, not a celestial dictator. Also, life is infinitely more meaningful if this is the only one you have and there's no eternal life.

Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
Your suggestion about the parents is wrong too. For example, my great grandparents were extremely racists. My grandmother was as well, but my grandfather wasn't as much. My parents are still fairly bigoted. Yet I completely reject the idea. "Morality" has changed over time. This is proof that your idea of how we learn right and wrong is utterly false.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
Some aspects may change but the core remains the same. Your racist grandparents didn't go around being racist to everyone. They still had their idea of what was right which probably came from their parents etc.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
you don't know them nor were you there....so YET AGAIN you fail to read minds or show any signs of clairvoyance...why do you keep trying pretend to know things that you don't know?
KingHeathen 2 years ago
I am taking an educated guess. For the third time; I CAN'T READ MINDS. From what you have told me about them i can make a guess on what they were like. Ever used the concept of 'x' before?
And if it is not too much please, question my mind reading ability again.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
compare two statements:
1-Perhaps they didn't go around being racist.
2-They didn't go around being racist.
One implies a guess and plausibility. The other implies knowledge of the events. Say what you mean. Mean what you say.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
So you are saying they were racists but they didn't go around being racist? Is that what you mean?
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
no...I'm saying that #1 suggests that you are taking a guess. #2 states that you KNOW.
YOU use statements like #2 when you claim to mean #1. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. I can't make it any simpler.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
First of all, Errosion, if you went around knifing people; I'd say you would only get about a dozen or so before you got caught. Don't get me wrong but I doubt even the best knife murderers being able to kill 300.
Second, if that is really how you would feel (knife rampage) if you found out there was no god. Then go right ahead. Society would benefit by your passing. And anyone else for that matter. Your threats of violence change NOTHING. Your arguments are arbitrary and pointless. Goodbye.
XxVizzinixX 2 years ago
"if that is really how you would feel (knife rampage) if you found out there was no god." Why limit myself to knifing when there's raping, shooting, gangbashing, torturing and blowing up bombs in people's cars. Since i'm an atheist there's no need for morals. If i rape a five year old girl who cares, i won't. Self consiousness according to atheists is man made. You atheists have it good...
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
We care you fool, all you are doing here is showing us that the only reason you don't kill people is because of your religion, quite frankly that is disgusting.
I'm an atheist/anti-theist and I don't go around killing people or anything you suggested nor do the majority of other atheist, so that makes me a better person than you.
you have a bad outlook on the human race, you should have more respect for your fellow humans and yourself for that matter.
tnuctnuc1 2 years ago
"quite frankly that is disgusting" Call it what you want. An atheist who doesn't thinks like this is ignorant.
"so that makes me a better person than you." Who's to say who is better than who? What is a good person and what basis do you answer that on?
"you should have more respect for your fellow humans" I'm not saying i do act like this. I have legitimate reason(s) for not acting like this, atheists don't.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
Our parents and our society instil us with our morals, if you were to ask people from all around the world what the morals are, you would get many different answers, it is arrogant to think that your moral laws are the best or are the only morals one can have.
We see our moral nature in other animals especially primates, many animals exhibit altruistic behaviour, to say that it can only come from belief in a god, belittles its meaning.
Just another "we are holier than thou" attempt by theists.
tnuctnuc1 2 years ago
Where did morals originate?
"it is arrogant to think that your moral laws are the best" We don't have to make it a competition over who has the best morals!
"We see our moral nature in other animals" Instinct drives animals.
"Just another "we are holier than thou" attempt by theists." What do you mean by 'holier'? Because if it means 'better' i am no 'better' than you.

