  • Great review snowcon3! I'm going to purchase this game when I find it.

  • Have you ever played the PCE version of this game, known as Tatsujin? I was just wondering how both versions compare.

  • @Chantumon I have as a matter of fact and it's MUCH more arcade accurate, though it's borderline impossible. The other problem with the PCE version is the price tag associated with it. The cheapest I've ever seen a copy of it run was about $70-80!

To be honest, I still prefer the Genesis version. It's much more enjoyable.

  • I was just reminiscing about old shooters and stumbled upon this. I lost my cartridge many years ago but i remember how asskickingly awesome it was. As for underwhelming; whatever ! When I was 6 graphics and sound like this were absolutely amazing. Remember the TwinBee graphics? Gunsmoke? This game totally trumps those (but i still own and adore them) Maybe its just my preference for the more sci-fi driven games.

Anywho, I would find you doing reviews of retro games lol. Great vids/reviews!

  • @earphoria Agreed dude! Well, I guess it was a bit different for me since I was a bit older back then, and was also playing a lot of TG16 at the time too. :D

    Oh, and Gun.Smoke RULES!

  • Did it ever get a relese on one of the later consols?

    MVHH

  • @HarriHaffi I'm not sure. I'll have to check the Virtual Console on the Wii, though I'm pretty sure it's not up there.

  • Great review! Another great shooter on the Genesis with amazing graphics, music and very hard gameplay is Gaiares. If you can, please review this gem.

  • Truxton + Fire Shark (You didn't mention Fire Shark!) = Toaplan's best on the Genesis.

Only MUSHA, Gaiares and the Thunder Force games are as good. And a few of the Japan only games...

Damn there's just too many awesome shooters on this console.

MUSHA and Lightening Force are the really rockin' soundtracks though, Truxton's music is pretty catchy and memorable but it lacks the OOMPH of those.

  • @Obviously I haven't played FIre Shark in a REALLY long time and I always forget about it. Thanks for reminding me though; time to pick one up on the 'Bay.

Oh and I actually prefer TF3's soundtrack to LF. Lightening Force just aggravates the hell out of me so damn much!

  • oh snap you has an intro! i admire that you continue to strive to make your show better everytime. great work!

  • @humanisfood Thanks man! Yeah, it's an ongoing thing working on these videos...

  • Excellent review, Bracey! The intro was awesome! I've never played Truxton but have heard great things about it. LOL @ 1:16! That's exactly how I feel when I play a frustrating game. Glad to hear it's got a great soundtrack. That's a cool tip about pausing the game after dropping a bomb. I didn't realize it can be had for $10. I'll definitely have to add it to my collection.

  • @johnnyjohnson Funny thing is, a friend of mine is now talking about getting that bomb-skull thing as a tattoo! If you're into shooters, you'll love Truxton. Do yourself a favor and grab MUSHA, Truxton, Thunder Force, Wings of Wor, and Lightening Force. All of those are excellent! If I run across any dupes of those I'll definitely let you know!

  • @snowcon3 Thanks! I appreciate it! MUSHA would probably be the only game I would have trouble finding for a reasonable price.

  • @johnnyjohnson It's not as bad as it used to be. I got mine for about $45 I think and it was worth every penny! You may spend a couple bucks more than normal on it, but it really is one of the best Genesis games of all time.

  • I want a tattoo of the bomb animation on my arm. I am dead serious :)

  • @Soukyugurentai That's a seriously awesome idea.

  • Good review. I own this game and I consider myself pretty good at shmups, but this game just hands me my ass. One day I'll beat it (I keep telling myself this). However this soundtrack has nothing on MUSHA's!! Great tunes for an early Genny game regardless.

  • @SpiffyBiscuits5 I have to agree with you there. MUSHA has easily some of the best music on ANY Genesis game.

  • I'm gonna be completely honest snow. I really love your reviews, and You're one of the best (Albeit one of the most un-noticed) Reviewers IMO. Please, PLEASE. PALEEEZE. Don't turn yourself into that "angry-Shit game reviewing-AVGN-Style Reviewer" Not saying you are, i just see a few signs, like that unnecessary "Oh Come on!" Near the beginning.

Again, Snow,, Not being a dick, but i'm a huge fan and i think that that type of review has been done WAY WAY WAY too much.

    Thanks man, Good review.

  • @Jakeallen86 In all seriousness Jake, I can assure you that would never happen. It's kind of a funny thing how James almost seems to have trademarked anger these days...

