  • Sold out stadium concerts as in football and baseball stadiums, those were concerts. Too bad ticket prices are so high this is not feasible today. You youngsters will never know what you missed.

  • more like olivia newton john in her workout videos

  • @uberfriponne I was thinking that, some Olivia Newton-John and just a sprinkle of Debbie Gibson...

  • I love that Styx has such good vocals that any member can be the lead singer of a song.

  • Ok you God Squad ass holes stop comparing art to your bullshit chuch shit. Nobody wants to hear it. If it offends you don't listen.

  • Went to all the shows in Los Angeles. Awesome.

  • 3 people missed the like button

  • reverse play? same as backward mentality=) music is expression..sounds like from hell or satan send because your thoughts and your mind is already in hell!! FYI, its just a preventive measure at that time for everybody to refrain from taking drugs together with rock music. Ironically, rock music is one of every nations revenue earner. what a mess!

  • pretty damn good, sounds just like the album

  • oh! i almost forgot, Styx is the river of fire that feeds hell, its in the King James version of the Holy Bible...

  • @imbueto Correct spelling is The River " Styxx "

  • @slickwing No, It is spelled "Styx", I agree with you though, Styx (band) is not satanic and I would be willing to bet that they are not named after the river Styx from the bible, but the the river Styx in Greek mythology. Achilles was bathed in it and held by his ankle making that his only weak point ultimately leading to his death, ( hence Achilles heel) But yeah that's my opinion anyway :D and by the way I am christian.

  • @TheDKing1718 Correct on the spelling, by the way I all so know Greek and Roman mythology. I am a very proud Christian, nice to hear from a fellow believer. Praise the Lord in everything you do.

  • man! listen to stairway to heaven in reverse on vinyl, with an old player when we had sound with manual reverse. i kid you not, when the song begins "and as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our soul" you can absoluty, clearly hear, "satan is my god, i love satan" i shit you not! i listened to it numerous times, ive let my friends hear it, and they freaked out! lol!!!

FWIW, i dont believe that you can sell your soul to the devil, it belongs to GOD.......

  • @imbueto You've been listening to too much Ronnie James Dio , my friend. You know ? " Beast from the East "

  • The devil ad nothing to do with this next song...the song title Snowblind!!!

  • I'm really suprised they even bothered to address the backwards masking allegations. Especially to thier audience during a concert- strange. Killer song! One of my faves, and BTW, I've heard the alleged "backwards message" . If that's what you are looking for and that's what you want your ears to hear, you are bound to find it sooner or later.

  • fuckin styx rocks.

  • Wow, they are so young. Good times then and now, I still love seeing Styx in concert. The best..

  • Look,,,, they play instruments and sing.... you dont see to much of that anymore... well at least not good.

  • oh man! i love this song!!

  • What eventually happened to John Curewlewski the man Tommy Shaw replaced?

  • @herbertkearse I looked online and it says that he left Styx in 1975 to spend more time with his family and have more creative control on his future endeavours...he died of a brain aneurysm in 1988....he was only 37 years old.

  • was you that have put on youtube 'too much time in my hands'? damn i want that video! youtube has removed it.

  • JY Young = TOTAL BAD ASS

  • I'm seeing Styx play on Aug. 5 at our County Fair. I'm so excited I"ve liked them since the late 70's. Grand Illusion was the first album I bought when I was 11 years old. I had such a crush on Tommy Shaw too. I thought he was so cute back then. LOL Anyway this show is gonna ROCK! Can't wait!!

  • OMG Tommy looks like such a baby here, but time goes on and he's only gotten BETTER in every way! Met him about 2 years ago and all I can say is WOW. He's incredibly talented....always knew that...and he's really nice...(I got to play his guitar!)...but guess what gals? He's still got those beautiful baby blues & they're still just as pretty to look at! LOL I love STYX...what's happened to music these days makes my stomach turn!

  • don't worry kids. your advantage is channels like youtube which never existed in our day. you can look back at the greats without having to rely on your failing memory. although i will never forget seeing randy rhoads or stevie ray live.....priceless,

  • @dmartinezguitarart Man I wish I was alive when good music like this was popular!