PHvlogger 2 years ago
"I can prove God (or the 1 in the bible at least) doesn't exist." Agnostic?
"He thought......called it a whale" Where does it say that in the Bible?
"He also said 2 stone disobedient children not kind either " 'Stone' in this metaphor means punish.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
No I'm not agnostic, I was proving the God of the bible wrong because the argument wouldn't have been the same for a Hindu God.
"Where does it say that in the Bible?" By Luke I ment Mathew, and right here.
Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (continued)

"Called the whale that ate Jonna a great fish then Luke called it a whale." So you are getting at the contradiction right?
"then why does it include the words TO DEATH?" TO DEATH - Death is pretty severe so it is a metaphor for severe. Stone to death - Severely punish.

there is a sick dark humor in your comment that didn't go unappreciated...but responding to your question:
There are better ways to deal with a child other than (1) let him do what he wants or (2) kill him. If your parenting skills are so poor that those are the only two options that you can think of, then you shouldn't have children. I'll send DFACS to your home right away.

Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
"THE meaning of life is to try and live your life the way God intended it to be lived."
That's YOUR opinion and others disagree. Your position completely loses all credibility considering that you can't even prove your god actually exists. So you could be living your life for a fictitious character.
KingHeathen 2 years ago

Nah, it's just making new life.
xIntoThePitx 2 years ago
Just because 500 people have 500 hundred meanings to life doesn't mean any of them have the real reason to our existence. Whatever made us surely had a purpose for our existence. Denying that would imply 'things happen for no reason'. Or that we have always been. However, both arbitary and to be quite honest, wrong.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
I'm starting to wonder if you even watch my videos all the way through...I cover this thoroughly and you still come back with, "...doesn't mean any of them have THE REAL reason to our existence."
THE reason? Why would their be only one? Why couldn't there be MANY reasons? Why can't we make our own reason?
Next, "Whatever made us surely had a purpose for our existence" assumes that a "whatever" made us. I contend that evolution happened, no "whatever" to require a purpose out of us.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
There is only one real reason. If you made your own reason, yes there is a chance that it was right coincidently, but chances are it is wrong.
For example, if i open a door, one could conclude that i opened the door. OR they could say that the door opened on its own accord. What i'm saying is you can't say both things, its either one or the other.
If nothing made us then the only logical sollution to that is that we have always existed.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
"There is only one real reason" - says who?
"If nothing made us then the only logical sollution to that is that we have always existed." - there is nothing logical to that conclusion. If nothing made us, abiogenesis and evolution work just fine. Not to mention the deist concept of "god".

Says me. Two reasons would contradict each other.
"abiogenesis and evolution work just fine." that is assuming that both the concepts are correct and surely you are not going to argue for deism.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
And "says me"....you're wrong. A van's purpose is to transport people. A truck's purpose is to transport cargo. In the "species" of cars, why would they all need to have one single purpose? Even WITH a creator, it's illogical. Did Jesus have the same purpose as the rest of us? Did Noah? Did Moses? Life is diverse, a single uniform "meaning of life" is illogical.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
While yes, people live for a number of different reasons, it is all for one goal really. You can not compare/provide analogies with automobiles and humans, automobiles don't have souls. Noah, Moses and everyone else had a different purpose in THAT life but, in terms of the big picture they had the same goal, to be with our father in heaven.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
People don't have souls either...but that's a whole other argument...
Now, I want you to notice what you did here. You acknowledge that Moses, Noah, etc had purpose in THAT life...then you arbitrarily add an additional reason after their death. The question here is "what is the meaning of life"....not the afterlife. So without the existence of a god (hypothetically if you wish), there still IS "meaning" to THIS life...as you just confirmed.
I think this is another place we can agree.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
"The question here is "what is the meaning of life"....not the afterlife." Whoever said we get one life on this earth? I'm not talking about the afterlife (that's a whole other argument). I'll be unambiguous, I believe in reincarnation. Since you are an atheist (correct me if i'm wrong) would naturally not agree to that i assume.
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
at one point I thought reincarnation made sense...it certain makes more sense than the "Heaven/Hell" idea...but eventually, no...it failed to stand up to the scrutiny. I have a video where I talk about that...but I don't remember which one it is.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
I believe in heaven but not hell (hell is a joke). "it failed to stand up to the scrutiny" there are some strong stories to back it up (Gwen Mcdonald's)
Do you have any idea what the reincarnation video is titled?
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
no...I don't remember. It wasn't what the video was "about"...I just mention it in passing. I want to say it's in my "Deist to Agnostic" video...but that doesn't seem right.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
"but that doesn't seem right." Where would it seem right to argue about the topic then? How about here if there's no (right) video of yours in relation to the topic?
Errosion5bucks 2 years ago
no...I meant that it doesn't seem right that I put it in that video which makes me think I said it somewhere else....but the topic would have fit into it...just some reason it doesn't seem like that's the video I did it on.
One way to find out would be to watch it and see...I can't use my speakers right now, or I would.
KingHeathen 2 years ago
Sorry for the misinterpretation.

