I swear, this music played every single time I sieged a town/city with my cannons in the America's campaign. Every time I hear it, cannon blasts go off in my mind. And the collapsing of walls. And dead men.
I remember first hearing this music when playing M2TW as either the Spanish or the Venetians. After playing most of the campaign in the Mediterranean and Europe, landing in the New World and fighting the natives was as if my army had landed on a different planet.
ahh, an epic battle with this song was when I was on a hilltop with 200 musketeers and coquistadore cavalry and a general against 2500 aztecs - they never made it to the hill :)
Hmmm, Walking on Fortaleza with this songs, melting them with my 4 serpentines, while approaching my scotish guards, my Adventurers and my Musketeer.
Then, charging with my Gendarmes, oh yeah, epic win, took a village of 900 wood stick armied people, with 2500 soldiers, elite cavalry, elite infantry, elite archery and elite artillery :D
I really wish the medieval Europeans had tried to invade America earlier in the Middle Ages. It would have been so tits to see a legit large scale battle between the two radically different cultures. I really just want to see a fair fight between the two. NO SMALLPOX THIS TIME, EUROPEANS!
The picture makes sense to me, it makes me thing the knight is one of the first europeans looking up in awe at this bizarre and mighty new culture, the aztecs
(though i guess he doesnt look anything like a conquistador )
The Aztecs,Mayans, just about all Ancient Meso-American tribes were wiped out by the Spanish, just like the US Army Wiped out many of the Natives in the 1800s. Although it was the natives land.
@XxGAMINGHQxX well, they discovered a new land..everybody who was in their position would do the same, so there would be no opposing forces as they conquered the native land
@XxGAMINGHQxX Not so. At his greatest strength Cortez's forces barely exceeded 500 men. The Aztecs had armies numbering in the hundreds of thousands. Even with cavalry, steel and gunpowder weapons the Spanish could never have survived such odds were it not for Cortez’s ability to exploit rivalries between different tribes and nation states like the Tlaxcalans.
Small pox and other diseases brought over by Europeans are what actually wiped out the Mesoamerican Civilizations.
shame though that many of the mesoamerica religion is gone...hate the heart cutting thing but they were good math folk appeartantly...mabey they could have explained the 2012 things was just something they didn't fill the calander in, instead of " ze ending of ze vurld!!!"
@gaoth88 Well actually, the Mesoamerican religions are not entirely gone. There are many rural areas in southern Mexico and other Latin American countries where worship of the old gods is still practiced. The people in some of these villages will literally attend mass in church on Sunday and afterwards go up into the mountains and sacrifice some chickens to the old gods.
@gaoth88 As far as the 2012 thing goes, there is actually only one reference to that date in all known Mayan archaeology. It appears on a stella in some ruin and says only the date and something about "the nine gods will come." The popular doomsday prophecy of today, is actually based on the oral traditions of the living Mayan people who still inhabit the Yucatan peninsula. But according to those people, the world is not going to come to an end at all, but rather experience a 'new beginning.'
I would have preferred it if the Vikings conquered the Americas, Vikings vs Aztecs would make for an awesome fight, even if the aztecs didn't come until 400 or so years after the viking age ended...but if they had a big colonial empire; perhaps the vikings would have been able to resist christianization and remain a force to be reckoned with well into the renaissance?
Wanna know what made all of Cortez's ambition possible? Disease. Some estimates say that as much as 75-80% of Natives in both north and south America died from European disease before Cortez conquered Mexico. Europe's concious cruelty doesn't even compare, not that it wasn't terrible.

@ShotGreg I know that Aztecs were sometimes cruel, and Cortez ended their 'triple-allied' tyranny. But Aztec culture was very good, and nice too. I just said that because after hearing to the track I felt like I am a native American.
@Priyo866 They lived in a hostile environment. I don't believe they were any more cruel than any other early civilisation in conditions similar to theirs. There's much to admire, and much to despise about most cultures.
@Priyo866 Cruel with sarifices you do know that the aztec people that were sarifice willing want to be sarifice. Not only that but they saw the sacrificees as a messenger of the gods. not only that but their way of think realistically made sense. If god died to give you life doesn't it make sense to show how much you love and appreciated such a thing my giving you life back to him. Seeing as only life can equal life. So in that mind set the greatest thing you could give anyone is your life.
@goku21060 Well at the time I suppose that type of thinking was making some sense. But I find the fact that god appreciates all life more to my favor.
@ShotGreg I don't disagree, just saying we should act like the spanards just because we don't take the time to think about it :). Plus I always thought it was amazing to see that their were easy will to give so much to god. If you compare that to the people of today, its embarassing really :(
@ShotGreg Don't make me laugh. So genocide is justified? Specially when back in your land the burning of your own innocents alive is commonplace, as well as consuming human parts and mummy dust because yeah, that's a real medicine? They didn't eat the hearts by the way.
@Priyo866 Cortez was an opportunistic bastard wich replaced the greatest city in the world with his miserable Baroque and new, worse kinds of bloodshed.
@Priyo866 Far from the only reason, my friend. Not only the city, but the civilization itself, crumbled by his treachery, among other causes. The Tlaxcallans , his crucial tool for conquest, had to pay a terrible price for their vengeance against the Aztecs, guess why. Not to mention all of the Aztec subject peoples. People compare the Triple Alliance with a tyranny. Compare the situation of their subjects before and after the Spaniards. When are they truly enslaved? When are they dehumanized?
@Priyo866 The Incas as well as most major american civilizations, some having less luck than others. Minor realms were just slaughtered and/or enslaved right away, in the case of Spaniard treatment at least.
This has always been my favorite music from M2TW. It's a shame you rarely hear it in game though. Only when fighting in the Americas, and even then it's just mobilize music, so when you start fighting it goes away, and there are still two other mobilize songs which could play. When I get the chance to hear it in game, I usually try to get it to play to the end.
I swear, this music played every single time I sieged a town/city with my cannons in the America's campaign. Every time I hear it, cannon blasts go off in my mind. And the collapsing of walls. And dead men.
