@ultimatesquirllboy You find mob spawners in cave systems, you can break them, but you can't obtain them, the only way to get 1 in your inventory is using Inv-Edit, but those only spawn pigs.

GUYS if you want to have them actually drown make the drowning area another layer down (so the drowning area is 3 layers down rather than 2)

and just make everything else an extra layer down

Your spawn block has no spider/zombie in it. it spawns creepers. where did you found that block? could you pls upload your savegame somewhere

@TheAusieBloke stick some ladders above the water line, then pour some lava a couple of blocks back over the ladders, the ladders will stop the lava from falling and it will kill the mobs as they jump, easy fix :)

@TheAusieBloke Shouldnt do so long as you have the lava high enough, you should have the ladders above the water so there is a one block gap between the water line and the lava, items always spawn at the bottom block

Besides that, ONLY spiders spawn there for some reason :| and I do not really need string, plus they always climb up the walls and it takes ages for them to die anyway (maybe the reason why their items get destroyed because they "climb up" in the lava block -.-)

To fix your drops getting destroyed, put a glass roof above the lava, and just above the ladders, found that out myself, stopped them climbing them.

@TheAusieBloke so I have the lava flowing for 3 blocks, the third block is the right-above-the-ladder-block.. and I replace this third lava-flow-block-above-the-ladd­er with glass?

I just found it really stupid they climbed up the wall and got stuck there.. I don't even want to "farm" spiders (since their items are useless, aren't they?)
