Once I graduated then medijobz got me a job. I got work in a facility and I making $21 an hour plus teeth and benefits. It work really well for me
@ScarletUtterfly well after becoming a CNA you can either choose to go straight to LVN or do some prereqs for RN, either one will work and like for me i want to choose the CNA---LVN---RN path so i can take the steps really slowly. to be an LVN you have to have a CNA license before you get in this depends on the state your in, and institution. You should subscribe to me and youll see my journey towards CNA schooling. thanks. ask more questions if you have them
@tribalfriend1 not worry about the pay? well that sounds fine and dandy but alot of these programs are VERY expensive and give the impression you will be making a decent salary when the truth is you will NOT. Also, that 11 dollars an hour isnt looking too well when you have a mortgage/ kids / car payment etc in this economy. Either go straight to nursing (RN not some LPN, CNA or other) and get a real job that will be really respectable and important while paying the bills at the same time :)

I have been a CNA (or RCT resident care technician at the nursing home) and in my state it is only required to take 75 hours of the class and then take a writing and skills exam. and the reason why CNA's make less money is because of corporate and state, which regulates all of the OSHA and HIPPA compliants....They make all the rules and regulations and get paid the big bucks

a good nurse's aid is like a rare precious jewel. as a inpatient RN, getting a CNA to help u with basic patient needs (bathing/toileting)are like pulling teeth w/o an anesthetic. they just dont want to do what they r hired to do. in the end i end up doing TOTAL care of the pt. my first job as an RN was 15$/hr! in some crappy border town in TX. people today feel entitled and refuse to do the "dirty work" for 15$/hr.
@jaysmic24 I'm thinking about being a CNA and I work very hard at working no matter what the job. My mother is a CNA, but she gets paid a lot ( almost 15 an hour ). She works hard too.
@zomven1 CNAs may only make round $10 an hour, but you gotta remember they get a shit load of overtime, shift differentials, and pick up bonus. I'm a CNA and last year I made close to $22,000. Nursing assistants take care of peoples lives, I'd choose this over fast food any day.