  • cocaine is good, no homo

  • Excellent....

  • i lived it all in the 80's what a time to be alive. period.

  • Even if they had satanic music on them, why is that a government affair?

  • James Young, is he the great Wiking God Oden?

  • Just thank god that there are recordings of these bands. this is a great band they really knew how to structure a song

  • 2 people who dislike this song have never been in a snowstorm!! :)

  • Cool song!

  • For those who have seen Styx now....you have seen NOTHING in comparison to their shows of the 1970's and 1980's....they ROCKED back then...Paridise Theatre was one of their best tours going. So was Pieces of Eight. Seeing them now is such a dissapointment. Tommy Shaw so high on whatever he is snorting. James Young is still good, but when you're missing Dennis DeYoung, you're missing the best part of the group. Sorry kids, you missed the best days of Styx.

  • Styx are one of those bands that stand the test of time. Todays music lacks that certain quality..... I can't put my hand on it... Oh yeah QUALITY!

  • is it me or does tommy shaw look like luke skywalker?

  • @uberfriponne it's just you.

  • @uberfriponne He always does

  • @uberfriponne Uber....I think it's def YOU that looks like Luke Skywalker, not Tommy Shaw. =}P

  • backward satanic messages on them...hahah...saw these guys in '90 without Tommy Shaw...not the same....

  • Why can't all bands be this good live. This band sings harmonies in tune. A rare thing, unfortunately.

  • @romeosyne And all the band members CAN SING !! Love it !!

  • STYX---"SNOWLBLIND 2010"

  • STYX III---"SNOWBLIND"

  • STYX---"SNOWBLIND"

  • Saw them 6 times in the late 70's early 80's. Great band!

  • STYX the best group of the 80's no doubt what a songs, I hope glee don´t ruin it

    love styx

  • Not a big fan of 80's Styx but they covered the

tunes well live. No sequencers, good vocals

good musicianship. That's how they got the

world record during the '83 tour for attendance

    ZZ Top had it previously

  • For my ninth birthday my dad gave me Styx Caught In The Act tape. I was the happiest kid in the world that day.

  • classic love this when mashed

  • @ mormonmilitia: I'm not comparing them to anyone - they just plain suck

  • @Danimal14222 I agree about the sequencers and all that, but they still sucked pretty bad

  • and whom, pray tell, are you comparing them to?

  • @mormonmilitia I'm not comparing them to anyone - they just plain suck

  • Funny thing is, all the "Satanic" indicters didn't realize it was an anti-cocaine song, and the controversy just added to their record sales...and Head...how does this suck...because it's not Sum41 or Avril Lavigne? Don't be a Canucklehead.

  • omg! this band sucks so bad!

  • @headforthetropics No, they actually sounded this good without sequencers, background tapes, or special EFX, it was 1983...they were just that good...had you been around then, before sequencer pre-recording and pro-tools eliminated either backing bands or the ability to play live, then you'd be able to appreciate this.

  • Just another great performance by a fantastic band! No "new" band today can top this!

  • tommy shaw was awesome

  • PURE AWESOMENESS as always

  • love it

  • Well, first I'd like to say that I'm a 22 year old who's seen Styx 2 or 3 times. I saw thenm back in the early 90's before Dennis left and I also saw them after he left. They are amazing live, they do great shows, have great stage shows and sound amazing while live. Second, I just wanted to put an amusing tid-bit in here, this exact concert (intro to this song and everything) is part of a live 2-disc cd set entitled Arch Allies, and is both Styx and REO Speedwagon! (I know 'cause I have it lol)

  • Gay or not, these guys really had some good tunes and albums.

Vocals, Guitars, harmony of both really rock. Where's the talent like this today? ABSENT.

My hats off to the era of Styx, and I'm not even gay.

  • @jeffuSG Why is it when ONE member of a band is gay, people assume they all are? You ARE, however, right about this kind of talent not being around anymore. No one can come close to bands like this now.

