I like your honesty as I am a newbie myself. I found a 1927 4DR. Model T, touring body ,grill,fenders etc.for $500.Thought drop on my $500 1985 LWB S10 frame,then bag it= poof done! After researching,found out the "cheap rat build" was NOT so CHEAP. Frame wouldn't work and I don;t know shiz about all mechanics needed for a project that big,the space needed,safety items for old car to pass inspection,and the money involved is WAY over $1k (even for a crap-rod).

Fellow rodder,hate to ruin your money plans buy no way will1.5 k build a SAFE ROD i.e. will not expode ,will stop reasonably quick, good tires,seat with a floor and tunnel that the broken driveshaft from the burnout won't break your legs in 14 places ! The 3 to 5 k is more like it. Building one myself , figured 2.5 k begged borrowed and stole and there is no way it's getting done for that , at least to be a sorta safe driver. Axles drilled ,driveshafts shortened, tranny adapters kill the budget!

@jzero32 Well,if you are starting from scratch that might be true but he stated he already has tons of parts to start out with. Only he knows what all he has right now so I guess that makes it a little hard for others to decide how much he needs to invest in his project. Stop trying to discourage people. Everyone is always trying to rain on everyones parade and they did it to me too. I have one of the coolest rat rods around and have a total of 2g's in it and drive it every day!

cool project...My favorite quads from the late 60's to early 70's have a triangle shaped tab locked over the front bowel vent(or it may be missing)this tab covers a screw behind the vent bowel that is an air bleed for the mid part throttle circuit(idle transfer slots). it gives a bit of adjustment just between the idle and the main metering circuit without modding the carb. in newer carbs it is capped over and later yet replaced by a solenoid

Would be sick with an olds 455.  Instead of chopping it a ton I would section the body or channel it. Personally I think a smaller chop and a 3 or so inch channel would look lKiller on that cab. would really give it that hot rod mean look. Neat project and I can defiantly see the draw to more traditional hot rod building.

hey, on your suspension... use a strut rod and bracket off of a ford or chrysler suspension. a half ton ford would be the best... run the threaded end out of your arms and put the bracket on your frame you'll have rubber bushings so it will be flexible as needed, quiet and maintenance free.

you will need heim joints on the rear but just to let ya know you will also have to install a pan hard bar because the heim joints will let your rearend also move left to right as well as up and down. to prevent this just run a bar off the side of your frame to the center of your hog head. i still need to build one for my car or i would just tell you to look at my video.. but yeah just thought this might help ya out.
