  • FOREST GUMP

  • Extremely intense.

  • the best doobie's song ever!

  • I was kidnapped, tied up,all I could hear thru the walls was justen beebr, jz, and some guy called michael bolten, I called out, no-one came! Then came my chance, I kicked some guy on the nutz, and ran like Forest Gump, and I made it back!! God I love you guys! Letz rock!

  • Bought the 8 Track Tape of this Album in the Spring of 1977 along with 8 Track Tapes of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac,Boston's Debut Album,Elvis Live On Stage In Memphis '74 and Moody Blue. Made the trip time to Long Island in late July that Summer '77 from Buffalo to Albany to NYC along the Thruway seem to run smooth. Ordered the CD of this Album from Amazon

  • Love this album. Underrated album by the Doobie Brothers.

  • this band has always had good lead singers. including this cat. they also might possibly have the greatest band name ever in music history. lol

  • YouTube Friends, I wish I could tell you all what this song mheans to me... anyway, you're all very cool.. very very cool.. and i wish you all the best and happiness.. cheers!!!!!

  • @altazboy your the man!!

  • @TheJimmyjames8 cheers Jj.. thanks a lot - back at ya!

  • When I hear this music, I think of a nice warm summer night in NYC Manhattan streets with your lover in your arm and enjoying the nighttime scenery with no care in the world, but to have the one you love wrapped in your arms and saying I love you and feeling the love for one another.

  • @T8HPO I went to NY this past fall from Missouri, What a huge city, I came out of the Holland tunnel, in the wrong lane, wound up in China Town, two and a half hours later, I get to Long Island, No thanks to Dennis Hopper, my GPS spokesman,Wish I, would have had this playing, and told Dennis to shut the fuck up!!

  • I love rollerblading to this jive music!

  • One of my favorite Doobie songs.. I was 10 when I got this album... LOVE!

  • this song is fucking classic. i was only 9 when this gem was unearthed. great funk. great band.

  • I believe I burned out at least three sets of rear tires on '78 Camaro listening to the Doobie Brorthers Greatest Hits over my younger years, I know, what a red neck, but there is just something about going 120 mph with the widows down and the Doobies blasting through the tri-axels speakers. Oh my.

  • @jackstrawfromATL thats not redneck, that is living large in your youth.look at the kids today and the shit they call music, would you trade?

  • @jackstrawfromATL i''m 61 yrz old now but very much intouch with what you're saying.. how the hell I'm alive is a total mystery ... anyway, what you've said makes total sense to me............ God bless

  • By late 1975, touring was beginning to take its toll on the band, especially leader Tom Johnston. Things became worse during touring in support of "Stampede" when he was diagnosed with stomach ulcers. His condition worsened and several shows had to be canceled. With Johnston forced to reduce his involvement with the band, the other members considered just calling it quits

  • Tyran Porter on Bass...one of the Best...the Heavenly Band has another hammer musician but, we will not forget him...Love you Doobies...and Thanks Patrick...

  • Best Doob song ever, well except for Listen to the Music, Another Park, Another Sunday, etc. Still it is a very great song!

  • this song would start the end credits to my life... truly amazing.

  • I swear to god Michael Mcdonald sounds like James Ingram.

  • WHAT a SOUND, WHAT A VOICE...Never gets old! Luv you, Michael McDonald

  • In a nostalgic mood, this band brings back so many memories.......brilliant track.

  • lol llamo be there

  • LOVE this song !

  • @alaurasullivan1 Me too...!

  • This is by far the best Michael McDonald lead vocal song of the Doobie Brothers.

  • I really like the bridge 'I know what it means to hide you're heart' at 1;27, and the accoustic guitar, cord regression at 1;34 in you're right headphone,to be able to put harmony's to music like this, what a gift.

  • Sunny days back then in Providence! They had to follow YES the next night.Boy that was a mountain to climb, and they forgot their hiking shoes. How did any band play against the mighty YES?OK I'll give the Doobies a nod,but their sound system and the civic center accoustics were a hinder. How did YES figure it out?Shear Brilliance, that,s how.

  • The Best!!!!!

  • Thanks for the video. I like much, again thanks.

  • What a great, great, great soulful & funky tune that just makes you feel good!!

  • Peaked at number 37?This song should had either been a Top 5 hit or number 1.

  • Prune juice keeps me runnin'. lol

  • One of the BEST and believe me, I'm old enough to know what the best is.

  • I remember the summer of 1976 listening to this album and transfering it to tape, so I could cruising in my Mustang on the restless ribbon on brookside and chillin with my "babe". Very good times, wish I could go back.

  • @savid67GTO Brookside huh? ..... You've never eaten at coney Islander, have you? Or maybe taken in a movie at the Admiral Twin? :)

  • Son of a gun. I was here yesterday and there was 36 veiws. Look at it now.

  • I like Mcdonald era. Not of humburger.

  • Wow! I had no idea that this song was that old! I kind of thought it came out in the early 80's. I was wrong! But I absolutely love this song! I always have! Obviously when Michael McDonald came into the group. Cool video!

  • 70'S MUSIC WAS SOME OF THE BEST

  • @publicgood LOL!

  • @publicgood i know u mean well, but nobody sounds like mike mc-d. and if my man ingram came close, he would sound like mike rather than mike sounding like him. question? ur not confusing their voices with their duet 'Yo' Mo B There' ru? peace

  • @publicgood play that funky music-white boy!! 179 millon should be listening-minute by minute!!

  • GREAT ALBUM. DID ANYONE POST "8TH AVENUE SHUFFLE"? I LOVE THAT SONG. THIS WHOLE ALBUM IS AWESOME. AND "RIO".................

  • saw the Doobie brothers last night so amazing

  • The bassline to this song is amazing...