  • Is there anyone in this group that is straight?

  • actually just the bass player is gay. i know him, i would not mind setting you two up.

  • @MasterSchmidty

His twin brother John died of a drug overdose resulting in cirrhosis of the liver; a condition that killed him on July 16, 1996 at age 47.

  • This has been one of my favorite songs from them since I was 5 years old... then again, back then I didn't know what it was about.

  • thanks genecottone for naming the album

  • the album james did with jan hammer is called city slickers.

  • been a huge fan of styx since "cornerstones" album- any styx fans out there.. i need some help james james young released a solo album in 88 with jan hammer can any body help with the name of the album.. thanks guys

  • this is one of my fave songs from styx,

heavy metal poisoning, renagade, miss america, too much time on my hands and obviously come sail away are my fave songs

  • I remember the 'Paradise Theatre' Album. They vinyl disc had some kind of colorful visual design right on it.

  • Absolutely Incredible Guitar Playing. Your friends at 35GuitarPickupTones{dot}com

  • R.I.P. John Ponozzo...very underrated drummer.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • this band is so underrated. since guitar hero is giving bands their own game, lets see guitar hero styx. theres plenty of songs that could fill that game. it probabley wont happen, but im hopin. rock on guys!!!

  • As long as songs like this, Father OSA and Half Penny Two Penny are included, I'M THERE!

  • wow, half penny two penny. i haven't heard that one in a long time. good call. also u should check out nothing ever goes as planned it u haven't already. its got a decent guitar solo that id love to play on gh.

  • Yeah, this whole album (except she cares) is great. Doesn't Dennis look so bored when its not one of "his" songs? I like Dennis, he was Styx, but dude, the others wrote some awesome tunes!

  • i agree about the album; i have my own reasons why i like she cares though. ive never had a problem with dennis's song, but between him, tommy and jy, they all contribed to the legacy of styx. and honestly, i like jy wen he sings. he doesn't have the vocals dennis does, but his voice had an interesting touch to any song he sang that ive heard.

  • plus a little guitar hero synthesizer to go with it would be really bad ass!!

  • One of their best.

  • Oh! can you believe, November 14,2009. JY will be the BIG SIX 0, hard to believe, but he looks great....." keep rockin' JY

  • James(JY)Young and STYX, played the Verizon Amphi Theater in Maryland Hieghts,Mo on 7/11/2009. JY lost a pair of designer black denim jeans while here. I found them, the designers name is Ray Brown, "It's a Ray". After contacting Ray Brown, he told me who they where made for, Kinda neat huh.

  • This was a Great Group !!!! Thanks for Sharing !!!!

  • i dont care how many songs are about drugs or anything styx frikin ROCKS and they got a tough break man i wish they were still together!!!

  • @quinzieg they are still together. don't know what you're talking about cause i saw their concert this year.

  • @Zepp710 I meant Dennis DeYoung left the band because of creative differences

  • Cocaine is a helluva drug

  • Comment removed

  • I LOVE JY! THIS SONG FUCKIN ROCKS!!!!

  • lol

  • California has too much time on there hands.

  • Styx is so underrated. ive seen them many times over the years and i have never seen a bad show. JY will always be #1 in my book, just listen to Queen of spades and you'll see what i mean.

  • Now this is ROCK!

  • Awesome at 3:30

  • What does he mean about backwards satanic messages?

  • satanic messages?

    i say: stupids critics ¡¡¡,

    ENJOY THE SHOW

  • At the time of vinyl LP, there was a trend of putting messages that could be heard by positioning the needle at the end of the record and spin the turntable backwards at a given speed manually. But nothing to do with evil...some marketing...there was a Beatles record where we could listen that Paul McCartney was dead...So many years after, these guys are in great shape mentally, phisically and professionally!!! The lyrics are inspiring...

  • Good point. Why is this marked as spam?

  • Witch Wolf is a great song by James Young.

  • James Young has a great voice.

