  • seriously words would fail to describe the epicness of this performance. this is what music is all about in my book

  • Is country singer Charley Pride on the drums!!!

  • out of this world...

  • I would give my life to play in Orange Balloon.

  • The Cure en estado puro, brutal!

  • kochanie1

  • Mais qu'IL EST BEAU !!!!!!!!

  • Une autre dimension... la mienne.... The Cure : unique.... Robert Smith : unique....

  • Personally I don't really dig the make-up and lipstick, but their music is real and that's all that really matters.

  • kocham pornography1 edi1

  • PIRKNE PIEKNE! EDI POLEN!

  • h y p n o t i c s u b l i m e. so 1980's

  • For me, this is the real album of "The Cure".

they are unic in the world in 2004 we lose a great band.

  • I must fight this sickness... Find a cure...

Bit of a legend, great song, great LP. Thanks!

  • this is the top era. greatest band ever. pantera is # 2

  • @bosoxyaz8 theres no such thing as a greatest band ever. esspecially if your gonna include pantera who suck and shouldnt even be mentioned in relation to the cure.

i know, ive been a metalhead more than anything else

  • @anaemiabag ha ha your funny. well i have about 10 bands that trade off by day which is my # 1. fact is pantera is...was one of the greatest bands in history. so you are wrong. peace.

  • @bosoxyaz8 oh and pantera fucking sucks ass.

  • @moravec481 I dont respect you.

  • i´ve heard everything in the last 20 years, thousands of music, bands, albums, songs... but nothing like Pornography. this album is unique, and this track is hypnotic...

  • soooo daaaaarrrrrkkkkk soooooo 1980's..... sooooo UK. i lov it

  • that was rad ..

  • "I'm gonna fight this sickness... Find a cure..." :-)

  • Brilliant !!!!

  • i qwanna say this LAURENCE SIMON AND ROBERT THATS THE BEST THATS THE PRIME THE BEST THE CREAM OF THE BAND THE CURE CHECKOUT PORNOGRAPHY ,FAITH,SEVENTEEN SECONDS I recommend these albums u wont be disapointed

  • The bassist is definitely Norman Fisher-Jones.

  • Yeah, poor Joe.

Class tune, from their best album!

  • Well... bass player here. guys, is not Phil... it's the other half from the Butler bros (Psychedelic Furs)... coz by that time Phil had already run off to produce Seven and The Ragged Tiger in Australia or someplace...

And yep! They're all as high as it gets!

  • what a drummer !

  • ...GREAT LINEUP!!!...thank God for Phil....Simon should've stayed away...damn Phil for running after Duran

    Duran...Go Andy....Go Porl....Go Lol....brilliant....

  • Yeah, one of the best The Cure songs. And this TV performance is really like live.

  • What an incredibly powerful song. Definitely underrated in my opinion. And is it just me or are they all high off their asses? The replacement bass player, can't remember his name, looks like hes had a bit too much xD

  • @CorrosiveAgent

Bass player of this period is Phil Thornalley.

  • Phil Thornalley god damn it ^^

  • i just got done trashing a video someone posted from the "trilogy" DVD. this, on the other hand, is absolutely incredible. i am not worthy to describe it. what i wouldn't give to take a time machine back to this gig.

  • nice

  • i wish the guitar at the beginning was in the studio version

  • If you get the track off the cd and reverse it (say in audacity which you can download for free), near the end (which is the beginning of the track forwards) you can hear something, I can't remember what off the top of my head, something from the radio (radio 4?).

  • That is some of the most psychedelically awesome freaky guitar playing i've ever seen

  • THE CURE!!! KOCHAM!!!

  • Robert smith looks like something out of hellraiser

  • my favorite cure song. although i hate the studio version because theres no cool guitar in the intro, and the intro is way too long.....but still amazing song

  • Man thats trippy !

  • This song is amazing, without question. And its not nearly the only amazing The Cure song either. Very special group.

  • I cannot stop listening to this song, its all so atmospheric I'm completely absorbed...........

  • i love this song too bad simon couldnt get along with robert to play this show

  • this is the last song on pornography the album - and it's called pornography

  • Comment removed

  • thornaley - anderson works better than gallup - cooper. ideal duo is of course gallup-williams. anyway cure are the best

  • I like all those songs the most back in that time it was some dark @gray sounding stuff back then.I was around before goth emo people,,.back then the cure was just weird,,you now like the doors in the 60s.They just ahead of them selves by 30 years or so,,,ha ha lol.

  • this performance is definitely at the Cure's prime.

  • simon had to leave the band after the worst gig ever in 1983, when he punched robert in the face... any way, that was the context back then, and yes, phil did ok, but could not get the same energy transmitted...