You still don't get it, do you?

i just discovered that there MUST be a meaning to life just by thinking what would happen if there was NO meaning to life. what do trees do? provide oxygen is the scienific aswer..what does a table do? serve us by enabaling us to plave things on it...really everything here has a job or purpose to forfill, then why not us? if we truly are so clever and the greatest species on this planet as many say then is it not likely that we have a purpose? the change that of all things (read part 2)

hi i really enjoy watching all your v ideos youre my fav so far. my biggest problem is i dont know what to believe. i dont believe we were created from dust and a rib that dunb. i believe more in evolution i believe we could have evolved overtime. at the same time i do believe that everything is so perfect why couldn't gods devine plan be that we evolve over time. i think bout how darwins theory was debunked becuz he couldnt explain how the eye ball could evolve over time its to complex help!
vannilsa5050 2 years ago
vannilsa...sorry, but the evolution of the eye HAS been proven.

I submitted that the meaning of life was to leave a positive impact on the world.

you can find a single meaning in life from moral philosophy even without religion. Religion doesn't add anything in terms of meaning :P

We're all the same in that we all have a different take on things.
controllerbrain 2 years ago
The Meaning of Life.... it is the manifestation of God's Holy Word. God's word describes every path a heart may follow along with each conciquence. That's it. The PURPOSE is to the Glory of the Creator
reluctantprophet7 2 years ago
He's saying there are many different activities, which is true, but the Christians believe it all has one purpose - which is to glorify God. The activities by themselves have no "meaning" or purpose. He has not answered the question of meaning or purpose at all!

Then again - Master Jesus had to deal with some very SUPERSTITIOUS PEOPLE!
This is not to say, I believe things in the Bible actually happened. Be that as it may, it does contain some interesting elements.
OutrLiimitz 2 years ago
After even exploring the Bible, I found that GOD is not always the same thing.
In Genesis, GOD is stomping around on earth in the garden of eden. Later, he flips out when men begin construction of a tower.
By the Gospels, GOD is described as something very similar to THE FORCE that Master Yoda describes to Luke Skywalker in, The Empire Strikes Back.
Master Jesus told everyone to use - THE FAITH - that will move mountains. He never once said, GOD would do anything outside of FORGIVING.
OutrLiimitz 2 years ago
I personally like the ideas of KARMA and REINCARNATION.
After exploring these topics, I found that once upon a time they were EARLY CHRISTIAN VALUES. What happened?
Christianity today is not the same Christianity that began a few 1000-yrs ago. So, how can Christians (today) think they are so accurate?
OutrLiimitz 2 years ago
Determining meaning for oneself is a concept that atheists seem to have a much simpler time understanding than Christians because of the mental framework that has been constructed during the indoctrination period that they are unable to let go of.
The meaning of things, as I understand it, is related to a thing's purpose. We make use of every element that is at our disposal, even the sun, is useful to us, so we assign it meaning.
freetaught 2 years ago
If a Christian is not a tool of God and doesn't carry out a prescribed purpose, then the Christian loses his/her sense of meaning.
Its actually quite sad, that many theists are unable to conceieve that life can be enjoyable unless it is infinite and part of a God's master plan!
freetaught 2 years ago
It's a film and song by Monty Python. I thought everyone knew that.
"Is life just a game where we make up the rules,
While we're searching for something to say,
Or are we just simply spiraling coils
Of self-replicating DNA. (Nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay)"

Is god alive? If he is... Does his life have a meaning as well? If it doesnt... couldnt we say the same about our life too? If he is not alive... why worship him?
guitarmaestro078 2 years ago
Hm, question is, why wouldn't you believe there is an afterlife, you claim to be alive now and you claim to have the intelligence to make that claim/opinion/statement, if you're alive now then why can't there be a life after this one in a different form of existence?
Take that a step further, if we had a beginning, why not a creator?