thanks for your comment ! this makes me want to start off as a CNA even more so. lol =]
Thats kinda funny coming from a person who may need CNA to take care of you in your future. You may appreciate them a lot more by then but Im sure your big mouth and simple mind will put you under before that
that lady @:51 is doing that way Incorrectly, I have worked with many Mexican women in the health care field and that is something they should not be doing they are way too rough
Are you a nursing assistant looking to become a nurse? My organization provides a $5000 scholarship to the Nursing Assistant of the Year. Search YouTube for "nursing assistant scholarship" for more information.
Also for those reading this who are going to be working as a CNA or PCT, taking care of yourself is even more important. Make sure to drink plenty of water while at work to not get dehydrated since the job is pretty physical. Take a good multivitamin everyday and eat a good breakfast. Wash your hands a LOT. Personal problems such as a divorce or breakup, etc should be handled away from work. Take time off for any emotional problems like that because you wont be able to concentrate at work.
Its just human nature for some people to hate i guess lol. Speaking of that it also happens on the job too. Dont give anyone at work anything to fight you with. We all need our jobs in this economy so if you get hired as a CNA, during the first 90 days do everything you can to not be late and not call in. Reliability is more than half of the job depending on where you work. Take a 3x5 card and write reminders for yourself on it if you are prone to forgetting things to avoid patient complaints.
thanks again I'll make sure I do that. I'm taking my state test in jan.13 and i'm a little scared but i've been practicing every day. I have to get my " L" because they won't hurry me with out them :(
You also have to be a person that is not emotionally sensitive if a patient calls you out of your name or if a nurse or co-worker talks to you in a tone that you perceive as being mean. You'll be working with people from different ethnic backgrounds and cultures and their way of talking or doing things may be different from yours and you cant be too sensitive. Also try not to get angry if on some days you are not able to take your lunch break because the needs of the patients are so complex.
Hi everone, I make really cute CNA tshirts and mugs. The perfect Thank you. Thank someone else, or thank yourself! Please check my profile for my store link.
I don't know about some people but this is the field you go in to because you just love to help people. I finished my CNA l class at the beginning of this year and right now I'm in CNA ll class. After that I'll probably go for my RN:)
What I mean by "cover your ass" is keep a seperate notebook like a journal that is just for work. Each page can be for a different day and in it write down any issues, incidents, accidents, etc with patients or co-workers while its fresh in your memory. Sometimes an issue at work can be brought to your attention a week, a month, or even 2 months afterwards and you have forgotten all the DETAILS. This way with your journal you can backtrack effectively if you are questioned about something.
CNA in my opinion is a terrible job. You really need to have the attitude and the frame of mind that you are there helping the sick and disabled out of the kindness of your heart because your paycheck will never match what you deserve for doing that type of work. The stress, lack of respect, mean nurses and manipulative nurse managers are things you put up with. If you say you need a certain day off, they frequently do the opposite of what you ask and "pretend" they forgot. Its not worth it!!
I think I will likw being a cna. I getting ready to start a program on it and going to take my cna test thing. I think for me it will be a good job because I love to help people. As far as the pay. I think 9.00 an hour is enough for me because I'm young. And it will pay for my bills and college. Lots of people do it for the money and don't care for the patients, and people like that, DO NOT have any reason or buisness to do cna. I'll do cna until I finish college, then I will be a RN!
Thats good, don't get me wrong its ok if you enjoy helping sick people but as the months pass you will begin to notice the negative aspects of the job quickly start to outweigh the good aspects. TEAMWORK is supposed to be the goal which provides the best care for patients but if you really pay attention, as the CNA, you'll see that YOU are the only one truly giving care while the nurse and other staff members try to touch the patient as less as possible and its the patient that suffers from it.
Yeah, Cna shouldn't be for everybody. Most people only do it for the money. But I'm doing it for the patient. Its good that I'm getting paid, I mean, there are some things I might not like about it, But I still want to do it=)
I am currently in school going for my BSN, and I can tell you that nurses are just as involved in patient care as CNAs and other healthcare providers. You are correct in that teamwork is extremely important. And not every hospital is adequately staffed, so that puts a strain teamwork and relationships. As for nurses trying to not touch their patients, in my coursework, touch and interpersonal relationship with patients are emphasized again and again. Those...
... who act like that obviously do not have a good foundation in nursing and shouldn't be in the field in the first place. I love helping people and I love being a student nurse. If I couldn't be an RN or an LPN, I would strive to be an CNA and just simply work my way. My fellow classmates and I have discussed about going for our NP degree, but I enjoy being at the bedside. The medical field is filled with so many opportunities. You just have to find the place that's right for you.
Meant to say that I enjoy being at the bedside and have no desire to go on to get my NP degree. Sorry about that, lol. =) My comments are directed to theloyalone100; I posted reply to their comment, but it doesn't look like it's falling under their comment. Just for clarification. =)
