Ahh your mercury is split.. i think its from the laser vaporizing the alcohol in the thermometer then the bubbles settle up higher creating the split mercury. usually they cant be fixed unless you can decrease the temperature super low. In my lab we just dip them into liquid nitrogen to fix them. :)
I already fixed it by raising the temp with a much larger spot. Once it gets all the way to the top it rejoins. The sudden spike and successive drop causes the splits and orphan droplets to happen.

It's actually alcohol based not mercury. ;)