I'm comfortable with what I do and how I do it, and I just try to be myself in the videos as much as I can. I do get frustrated with games too frequently (haha) and I just kind of wanted to show that here. The world has enough AVGN and I don't want to be the next one. Thanks for watching and for the shout on your channel.

  • ha ha, you said you required balls.

This is what I love about retro gaming, You can always find an interesting game you never played.

    Great review.

  • @16bitghost I have balls, just not the kind that Truxton requires. LOL

  • Hey, nice intro =)

I suck at shooters, I'm tempted to play it....

  • awsome review man, i just included truxton in my 5 games i could play forever video, i love this game it never gets old. The hardest difficulty is way crazy i go with normal mode. great review and take care man

  • @spundy08 Gracias! You know, after thinking about it, I could probably include Truxton in that list as well. Gotta have MUSHA in there though!

  • I was actually pretty partial to zero wing for it's soundtrack it has alot of the same characteristics as truxton like flat or shallow artwork. It's like they knew how to make artwork but didn't understand things like depth or animation. often it's just the flicker of flames from the enemies jets.

Eiother way I really liked this review and I'll take your advise about power ups, speed and that cool bomb trick. I like the idea of reviews offering strategies to help explain the game.

  • @fakeplasticball Thanks dude! I usually try to put in something like that if it makes the game better in some way or more enjoyable. You're right about Zero Wing. I never thought to really compare them but they DO have some similarities. It's a shame that more devs didn't follow Tecnosoft's awesome example. Look at TF3 and LF!

  • Like girls in black leather this is a good type of torture.

  • @starsoldier1 Hahaha

  • @starsoldier1

    Hell yeah lol

  • Truxton!!! Hellz Yeahz!! Most people have never even heard of this game...I have...and it's freakin ridiculous brutal!! Great little Shmup gem on the Genesis. Awesome review bro! Really like the show Intro too :)

  • @stratamaster78 Thank as always Heath. I tried playing the PC Engine version of the game yesterday and HOLY CRAP. I couldn't get past about 30 seconds in!

  • Another very nice review, with the exception of the bomb pause trick. :P

I agree about the music on the 4th and 5th stages, which are plain awesome. However, I think Truxton is a lot harder than Lightening Force / Thunder Force IV. And it's weird to say this, but in time I've come to appreciate it more than MUSHA....

  • @KollisionBR It's weird how people gauge the difficulty. I personally find LF hard as nails, but can get through Truxton fairly easy. It's like if you're good at one, you suck at the other. Haha!

As far as appreciating it more than MUSHA, I can buy that. I personally think that MUSHA is easily the best game on the Genesis period, but Truxton has a lot to offer.

  • Never played this one. Honestly never heard of it which is odd since I enjoy shmups so much. Will be looking out for a copy.

Excellent review!.. cool new intro as well

  • @NEScapades Thanks man. I don't know what it is... shmups and beat-em-ups. They just sort of run my life.

  • @snowcon3 2D platformers and beat-em-ups run mine.. with shmups taking the bronze. =P

I've always liked vertical ones a bit more than the others which makes this game that much more appealing.

  • @NEScapades Tell me you own MUSHA. :D

  • @snowcon3 I only wish bro.. Compile games are worse than trying to get Ikaruga. I will most likely end up getting the virtual console version sometime.

The only Aleste games I have are Robo Aleste (SCD) & Power Strike (SMS)

  • @NEScapades Funny enough, I need the Sega CD sequel. MUSHA isn't all THAT expensive. You can get cart only pretty regularly for around $45 or so these days, and it's worth EVERY penny! I consider MUSHA the best game on the Genesis next to Strider.

  • I didn't own a genesis around the time this game came out. But you pretty much nailed everything I thought on the initial impressions of the game. Not sure if I'd currently put it at the top of the list of retro games to complete though.

    Great review.

  • @AxeBlack84 Thanks for watching Axe! I haven't seen you around in a bit; how are you doin?

  • @snowcon3

Hey , Yea just was busy with life etc. You know how it is, especially if you have a lady friend heh.

  • great review i actually dont have this game but i have played it. looks liike ill be making a stop down at my local game store to try and get a copy. great review Bracey. BGR

  • @iowerth1 Thanks Blake! Yeah man, this game kicks all kinds of ass. Seriously, no ass out there could escape the furious kicking that Truxton dishes out.

    Well, except maybe MUSHA.

  • @snowcon3 lolz i gotta get it now