  • favorite top 3 of Styx all-time . It doesn't get any better than this kids. ROCK ON

  • Great band, fantastic tune!

    Thanks for posting!

  • im 14, and for me

    80s rules and fuck rap

  • the 70s were better.

  • I saw them four times in the '70s...they always put on an incredible show. Styx was very much a live band; while I love their studio stuff, there is no comparison - their live performances were magical.

  • He hath a slight lisp

  • That song is pure magic. Thanks for posting it.

  • I couldnt disagree more. I saw them at the the world music theatre in Tinley park with Kansas. I have to say they sounded better than ever. Mind you it was the last time all the original players were there. But non the less great song great Chicago area band.

  • I saw Styx 3 times in the seventies; if you didn't see them then, frankly, you really haven't seen Styx. I never saw them after the "Pieces of Eight" tour; they lost their sound after that. I remember seeing James Young and the rest of the band at Peaches record store doing a promo in Milwaukee as their breakthrough "The Grand Illusion" album was just getting popular.

  • I'm so jealous of you. I'm 18 and really missed out on all the good music. Styx, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin; I can never see them in their prime. It sucks so much.

  • @Princeoftrombones08 And Queen too :/

  • @SignusMelko Amen to that...I managed to see Queen + Paul Rodgers in 2006. NICE, but God, what I wouldn't give to have been old enough back in the day to see Freddie. Was able to see Styx in '96 and '97...but THIS tour would have been something to see! My father saw it, said it was the loudest concert he ever went to!

  • @Princeoftrombones08 same situation here, i just saw styx 2 months ago, and Kansas last year...

  • @Princeoftrombones08

dear princeof.... i saw styx last week and i'm pretty sure they're in their prime if not somehow above it. and anyway my band is this style and workin toward our prime so you'll be around to see us!

  • @Princeoftrombones08 join the club man, thats why us young'un need to put out some killer stuff, or elseus true music lovers will be relegated to a generation of cover bands...

  • @Princeoftrombones08 I really pity you my friend, I was just coming to the age to understand music when those, and others were developing.

You can re-live the era though by watching DVDs, sadly I never got to a Floyd gig but I was rocking at The Valley twice when The Who were there. If you really like this stuff get into Black Sabbath, Ossie's singing and Tony Iommi's guitar solos are something to behold.

  • @Princeoftrombones08 dude im 17 and im with you but iv seen styx like 10 times and they as good as ever you should really go to one of ther shows.

  • @Princeoftrombones08 I'm 15 I totally feel the same way. I totally love seeing styx now, but I wish I could see all the great bands in their heydays :/

  • @Princeoftrombones08 I know the feeling. I'm almost 15 and in the same situation

  • What's cool about Styx is the fact they don't need backing tracks or anything. What you hear in these videos is what you hear in concert; not adding or touching up. I saw them in August and they were incredible.

  • I absolutely love this song. The second side of "Paradise Theater" is so cool with that rainbowy picture. At first, I thought it was a ton of fingerprints. :-)

  • Pure classic guitar solo.

  • Where did you get this video?

  • Caught in the act live concert man

  • love tommy shaw's voice

james' voice is a little too deep for some songs like heavy metal poisoning

  • he does the high voices in some choruses!

  • James Young rules.

  • Never cared for JY's singing all that much but I do love this tune.

Saw him open for ZZTop with the James Young Group on ZZs Antenna tour and it was ok, but it wasn't anything to write home about.

  • I'm sorry to burst your bubble.. Styx didn't tour in 1994.... 1991 is when they stopped with Glen and then picked back up in 1996 for a tour... With Tommy....

  • agreed scanline. he should have sung and done so much more with styx or someone else or even on his own.could go low or high. very versitle, even more than anyone in the band. takes a good ear to know that.

  • james youg had a very powerful voice he could have done much better then styx but we were not ready for a voice like that till the late 90's

  • Cool tune about cocaine from Paradise Theater!

  • Tommy Shaw is your new god, infidels. Godly vocalist.

  • STYX RULES !!

  • Love this band. Saw them in 94 with Kansas.