  • I agree with you Simon is brilliant and a more suited bassist for the cure---but the Phil years were really awesome---

  • The Cure was awesome at that time.

    too bad Simon wasn't there.

  • The bassist Phil Thornally was the producer for the album Pornography & played the double bass in lovecats..so he certainly added something to the cure...

  • THE CURE jusqu'à la mort...! trop sick..!

  • Énorme !

  • Was their alternate lyrics or did he just change it on the fly?

  • This is the best version of Pornography in my opinion. It's just perfect. Love the drums especially.

  • wow, this kinda surprises me. plus, the drums are excellent.

  • Andy Anderson really nice on the drums

  • he's the best cure drummer ever.

  • Indeed, he played for the Top Album, and is consider by some as the best cure drummer, although I put him in 2nd place after Boris ;)

  • he does his job well..lol shut up

  • have a bit of that then. *****

  • Hahaha ... das gute alte Nachtwerk!

  • ...Everytime..... I want to just rip The Empire Down!

  • Pure uncompromising magnificence. Pornography is a steamroller. An anger that crushes you into the ground then puts the boot in afterwards. Magnificent!!

  • Fucking great, with the best The Cure drums ever!

  • Ahhehhhh i LOVEE IT God this performance is BONECHILLING GOD i love it rock ON ROBERT IN the 80S!LOO AT ROBERT TEAR IS UP ON THE GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • english please

  • sena paroleeee

  • yeah.........

  • I didn't even exist when this happened ._.) and that depresses me

  • This makes me feel old! Fantastic live version!

  • If you love The Cure check out The Glass Plastiks. They both Rock!

  • This version is absolutely incredible. I think I even prefer the drums in this version to the studio version. Also, Robert seems so... human to me from 1:00 to 1:20.

  • fantastic version. One of the best I 've heard - among the rare live versions I know.

  • Never heard of The Cure, but this shit is good.

  • :-) Glad you like it, but how can you possibly never have heard of The Cure? :-)

  • He's a brilliant drummer

  • Any tips on how to get my hair like that? :O

  • You have to backcomb and tease your hair. Make sure that you use a really strong hairspray and/or a strong gel! But keep in mind that everyones' hair is different, so I don't know if it'll work for you.. hope it does anyway!!

    good luck.

  • I must admit that I'm afraid of the intro to this song. The strange voices scares me.

  • This shit is so fucking great!!!

It's much better than the album version...

I simply love the classic songs of The Cure.

  • Robert Looks Awesome..

  • I think this album was his transition into existentialism. A dark road for a brilliant poet..

  • The deepest album they put out. A must have. Totally dark. Love it..

  • This is 1984-01-30 Munchen Video ;)

  • An album everyone should have -awesome.

  • the drumming on this sounds similar to Atrocity Exhibition by Joy Division

  • "In a room as he kills for a prize". It is similar drumming, but the cool thing about the drums on the studio versoin is that they almost sound backwards.

Terminando la canción Robert Smith dice: "I must fight this sickness" (Voy a combatir esta enfermedad), lo mismo digo yo.

  • EXACTO

lo mismo paso por mi mente

    pq pornography...

  • I love this song!! The starting is great, specially the drums

  • compare this with the 'trilogy' concert version..... then tell me you dont miss the old Cure!!!!

  • It´s impossible to happen, they grew old, imagine you the same man for 15 years, they are human too, just like you.

  • Unfortunately...

  • actually the bass in the new version is much darker in my opinion but robert just much feeling here...

  • Love Smith's guitar playing at the beginning of the song - very cool. Can someone tell me what makes his guitar playing look & sound so unique?

  • Arround 1984 Robert Smith used the following pedals (All BOSS)

    GE-7 Equalizer, Chorus CE-3, Overdrive OD-1, Flanger BF-2 & Boss Delay.

  • Oh my god. Those boots are perfect!! ah! I want them...this was the best hair, too, i think. Robert has some of the most brilliant fashion sense i've ever seen.

*blush* oh- yeah, and I like the song, too :)

I agree that it is Phil playing bass, but I disagree about Simon's talent level...sure, he's cute and people appreciate it, but he's also very good!

  • Simon's totally talented - i was just stirring :P

  • *nod* my favourite line-up as well! (as much as i miss simon purely for his playful trademark bass pose entertainment value! -- anyone who thinks gallup is actually worth any more than sid vicious was to the sex pistols is lying!!). -- and i totally agree, this era *IS* diabollically brilliant! and that orange balloon **OWNS** that plastic bag that floats around in American Beauty :P :D

  • srry sr but IMHO simon is not to the cure as sid to the pistols he can actually play and there is no need to unplug his bass

he is not great technically but has ALOT of crative value, not everyone can come up with a bassline like his

He is a bigger part of the cure than any other member except for smith

smith's voice and lyrics+simon on bass= the cure sound

gallup was a member when pornography was recorded and cant imagine any song without gallups bass except for the ones he didnt did

  • that soooooo is Phil on the bass. he was in the cure's 'lovecats' and 'the caterpilar' vids too, take a look - it's definately him. phil also wrote natalie imbruglia's 'torn' lyrics (or so i've heard), which sound like they could almost be stollen from robert - the cure days must have really rubbed off on him lol.

