I found a glitch in that level--at the beginning of the level, climb up the ropes, then jump off them off to the left, back toward the start of the level. DO NOT hold the jump button, let go of it. The character falls faster than the screen, and when he goes below the bottom of it, the game thinks he fell off of the level and you lose a life. Holding the jump button protects you by making you fall with the bottom of the screen.

I first played Donkey Kong Land, and then Donkey Kong Country. When I got SSBB, I recognized it as the ship level from Donkey Kong Land at least for the beginning part.