A well thought out take on the meaning of life. Well done.
warren52nz 2 years ago
The meaning of life is potential. Give meaning to your life. Never let anybody tell you what your life means.
In my life, I find that I am most fulfilled by being kind to those I meet, and helping people to cope with their lives and find their own meanings. That's why I'm studying psychology and counseling. Though I am not a follower of any of the Abrahamic religions, I find my personal philosophy very much embody in Micah 6:8 (I'm low on space, so look it up if you're interested).

I'll stick to my higher being idea, but that's not why I have morals and help people.
justinhardt1 3 years ago
Because if they didn't then they wouldn't exist.
They'd be dead right?
Obviously they need it to survive.
Think about it.
PtH888999 2 years ago
Big bang and abiogenesis are different things. No wonder you theists are still in the dark. You cant tell the difference. Its like the difference between popcorn and butter. but we all know they go great together. You should really learn something before making comments like that. Like read somthing other then the bible.

That's the "shut up and eat it" philosophy...(to say being here is meaning enough).

It seems vacuous and unstable to me.

did you miss the part of "what if they all had the same idea of how to glorify god?"
KingHeathen 3 years ago
I have to wonder about those working in charity who say their purpose is to glorify god. That suggests they don't care about the people they're helping, they don't care about the problems in the world, they don't care if people suffer or not, they're just doing it to glorify god, supposedly to please god, but only doing it FOR their god, and not for people.
technologysucks 3 years ago
"I have to wonder about those working in charity who say their purpose is to glorify god. "
I agree completely with your entire comment.
Also, whatever you might think of Bill Gates and Microsoft (and I'm not a fan of either), I DO give the guy props for 2 things:
1) He's an "Unbeliever" (Agnostic Atheist or Deist, I'm not sure)...
2) He operates the largest transparently-operated charitable foundation in America...
I'm willing to bet he doesn't do it to glorify a Deity.
FSAthe1st 3 years ago
Also, why would an infinite being want "glory" and "praise" anyway? Why would he care if we approved of him?
ChuckyJesus666 3 years ago
Exactly.
If such a being were so omni-super;
A) We'd be ameobas to it, Who cares about what ameobas think
B) Why would it create such inferior beings and not attempt to make mere-equals? What worth is the the praise of ameobas?
C) There's only a select # of reasons why 1 WANTS to be glorified. None of 'em are very noble, humble or of perfect character
Final thought: I once had a dog who was very propitiative. It was f'ing annoying. I want to be treated like a friend, not a masterlord
technologysucks 3 years ago
Well said. We praise kids and dogs; an infinite being would neither need nor want this.

I find it amusing how meany theists need to be told by someone else what the meaning of life is, or what moral code to follow, and how to think otherwise they're totally lost. It is like children looking to a parent to tell them how and what they're supposed to think on various subjects.
"Whats the meaning of life?"
"My life? Sports"
"So . . . so I'm supposed to just play sports?
"No, no, you pick what YOU want in life"
"But . . . but what that's wrong! I'm LOST!"
It's insecurity

Thing is, if the meaning of life were so damn important, like people claim it to be, it would be instinctive, not some obscure thing humanity takes hundreds of years to discover. The ecological purpose of bees is pollination, which they automatically do, being bees. The purpose of a clock is to tell time, which it does automatically the moment it is a finished, working clock. If the meaning of life is both objective and important, it is something we automatically do and have done for 100s of yrs
technologysucks 3 years ago
In my opinion, the meaning of life is to experience. Everything that occurs, is an experience, whether it's helping someone, going sky-diving, worshipping an invisible sky-daddy, etc. It's all an experience and life to me would be meaningless if one can't experience anything.
