  • Wow! Fantastic to see such an early Bowie song. This is clearly before the Ziggy Stardust period, when he was in a band with his wife Angie and Tony Newley? Amazing how Bowie only gets to sing the second verse too, just shows how generous he was to give Angie the first bit.

  • @MNZofPimlico You've probably already worked it out, but that's not Angie Bowie.

  • this makes me wish i was alive in the 60's so i could have been a hippy and therefore a better person.... :(

  • what happened to the other two did they carry on chingalinging

  • Thats Hermione, david's ex girlfriend !

  • WOW ! They dont make em like the old days !!! LMAO......

  • ....this sounds a lot like Saviour Machine.

  • Wow...thisis soooo interesting. Bowie finding his feet. Great stuff.

Although understandable ,at the time this did nothing. Just one of the thousands of hopefuls trying to make it.

  • What were they on ?

  • can't believe he got part of Saviour Machine... from this!

  • @MrMAHBOI1 --- Exactly! I was just trying to figure out which song this became later... thanks!

  • Thank god he went dropped the other two.

  • @IVIIIVV bugger off you great twat!

  • @LarryFlames I didn't even write that comment for your info. Somehow my account has been hacked into by some other idiot who has been leaving deroatory comments on things that thing that he/she knows I lke or want. I want this c.d. this and am having a hell of a time trying to locate just one copy.

I've been a huge Bowie fan since I saw him at the Long Beach Arena, CA around '72 during Ziggy days right before the Santa Monica show.

Isn't the new bootleg called "Toys in the Attic" anyway.

  • @IVIIIVV Sorry, I forgot that I spelled derogatory incorrectly, but I I had started feeling so much angst from whom ever screwed with my account.

  • I am crazy, or the part that all sing reminds some part in Saviour Machine (album The Man who sold the World). It is the first thing I thought while listening

  • which 1 is david bowie?

  • @punkrockefeller the one on the left of the screen, on the right of the girl

  • @punkrockefeller the one in the middle.

  • shame this didnt make it onto the best of bowie dvd.. woulda fit well between lets dance and china girl.

  • He carried the whole song!

  • Terrible

  • Wait, that chick was the inspiration behind "Letter To Hermione"?

  • @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel Yep. She and Bowie had something romantic going until she left him for some dancer fella. Really did a number on his heart. But now the Thin White Emperor has his Slim Dark Empress

  • Bowie looks like the only sober one of the three, imagine that .

  • The other guy,Hutch looks stoned : Real, reeeeaal stoned ! Like pound of pot,2 foot tall bong, 1969, stoned.

  • @chh5555 yeah, saviour machine I think. Its interesting how he picks different tunes to use over the years.

  • ah this was cool :)

  • I can't believe she dumped Bowie! She must have been on some mind bending drugs to dump him!!!!

  • @LornaEGL I know this is a bit late to post to a comment made one year ago but Bowie admitted in an interview that the break with Hermoine was his fault. He said and I quote "I just couldn't keep it zipped."

  • What the friggin hell did Bowie ever see in that Hermione Farthingale???????

I don't think she is that pretty enough for Bowie!

  • @LornaEGL She's pretty

  • the other guy looks stoned...pretty stoned...

  • wow i don't remember reading about this in his autobiography. terrible song but very interesting none the less.

  • Saviour machine!

  • Saviour machine!

  • I recognize the thune of 'Saviour Machine'!

  • Funk me! It's Hermione Farthingale!!! Don't let me stay, don't let me stay

My logic says burn, so send me away

  • Funk me! It's Hermione Farthingale!!!

  • Am I the only one to get 3 separate entries of the same outstanding contribution? I am the 'freakingevilgenius' of You-tube comment entry - ya no shit, sherlock!!!

  • anyone else think the "la la" bit sounds like a bit from Bowie's song, "saviour machine"?

  • Oooooh Ive never seen this before

  • I like charlieidx's comment - who are they? rejects from the first audition of "chitty chitty bang bang". Their 'work group' came up with this ( they'd just come from "Hair" and were very drunk ).They are Hutchinson and Farthingale of course. They ugly one is Hutch - not quite ugly enough for the Childcatcher but too old for a child whose arse had just been smacked! No, Dave ( the real star ) took a backseat here - 'peace Man' and all!!!

  • the other man looks a little like bowie, is it his brother or something?

  • @BearWindAppleyard Oh no ! Bowie had one brother ( I'm quite familiar with his biography ) and he was in a mental hospital by this time ( he was schizophrenic ).

  • @Skulldini ok

  • thanks for posting this!!! i somehow got the song stuck in my head so came here to find it. Great old video, I still have this on vhs with some other Bowie gems!

  • True they all were stoned ! jajajajaja

  • Yeah, it's weird seeing him so young, but they all look stoned to me... Is that just me...? <3 David Bowie!

  • SHAMER!

  • WHAT? David Bowie gets like, two millisecond closeups, and no solo?Everyone must have thought he was ugly and untalented.

Or wait, maybe they were jealous. LOL now I get it. <3 Bowie :D

  • @margethemouse wel I love David of course, butl the other two deserve screentime too. he wasnt the only musician here.

the jealousy bit is soooooo recycled.

  • @LiloPelakai Yes, that was a glib comment from a frothy, uneducated fan of Bowie. I now know that the song here was from HIS promotional film 'Love you till Tuesday' so obviously he wasn't underexposed.

    p.s. recycling is green

  • LOL awesome.

  • In America, there was a comedy show called the Dick Van Dyke show, and they had a Christmas special where they sang, we all are fine musicians, we practice every day... I think that must have inspired Dave.

  • wow this is weird

  • The chorus of this song is straight up "Savior Machine" from Man Who Sold the World

  • if anything david liked his writing in this time period more so than any other.

  • Comment removed

  • Weird, she always seemed so pretty in photos but she looks like a tranny here.

  • written by bowie?

  • jamierourketen, Yes this was written by Bowie

  • I like the way only Dave has the slightest idea of 'playing the guitar'. The other two may as well be playing Guitar Hero.

  • @charlieidx Bowie is the only one strumming, the other two are finger picking, which is actually much harder.

  • @gazgazgazhoops What I was saying is... he's the best at making it LOOK like he's playing the guitar. Never mind...

  • @charlieidx STOP BEING A CUNT

  • @gazzah54 What exactly are you on about, please?

  • 1:11 - 1:24

  • HAHA! It really is Saviour machine :P

  • My logic says 'burn'.

  • Ha ha....proto-Saviour Machine! Genius.

  • thank the heavens he got away from this! :-)

  • Yours is the better sound quality of this upload. I use to have the original acetate pressing of this track from 1968. Mine was the engineers copy I believe.

  • It seems Bowie borrowed some part of the music from this song for his own "Saviour Machine" from the Man Who Sold the World-album.

    Anyone agrees?

  • Yes definitely!!

  • She looks like a female Bowie I hate to say it.

  • Interesting!

So now we know who Hermione is...

  • what was bowie doing with these other muppets!

  • Well ones his girlfriend (hermione) for a start. This is a great little track imo.

  • dont you mean (was his girlfriend)? the thick asswipe!

  • Presumably the same Hermione that he wrote the song "Letter for Hermione" about?

  • @Rumpio: Hermione Farthingale, yep that is her.

  • David on two pillows:)

  • David Bowie

    its so beautiful

    and have great talent

    its the best