  • those drums are killer.

jesus robert looks so good in leather

  • At first it sounded a bit like Just Like Heaven!!! btw it's an awesome song!

  • extremely cool!

  • gotta love pornography.

the song, the album! i love his hair too! i wish i was around to see the greatest band of all time develop.

  • I Wish I was there!!! Pity I was just a Baby

  • :(((((((((((((

  • Omg this is dark. Weirdly soothing though. Love every minute of it. Smith can be so intense. Genius.

  • who knows what type of fender that is? it doesn't look like a tele or a strat. kinda wish he would have name-dropped the band at the end there 'i must fight this sickness, find a cure'...............

  • That´s a Fender Jaguar. I have one. Many use it. Johnny Marr is currently using a 63 Jaguar with Modest Mouse, Richard Oakes from Suede used it almost all the time outside the Gibson ES 335. Kobain used it too, on the Heart Shaped Box vid I believe. Great guitar.

  • I was thinking that is a Fender Jazzmaster.

  • Yeah, I forgot about that one. The Jaguar has the toggle switches on the pickguard while the Jazzmaster doesn't and it has white knobs. They look so similar it's easy to confuse the two. You got it.

  • cause it's jazzmaster but a little modified.

  • the cure at their best. P0rnography best cd they did, 2nd Disintegration. infact 83/84, siouxsie cocteau twins and cure, best music of all time

  • I'm miss that drummer!!!

  • he was very good, I liked Boris Willians too.

by the way, this era was almost diabolic!!!

  • the best song of Cure

  • erwin... I cannot agree with you... perhaps you dont know the cure as well... pornography album was recorded in Robert's most conflicted times... in my point of view is the BEST album that the Cure has recorded EVER...

  • the pornography album is is scary

  • I love this song... It´s a little bit dark :)

  • my capture for COF is like a Virus ;b

  • an amazing track by an amazing band...so much talent its unbelievable. songs like this r just 2 much 4 ths world...thats why the cure take u 2 another 1

  • well, you should hear some more Cure before saying that... X[

  • the cure's not for everyone :) pornography is some heavy hardcore stuff

  • kill yourself cunt

  • I agree hifreaks5....those 3 would have made me piss my pants to see them together. Its interesting to listen to Pornography played in Berlin in 2002 and compare it to this. They both rock but I really like the original drummer's sound in this version.

  • Andy Anderson the drummer on this live version is not the drummer on the LP version. The Cure was only a 3 piece while recording "Pornography" and Lol Tolhurst (playing keyboards here) played the drums on Pornography.

  • This song is fucking amazing, but I can't listen to it at night, with the lights off. It creeps me out.

Yeah, I wish I was born 20 years earlier too. In England.

  • to be honest, the cure was from england yes, but they were never among the biggest bands in england, their albums mostly sold out across europe and most of america

  • This was before I was even born, haha. Loving the hair!

  • hifreaks5

the only thing that changed from the 80's till now is his physical appearencce

well and some new band members lol

  • pornography and munchen together, i love this

  • reading this makes me smile, the music does bring back some awful sceary amazing moments, what happened? Who knows! Back then I had the same hair as Robert, now I'm a buddhist and I have no hair! Time passes and forever, let's enjoy it again! Thanks for the music.

  • wish i was born about 20 years earlier..

  • Hey! That is EXACTLY how i feel at the moment...

  • that would be so awesome..we could have seen the cure, the smiths, joy division..well,i´ve seen the cure in 2004 but that was awful compared to how they used to be in the 80´s.

  • Pornography is a goth album

  • I agree AkZicci...

  • q buen video eh

  • they threw him out for smellin up the tour van, bananas was the smell if im not mistaken

  • XD WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? xD!!

  • [ i think he's playing the synth] the dude playing the synth looks like maretin gore 4rm depeche mode[ @ :46 wearing the cross!]

  • it isn't the same without simon

  • Reminds me of crazy, insane times. I saw them between 81-83 several times, this song still breathes the athmosphere of that time...schoolmates on heroin, doom all over, but also new music, ways of living, exploring as a 14 year old does. Thank you for uploading!!

  • Jeez, ur words has stricken me;

    sometimes I even doubt I lived those times for real... so strange;

This cannot be the same world; what has happened?
