He's only raising them by 3% so if you can't afford 3 cent on the dollar then you most likely wouldn't be in that tax bracket! Reagan cut taxes from 70 to 50 % then to 28%; while the corporate tax rate went to 35% (You know the number you pretend Obama wanted and which was in reality, 39% ) Affordability has nothing to do with your tax bracket. Now at that rate Joe is paying over $97000 off the top. We wont even mention state taxes, insurance, supplies, salaries, mortgage etc. 3% on the dollar may not sound like a lot, but it may make a huge difference in what he ACTUALLY takes home.

Being in the highest tax bracket of 39 percent does not mean a taxpayer will pay 39 percent of his/her income to the government. Instead, he or she will pay an amount based on the portion of his/her income in each tax bracket up to total income.

All that stuff you just mentioned (salaries, supplies etc) is a tax deduction, not a tax liability. Tax is paid on profits, so it is only what is left over after all the company expenses have been paid (including his own personal wage, depending on the business structure).

He's only raising them by 3% so if you can't afford 3 cent on the dollar then you most likely wouldn't be in that tax bracket! Furthermore, the tax rate under Ike was 91%, under Reagan 50% Obama want's it at 35%. I'm sure they'll be ok!

Reagan cut taxes from 70 to 50 % then to 28%; while the corporate tax rate went to 35% (You know the number you pretend Obama wanted and which was in reality, 39% ) Affordability has nothing to do with your tax bracket. Now at that rate Joe is paying over $97000 off the top. We wont even mention state taxes, insurance, supplies, salaries, mortgage etc. 3% on the dollar may not sound like a lot, but it may make a huge difference in what he ACTUALLY takes home.

Being in the highest tax bracket of 39 percent does not mean a taxpayer will pay 39 percent of his/her income to the government. Instead, he or she will pay an amount based on the portion of his/her income in each tax bracket up to total income.
0 TO 50,000/15%
50,001 TO 75,000/25%
75,001 TO 100,000/34%
100,001 TO 335,000/39%

Secondly, Yes, Reagan lowered the tax rate to 28% however the taxable income went down to 30,950 which means that they paid more taxes under Reagan than they would under Obama if he does let the Bush tax cuts expire because the taxable income is 250,000.

All that stuff you just mentioned (salaries, supplies etc) is a tax deduction, not a tax liability. Tax is paid on profits, so it is only what is left over after all the company expenses have been paid (including his own personal wage, depending on the business structure).
RE Reagan, he was no economic prodigy. We increased national debt, and never delivered a budget surplus. In fact, the last Republican to deliver a surplus was Nixon, in the early years.

Now if the numbers were wrong, please provide accurate ones. Similarly, rate reductions is partly about increasing revenue. Before Reagan

I am not disagreeing with you about the Reagan era INCOME tax decreases, but as for corporate taxes, he implemented the biggest increase since WWII.
For Income taxes, what I am saying is that it was irresponsible, as the country could not afford it, which is why he was never able to deliver a budget surplus. All the tax decreases were financed by borrowing money (ie, rob from the kids and hand it to the adults). Then there is the matter of the Recession he presided over.

@bigredtaxi It's absurd to say tax cuts prevented a surplus.There were other factors involved. 1.) Reagan rebuilt the military 2.) Congress, not the president spends money. As to afforability the question is what causes revenue to increase, higher tax rates or lower ones. The " Recession he presided over" resulted from breaking the 70s stagflation. Amazing how folks live by the party line. Never daring to think on their own.

First you must show revenue was decreased as a result of tax rate reductions and show reduced rates didn't spur economic growth. As to party line. It means you ignore things like automatic spending increases, that congress does the spending not the president to make your argument as if tax rates were the only thing affecting the budget.

Money is and was borrowed for both. As for tax cuts, it made no worthwhile impact on productivity.
Also, in reality, congress is only there to approve spending, which is handed to them by government (often after the money has already been committed anyway).
Congress could theoretically refuse to pass spending, but doing so on a large scale often has severe consequences.

You don't know his bottom line. It doesn't matter if you make $1 million dollars if you're spending $999,999 to make it. You've obviously never owned a business, or had to worry about payroll for employees.
$250k is not take home pay... and 3% for many businesses = firing one or more employees. Multiply that times the 20 million small businesses in this country that employ the vast majority of the working population and you have a major problem. But who care's right? It's not your money.

Let me explain this to you, because you've obviously never had to make payroll for anyone. $250k buys a small resale business their inventory, their rent, and their health insurance for about 1 employee... maybe 2 (like a seasonal holiday employee), and just enough left over to pay your own bills. These taxes will have consequences.

You act like its a tax on the businesses which can write off all the payroll and expenses(known as deductions). The tax is on profit, the CEO or business owners profit. You can skew it to look like its a tax on doing business. If people can't see through that, they can't be helped.
Besides, the first $250,000 would stay at the same tax rate. It goes up in tiers from there. Idea is to let Bush's CEO tax cut end.
