Bought the 8 Track Tape of this Album in the Spring of 1977 along with 8 Track Tapes of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac,Boston's Debut Album,Elvis Live On Stage In Memphis '74 and Moody Blue. Made the trip time to Long Island in late July that Summer '77 from Buffalo to Albany to NYC along the Thruway seem to run smooth. Ordered the CD of this Album from Amazon
YouTube Friends, I wish I could tell you all what this song mheans to me... anyway, you're all very cool.. very very cool.. and i wish you all the best and happiness.. cheers!!!!!
When I hear this music, I think of a nice warm summer night in NYC Manhattan streets with your lover in your arm and enjoying the nighttime scenery with no care in the world, but to have the one you love wrapped in your arms and saying I love you and feeling the love for one another.
@T8HPO I went to NY this past fall from Missouri, What a huge city, I came out of the Holland tunnel, in the wrong lane, wound up in China Town, two and a half hours later, I get to Long Island, No thanks to Dennis Hopper, my GPS spokesman,Wish I, would have had this playing, and told Dennis to shut the fuck up!!
I believe I burned out at least three sets of rear tires on '78 Camaro listening to the Doobie Brorthers Greatest Hits over my younger years, I know, what a red neck, but there is just something about going 120 mph with the widows down and the Doobies blasting through the tri-axels speakers. Oh my.
@jackstrawfromATL i''m 61 yrz old now but very much intouch with what you're saying.. how the hell I'm alive is a total mystery ... anyway, what you've said makes total sense to me............ God bless
By late 1975, touring was beginning to take its toll on the band, especially leader Tom Johnston. Things became worse during touring in support of "Stampede" when he was diagnosed with stomach ulcers. His condition worsened and several shows had to be canceled. With Johnston forced to reduce his involvement with the band, the other members considered just calling it quits
Michael MacDonald saved the Doobie Brothers from extinction in 1975. The Doobie Brothers were going the way of the Beatles did in 1969 by 1975 with Tom Johnston's serious health crisis.
Tyran Porter on Bass...one of the Best...the Heavenly Band has another hammer musician but, we will not forget him...Love you Doobies...and Thanks Patrick...
I really like the bridge 'I know what it means to hide you're heart' at 1;27, and the accoustic guitar, cord regression at 1;34 in you're right headphone,to be able to put harmony's to music like this, what a gift.
Sunny days back then in Providence! They had to follow YES the next night.Boy that was a mountain to climb, and they forgot their hiking shoes. How did any band play against the mighty YES?OK I'll give the Doobies a nod,but their sound system and the civic center accoustics were a hinder. How did YES figure it out?Shear Brilliance, that,s how.
i have fond memories of the doobies saw them many times they were just here at ft knox couple days ago they still ROCK i have those very same sun glasses
I remember the summer of 1976 listening to this album and transfering it to tape, so I could cruising in my Mustang on the restless ribbon on brookside and chillin with my "babe". Very good times, wish I could go back.
Wow! I had no idea that this song was that old! I kind of thought it came out in the early 80's. I was wrong! But I absolutely love this song! I always have! Obviously when Michael McDonald came into the group. Cool video!
@publicgood i know u mean well, but nobody sounds like mike mc-d. and if my man ingram came close, he would sound like mike rather than mike sounding like him. question? ur not confusing their voices with their duet 'Yo' Mo B There' ru? peace
@Joetime90 Yeah, I think Tiran Porter is one of the most underrated bassists of the last 40 years. His playing was so creative and melodic, but he never overplayed. I've been playing bass for 20 years now, and I'm proud to say that he is a HUGE influence for me.

This song is not about good times. The song is about someone who has been hurt or abused by someone who was suppose to love. Now they hide their heart afraid to love again and the singer understands because the singer has been living with the same pain. Evertime they get close to love they run away and not wanting to be hurt again they hide their love and once you do that it...Keeps you running... Yea it keeps you running...Where you gonna go...Where you gonna hide for the rest of your live?

GOD I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG! I REMEMBER THE 70'S LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY! BELL BOTTOM JEANS AND SKIN TIGHT RAYON AND SILK SHIRTS. PLATFORM SHOES!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! LONG HAIR, GOOD MUSIC, HOT CARS , AND CUTE GIRLS WEARING MINI-SKIRTS!!! OH, AND DISCO TOO! THESE WERE SOME OF THE BEST YEARS IN MY HONEST OPINION. I WILL ALWAYS MISS THOSE DAYS OF MY LIFE. SAD HOW QUICKLY TIME PASSES BY. I WANNA GO BACK AND DO IT ALL OVER. :(
@jfjusa1 I was the one over in the corner with the multi-colored puffy sleeved polyester shirt, with the white pleather shoes and gold chain around my neck
I had a love for the Doobs, from a young age! My old man, use to play it all the time on his high tech stereo back in the 70's...--------------;-) Peace, Fan

@BadguyturnedGoodThis song is not about good times. The song is about someone who has been hurt or abused by someone who was suppose to love. Now they hide their heart afraid to love again and the singer understands because the singer has been living with the same pain. Everytime they get close to love they run away not wanting to be hurt again They hide their love and once you do that itKeeps you runningYea it keeps you runningWhere you gonna goWhere you gonna hide for the rest of your live

It keeps you running,
Yeah, it keeps you running.

Running and hiding.
My personal chorus for the song :D

This song was covered by Carly Simon, appearing on her album Another Passenger, with the Doobies backing her.

I had a love for the Doobs, from a young age! My old man, use to play it all the time on his high tech stereo back in the 70's...--------------;-) Peace, Fan