Also when you become a CNA make sure to carefully go over your paycheck to be certain you are getting paid for all the hours you work. With the recession, everyone is being tight with money and the health care field is no exception. If you work full time, you may notice your check is a different amount every time you are paid and that could be due to someone making mistakes in payroll. Also write everything down going on during your shift to "cover your ass" if something happens on the job.
in las vegas i got a job right out of school as a nursing assistant in training meaning not yet certified but passed the program and i make 10.50 when i get certified ill make 11.25 :D and thats in a nursing home in hospitals out here they make like $16-17 an hour ;D
For those of you who are saying CNA is a bad job, think about this. I am 15 years old, if i worked at walmart, i would be making $7 an hour, with no raises until i am over the age of 18. I am a CNA and i get payed $9.90 an hour with raises depending on the part of the center I work at. I only work part time, and I make enough money to buy what I need. I know how to spend my money wisely, so maybe that everyone elses problem.
Why do you even care about what anyone else here says about your job as a cna? As long as you are happy with it then thats all that should matter. And for the record, i never said that it was a bad job to have. I said that the cna's don't make enough for the hard work tthat hey have to do.
Why I care what other people say about my job is because I am the one who cares enough to take care of their elderly family member, so if they want grandma jan to have the best care possibly, why do they think that a CNA is a bad job (you may not have said it, but others have) After all, CNA's do the hands on stuff, like feeding and bathing them
See, I should have done what you did. I worked at Wal-Mart for 3 1/2 years during college before I got accepted to the nursing program at my school. I went from $8.15 - $9.95 during that time. That's absolutely NOTHING. You're off to a great start! =)
Find a better place that pays More... Nothing is wrong with being a CNA i use to be one... Some nurses may or may not respect you... But I know most of DOCTORS and Patients appreciate us more because we spend more time with them.
Being a CNA is not glamorous at all. Any mistakes you make at work no matter how minor, are always remembered much more than the excellent things you do. CNA's don't get any real respect from administration. CNA's are the highest at risk for contracting MRSA, TB, C-Diff, and other work-related casual contact infections. Unless you plan to regularly work double-shifts(16hrs.), or work 2 jobs, then the pay-rate is barely a living wage. CNA jobs aren't worth the stress. Try a unit-secretary class.
I would NEVER go into this field. it is a very stressful and physically demanding job. And the pay is very low. CNA's don't get the respect and the right pay that need for such hard work.
i don't know where you live but CNA pay where i am is $9.90.....its a really rewarding job. I've gotten all the respect I need, and if i were to pay $30 bucks to take the CMA class, i would make $10.80 an hour. for over time, I get time and a half....so for overtime, which is most of my pay, i get around 15 dollars an hour. I think that that is pretty good for a 15 year old, how about you?
Thanks for the upload....nice video....I had really nice nurse when I was in the hospital for my surgery of my open heart surgery....can you tell me on what I can do to help my back? It's really sore right now so I'm thinking about a massage therapist.
Next semester, I'll be in the CNA prgram and I honestly can not wait for it! It really does pump me up to know I'll be helping people and wearing scrubs while doing it! It's also a great stepping stone in becoming an RN (which is what I'll be in a few years).
the pay is different from state to state, i know where i live (nevada) you start at 13-15 an hour, and its a 60 hour work week. So, and you can also work anywhere in the hospital. im going for my CNA this spring then im going for my BS in nursing.
Wow, pretty low pay for such a stressful and "dirty" job. $9.00 an hour? I could just go to Wal-mart and make that much. They should get paid at least $15 starting. Hospitals and long-term facilities take advantage of CNA's.
@HopeforTomrrow09 Cana DUH! Things cost a lot more in Canada, so you have to earn more. So many people come from up there and spend their Canadian dollar in the US because it's less expensive to live here.
@chazzyMooMoo While I do think everyone in hard labor jobs should be paid more, you must consider that the costs of health care are incredibly high as is. Positions in CNA are sometimes fueled by people who want to get experience in the field before going into nursing, physician assistant, or even medical school. It also gives a good entry opportunity to recent immigrants. I don't have an extensive background working with CNA's but my understanding is that rarely it is a long-term career.
@chazzyMooMoo I agree..$15 an hour is fair for a stressful job........Im going to start in about 3 weeks time to train for a CNA..I hope they give me at least $13 an hour or thats just my money going to waste for which I payed nearly $1,000 .............
I doubt 1,000 will ever be a waste for training and certification even if it's just 9.00 an hr. that you start off with unless you NEVER in your life get hired, here in california there is a program that will cost around 300 according to them. I think I will get in it even if it takes forever to find a job because I have lots of time on my hands right now and what better way to use it than education? lol
@chazzyMooMoo Do Walmart wage slaves get medical benefits to match what a typical CNA gets? How 'bout benefits at world's largest private employer/parasite?
@chazzyMooMoo it is now about 14 and 16 bucks an hour and it has over time. this means double payments.. and plus u get good insurance.most of hospital u dont have to clean shit.
this time insurance is not cheap. i pay from outof my pocket for me it is really not cheap.
i'm also planning to becoming a CNA then next step LVN...then if all goes well RN, which is a little more complicated to get in *cries* :(

