  • This is by far the most amazing sounding jeep ive heard. Ok i have a 99 4.0, and i want it to sound like this. You spoke of a cam on earlier comments, can you tell me more about this? THanks, and thanks for putting this amazing sound into my life.

  • sounds great

  • The cam is a COMP Cam model. I forget the exact lift and duration, but it was in their catalog as a 4x4 Xtreme. I called and asked for a lopey cam that would still be streetable and move the power curve lower in the RPM range.

  • could this be done to a 2.8L??

  • Highly doubtful. Different architecture in the heads and exhaust designs. You may be better off finding a 4.0l in a boneyard for a few hundred bucks and swapping her over. I did have, for a short while a 2.8l Cherokee...and it was most defintely not worth the trouble of keeping it running. I had the same expirience with an S10 with the same motor, and my friends GMC S15.

  • That Amc inline Sounds great, so... it's bored over to be a 282?, what kind of cam I've gotta to make mine sound like that...

  • how did you do that it sounds like a v8 nice job

  • if you really want your jeep to sound like that you can just cut the vacuum hose that goes to the map sensor. I did that on accident and it sounded like that but blew out black smoke. I don't think he did that tho:)

  • i did that on my ranger it sounds badass

  • Wow I wish my Jeep sounded that great...

  • You have got to put out more videos of that jeep, that sounds awsome.

  • That Sounds Awsome

  • sounds nice! i have an 84 cj7. i know the motor is bored out but how would i get that sound? would just havin straight pipe give it the rumble?

  • i have an 84 cj7 with the 258, wgat did u do to get that sound with a 4.2! sounds awesome.

  • the old inline sixes were notorious for their monstrous amounts of torque. It's a shame Chrysler quit using the Inline 6 engines in the Jeeps. the last jeep to be sold with one was the Wrangler. Now they use that POS 3.7L

  • Ahhh , the AMC 258. I had a buddy that had one really worked over, sounded like a big block at idle untill you rompped on it!

  • Damm thats a sweet sound man nice!

  • I had a 1979 Jeep J10 with the 258ci straight 6 through the 1980s that I had to junk out due to a large tree falling on it during a tornado. Engine mods done were an Offenshauser Intake with a Holley 4bbl carb. Split headers with 3 tubes into each set so was dual exhaust running into Cherry Bomb glass packs on the street. Under heavy acceleration sounded more like a P-51 Mustang WWII Fighter Plane racing down a runway more than anything else.. Fast.. Loud.. and Strong.

  • Nice 258. Any mods other than the dual exhaust?

FYI thats a Commanche, not to be confused with a J10. Commanches are mid size pickups, J10s were full size pickups.

  • J10 was smallest of the J trucks, the half ton, since shes got a Dana 60 out back and a 44 up front, and has heavier duty half ton leafs, she just gets called the J10...It's not the size of the truck, its the capability

  • Wow I didnt mean to ruffle any feathers. You actually have closer to J-20 running gear, so why call it a J-10? Any way you slice it, that thing is a commanche, not a J-10. J-10s were full size based on the wagoneer design, commanches were built off of the mid size cherokee design.

  • Wow that sounds beautiful. A straight six sounding almost like a V8. I didn't know you could put the 4.0L heads on the 4.2. I'm taking out my carbed 4.2 and dropping a fuel injected 4.0 HO.

  • Sorry, i thought you meant like what kind of vehicle, I, and the Jeep are in RI

  • Where would the motor be coming from?

  • Where abouts would this motor be coming from? You said it's running a little rich and anything else? Please message me with everything and about how much you would want for it.Thank You!

  • The Motor in her now is an old 4.2 straight 6 from an older jeep, running no cats, no mufflers, its been bored over to 4.6, running old ford 302 pistons. The head is off of a newer 94 Jeep Cherokee H.O. When I drop the 390 in it, I'm figuring something in the neighborhood of 200-250 for the long block, without the exhaust. The trans is probably gonna be with it. It's the original trans. A Torque-Flight would be going in with the 390.

  • let me know if you would ever want to sell the motor out of this...maybe $300?

  • could be possible...I'm lookin to drop an AMC 390 in her over the spring

  • i got a '89 comacnhe that has a 2 1/2 inch flowmaster system on it. sounds pretty nice. i want to get it supercharged though.

  • nice Jeep man! Do you have it runnin pretty rich?

  • Yea, rich...when i swapped the 4.0l HO head to it, i had to swap it to fuel injection, im used to Carb'd cars or computer flashes on the injected ones...so since i cant find a shop or a chip to flash mine...im kinda stuck with the ECU trying to make its own program with the bore and stroke

  • This is sweet,but a 4.6L is a 4.0L Strocked.How much power does it have?Is there anything on the pipes(cat muffler resonator?)Let me know

  • its a 4.2l straight with a 4.0l HO head on it, and bored over by F&H machine with Ford 302 pistons. And a custom cam and crank assembly, The exhaust is a split Y pipe with just a set of end pipes on it.
