Look, im 13 and in my school, maybe like 7 PEOPLE MAX HAVE HEARD OF METALLICA/ LISTEN TO GOOD MUSIC. ROCK ON AND FUCK U IF YOU SUPPORT RAP OVER THIS! ~\m/ METALLICA ALL DAY!!! \m/~
@mtndewman17 - The meaning is laid out pretty clearly if one actually pays attention to the lyrics. Though, it's such a hard banging song, that the lyrics may get overshadowed a little bit. LOL
@killeraevis51 PREACH IT BROTHA, im fucking 14 and i LOVEEEE load, re load, aww hell who am i kidding? I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ALLLLLL THE ALBUMS!
@dapunk78 14 years old and loves Metallica smart kid!!! at least there is one 14 year old that has not sucked up to the crap they call music today. you truly kick ass man thank you for having good taste in music ROCK ON!
@killeraevis51 So metalheads in your world are people who never listen to anything but 80s metal, and know every song in that category? Doesn't sound that appealing. I love metallica, but there are dozens if not hundreds of good bands that aren't metal out there.
This song is not attacking religion,it is a comment on those who prey on peoples beliefs and profit from them ,and the hypocrisy, Jimmy Swaggart for instance.Jame's mother and father were both Christian Scientists.A sect that does not believe in medicine. His mother died when he was just 16 from cancer as a result of not seeking medical attention. He watched her die a slow ,miserable death, which caused him considerable grief, frustration and anger.
This song is so great! I love it, I hate Christianity and whenever I turn this song on that is all I can think of, how Christians lie and destroy everything. LOL
@zjfox43 Don't blame religion, but people's stupidity and close mindedness. Same behaviours can be observed in every aspect of everyday life which divides uneducated morons into groups. Although it is pretty irritating that believers expect to be respected, but don't respect those who don't believe.
Wow, James is a seer metal song writer back then.I wish he could wrote the new song as good as this album, there are so many things that are not right in this world, now.
haha no. actually this song was written by james hetfield as a response to his mother's beliefs which ultimately brought to her own death due to cancer. she refused to take medication as she was believing in a sect of christianity which rejects science and anything to do with it. I don't think Metallica is anti-religion. If not wrong James is a Catholic and some of the members are Christians.
@sydbarrett17 This song almost reminds me of my mother who is a BIG on yahweh (Jewish Religion) I had to deal with it everyday! I'm so glad i moved out.
@vader33300 Actually, this song is about the corruption of church and religion. The song title "Leper Messiah" basically means worshiping a false entity, or the truth of religion. This song is really anti religious... But, the line "send me money, send me green, heaven you will meet." is saying that the churches are corrupting you to give them they're fill of money and still feel good about themselves knowing your blissfully unaware.
@RGHTre The song is talking about Leprosy, hince the name Leper Messiah, from the bible times. Back then they didnt know much about diseases so they called it Leprosy, which was a thought as a disease that was nasty and horrible and could be contagous. It also talks about paying your way into heaven by paying the church.
@vader33300 it also talks of weak minds influenced by white light religious groups...spineless from the start... witchery, weakening, sees the sheep are gathering. set the trap, hypnotize, now you follow. go blissfully to your slaughter brought on by heavenly pipe dreams....LIE LIE LIE LIE!!!!!!!
does it even fucking matter what the songs mean??? Fucking hell, metallica made this legendary album for us to headbang wildly and crank to 11 and switch the button to OVERDRIVE, not to find some message in the music. just enjoy the music
A higher power is trying to communicate to us threw his divine intervention, hinting you truth. We are all puppets seeking truth. The only undeniable truth in this song is, if you don't listen to your heart as they pour theirs, you would have missed the point that god is one who creates as I love their music I hear truth I feel alive I'm free but to contemplate the lyrics would make me a puppet ! With no strings attached, I find meaning because I know it to be the only truth. G.W.P.
@jesssssssssica the master of puppets isnt drugs nummy, its some one that pulls your strings to make one dance the dance. how and why the strings are pulled is another topic.
@cybillify "chop your breakfast on a mirror" drugs, cocaine in this case, are the ones pulling your strings making you dance the dance. come on man, i know its hard to pay attention to the lyrics with the most bad ass guitar playing ever, but....
@Leadtheband Its actually about the tv evangelist fuckers. People like Jim and Tammy Vaker, who just "make a contribution and get the better seat." Just search leper messiah live 1987, James says so in the introduction

Every "metalhead" in my school claims to be a Metallica fan, but, heres the truth:
-they only know "One", "Enter Sandman", and "Fade to Black"
-they don't know what they're talking about
-they don't know the band members or discography
-they all listen to metalcore, nu metal, or screamo
-they think they know more about Metallica than the actual fans
-THEY'RE ALL POSERS
This isn't just for Metallica, it's for all good 80's bands... nowadays they all listen to crappy 2000's bands.