Also write everything down going on during your shift to "cover your ass" if something happens on the job.
theloyalone100 2 years ago 2
after HS you can go and take CNA for 1 month
and LPN for 1yr
then RN for 2yrs
as long as u have cna and lpn background you will be eligible to take RN course for 1-2yrs

You are right about everything that you have said about this field. I don't know why so many people have given you dumbs down.

in las vegas i got a job right out of school as a nursing assistant in training meaning not yet certified but passed the program and i make 10.50 when i get certified ill make 11.25 :D and thats in a nursing home in hospitals out here they make like $16-17 an hour ;D
Chamorita8907 2 years ago
For those of you who are saying CNA is a bad job, think about this. I am 15 years old, if i worked at walmart, i would be making $7 an hour, with no raises until i am over the age of 18. I am a CNA and i get payed $9.90 an hour with raises depending on the part of the center I work at. I only work part time, and I make enough money to buy what I need. I know how to spend my money wisely, so maybe that everyone elses problem.
TaylorRumsey 2 years ago
Why do you even care about what anyone else here says about your job as a cna? As long as you are happy with it then thats all that should matter. And for the record, i never said that it was a bad job to have. I said that the cna's don't make enough for the hard work tthat hey have to do.
angelcarmichael 2 years ago 4
Why I care what other people say about my job is because I am the one who cares enough to take care of their elderly family member, so if they want grandma jan to have the best care possibly, why do they think that a CNA is a bad job (you may not have said it, but others have) After all, CNA's do the hands on stuff, like feeding and bathing them
TaylorRumsey 2 years ago
See, I should have done what you did. I worked at Wal-Mart for 3 1/2 years during college before I got accepted to the nursing program at my school. I went from $8.15 - $9.95 during that time. That's absolutely NOTHING. You're off to a great start! =)

@TaylorRumsey Where in the US is a 15-year-old allowed to be a CNA? I don't even know many 15 year olds that can take a job at Chick-Fil-A.
I wouldn't want a minor caring for my family member. It's just way too involved and demanding. Just saying.
(Yes, I know that your post is 2 years old.)

Find a better place that pays More... Nothing is wrong with being a CNA i use to be one... Some nurses may or may not respect you... But I know most of DOCTORS and Patients appreciate us more because we spend more time with them.

For some people, the CNA course is simply a stepping stone for the nursing program.
musicstar617 2 years ago 6
Being a CNA is not glamorous at all. Any mistakes you make at work no matter how minor, are always remembered much more than the excellent things you do. CNA's don't get any real respect from administration. CNA's are the highest at risk for contracting MRSA, TB, C-Diff, and other work-related casual contact infections. Unless you plan to regularly work double-shifts(16hrs.), or work 2 jobs, then the pay-rate is barely a living wage. CNA jobs aren't worth the stress. Try a unit-secretary class.
kirz778 2 years ago 4
I would NEVER go into this field. it is a very stressful and physically demanding job. And the pay is very low. CNA's don't get the respect and the right pay that need for such hard work.
angelcarmichael 3 years ago 19
i don't know where you live but CNA pay where i am is $9.90.....its a really rewarding job.

Next semester, I'll be in the CNA prgram and I honestly can not wait for it! It really does pump me up to know I'll be helping people and wearing scrubs while doing it! It's also a great stepping stone in becoming an RN (which is what I'll be in a few years).
lunafan90 3 years ago 3
Me to! Im pumped as shit!
DoNotForgetToBreathe 2 years ago
the pay is different from state to state, i know where i live (nevada) you start at 13-15 an hour, and its a 60 hour work week. So, and you can also work anywhere in the hospital. im going for my CNA this spring then im going for my BS in nursing.
wopami86 3 years ago
Wow, pretty low pay for such a stressful and "dirty" job. $9.00 an hour? I could just go to Wal-mart and make that much. They should get paid at least $15 starting. Hospitals and long-term facilities take advantage of CNA's.

hello,u must learn and knows better about the CNA wihtour medical course in the world people will die..so every profession we have its our choice..

@chazzyMooMoo
lol it's more than $9.00 in canada it's around $14.00-$23.00
America is cheap.
HopeforTomrrow09 1 year ago
@HopeforTomrrow09 Cana DUH! Things cost a lot more in Canada, so you have to earn more. So many people come from up there and spend their Canadian dollar in the US because it's less expensive to live here.
amspecial 1 year ago
@chazzyMooMoo While I do think everyone in hard labor jobs should be paid more, you must consider that the costs of health care are incredibly high as is. Positions in CNA are sometimes fueled by people who want to get experience in the field before going into nursing, physician assistant, or even medical school. It also gives a good entry opportunity to recent immigrants. I don't have an extensive background working with CNA's but my understanding is that rarely it is a long-term career.
TheBottomContributor 1 year ago
@chazzyMooMoo I agree..$15 an hour is fair for a stressful job........Im going to start in about 3 weeks time to train for a CNA..I hope they give me at least $13 an hour or thats just my money going to waste for which I payed nearly $1,000 .............
pentogram23 1 year ago
@pentogram23