  • @Joetime90 Yeah, I think Tiran Porter is one of the most underrated bassists of the last 40 years. His playing was so creative and melodic, but he never overplayed. I've been playing bass for 20 years now, and I'm proud to say that he is a HUGE influence for me.

  • The early 70's had the best music . . . until the disco crap came out . . . then the early 80's were pretty good too

  • One word UNBELIEVABLE

  • i must agree with acoustamaniac with that 1. michael mcdonald was the vocal icon that made the doobies big!!! they were all fine musicians, but i gotta give mike big credit for his vocal capacity even when he went solo he was very good. PEACE ALL

yeah, I vote, let's do it!

  • mmmm

  • "The Best of the Doobies" was the first album my folks ever gave me when I was in elementary school!! Cool parents, huh?!? And in South Dakota too!! I still worship 'em! Thanks Mom and DAD!!!!!

  • Maybe if the Doobs get in touch with Jann Wenner, he might nominate 'em for the Rock Hall again. apologizin' for any bad-mouthin' the Doobs gave. The Doobs are too darn good NOT to be in the Hall. they hit #37 in Billboard, 1-29-77. God bless ya, fab4fan, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • "FAH-artttt!"

  • @brunosgirl...I bet she was a wonderful woman!

  • I thought this was Steely Dan and I went to a Doobie Bros concert in the mid 70's... may have been my first.... what was i smoking?

  • LOVE this song!!!

  • First LP with the Voice of Michael McDonald. I'm in this hardcore Yacht Rock phase, and it's clear that the whole genre revolves around McDonald, with the Doobs, solo, or as background vocalist.

  • ...these guys are just awesome, period.I remember when they came back after a long time in '89 with "the Doctor". A really great tune.People who like this stuff, are cool by my book...the 1 dislike,well...he/she must have hit the dislike button by accident...lol!

  • Surprising to me it got to only 37, but of course, we all know, music on the whole was light-years better in 1976 over today. I love the lyric, are you gonna worry for the rest of your life....

  • Loved this album then, love it still.

  • I've always thought this songs intro sounded like an intro to Super Nintendo game, which is pretty cool, I guess.

  • This song is about eating too much Raisin Bran. D:

  • the best generation in all nations

  • Remember hearing this song on Disneys Fantasia when i was like 5, then again in Forrest Gump, GREAT song that @51512601

  • @chefkashira this was in Fantasia!? :O

i remember hearing it before, and then i heard it during Forrest Gump a while ago. i was trying to figure out who wrote it, and i would've never guessed The Doobies...i was thinking Steely Dan the whole time

  • Im 23 and I remember getting into the Doobies freshman year of high school. The first time I heard the Doobies I was eight years old and "Takin It To The Streets" was the back up music on a commercial of some sort. I always remembered that voice and years later they had Mike McD on some MCI commercials. I asked my pops who the guy on the MCI commercial was and he told me it was the old lead singer of the Doobies. I found their music I have been hooked on this song and the Doobies ever since.

  • It keeps me running..

    yeah !

    BenE.F.

  • The Doobies are just the Doobies, awesome! like 174

  • Forrest Gump!!!!!

  • 1 person is clearly not takin' it to the streets.

  • @BoozehammerOfGalem and he's got another dumbass with him lol

  • One of my greatest TV memories was the DB's on 'Whats Happening" ;p

  • This song haunts me. Reminds me of all my failures...too many to mention. Yet, God lets me live. For humor, I guess...

  • @Magnimammen I would bet that you are learning from those failures...And of course God lets you live... not for humor... but to see the amazing person you will become someday. I don't think we'll be disappointed... sounds like you are almost there !! Have an excellent week, friend.

  • @Magnimammen Laugh along. makes everything 20x more fun.

  • Don't understand why this song never made it to the top. I just love the music and lyrics. Sooo soulful. It's about fear of love........

  • I listened this classic when came out over and over and over................

  • I listened to this when first came out over and over and over............

  • chill!

  • Original fuckin classic! love ya Mike, thank you!

  • This song is not about good times. The song is about someone who has been hurt or abused by someone who was suppose to love. Now they hide their heart afraid to love again and the singer understands because the singer has been living with the same pain. Evertime they get close to love they run away and not wanting to be hurt again they hide their love and once you do that it...Keeps you running... Yea it keeps you running...Where you gonna go...Where you gonna hide for the rest of your live?

  • @BadguyturnedGoodThis song is not about good times. The song is about someone who has been hurt or abused by someone who was suppose to love. LONG HAIR, GOOD MUSIC, HOT CARS , AND CUTE GIRLS WEARING MINI-SKIRTS!!! OH, AND DISCO TOO! THESE WERE SOME OF THE BEST YEARS IN MY HONEST OPINION. I WILL ALWAYS MISS THOSE DAYS OF MY LIFE. • @jfjusa1 My great memories too , this song reminds me of my first real summer boyfriend...I love this song!

  • This song flat out gives me goosebumps...

  • OOOOHHHH, BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the best put-together pop tunes of the 70's.

  • It keeps you running,

    Yeah, it keeps you running.

    It keeps you running,

    Running and hiding.

My personal chorus for the song :D

  • This song was covered by Carly Simon, appearing on her album Another Passenger, with the Doobies backing her.

  • @nutleyguitar1968

thanks for the Carly album title here. i wanted to hear her version, and this helped me track it down on eMusic and iTunes.

  • Only thing this song needs is a little more of the intro and end music!

  • The 70's produced some of the best songs the world has ever heard. I 100% love this song. :)

  • Very beautiful song from 1977!

  • How did they do that percussion loop back in 1976?

  • Amazing this song only peaked at 37..#1 to my ears and in my book...Could Forrest be wrong???.....Never...
