  • I think perhaps they underestimated how rare it is to see a band being totally honest with an audience and honestly expressing themselves, if in fact that is what they were doing. The audience was bound to react, forced to react, perhaps in due to their inexperience in being presented with honest self expression b4 they did not know how to react. Thus, they reacted only in ways they had before. When you are forced to flee, do you run down roads you've never gone down b4? Do you stand still?

  • john is so fucking high lol

  • John Lydon is a Legend, there should be more people like him

  • Why do you do interviews, Johnny? You're such a donkey's ballsack.

  • This is the reason I hated the Sex Pistols.

The music was okay, a bit overrated in my opinion but hey where absolute dick heads.

The Ramones, the Circle Jerks, the Stooges, the Dead Kennedy's all got there message across without sounding like petulant children.

For christ sakes, Iggy Pop loved getting interviewed.

  • @rrtodd95

    no one gives a fuck

  • @rrtodd95

John Lydon isn't Iggy Pop. He's called Johnny Rotten for a reason.

  • @riotriotupstart Iggy Pop is still relevant though, Johnny Rotten is a heard on oldies stations now.

  • reminds me of two 13 year olds explaining themselves to a principal

  • "Excuse me for talking while you were interrupting." Tom Snyder had more PUNK in that phrase than Johnny Lydon had in his lifetime.

  • john is a fucking legend is there anyone that has managed to piss of as many people as lydon has?

  • 3.36..he's talking about mclaren :)

  • snotty brats bathing in their own spitel. Bloody glorious.

  • cringe tastic mate!

  • fucking doo dah !!!

  • shut you're fucking mouth, prick !!!

  • John speaking the truth at 02:40

  • God, all these haters are unbareble.

  • love how they're all smoking

  • Lydon being a smug dickhead for his own amusement, pissed off that punk never amounted to shit other than burned out junkies that never learned to play.

  • @StoneyMcJuicyBuds Yes he's being a smug dickhead for HIS amusement. But seriously had an impact on punk and POST punk music/imagery

  • lol, i think snyder is more stupid then johnny is brillant

  • Johnny is no better than the lot of us. He is merely more superior in logic and intellict.

  • I didn' know Julian Assange was in P.I.L.

  • DRUGS ARE BAD!!!

  • κοκκαλο τα παλικαρια :D

  • This interview is brought to you by smooth, cool taste of crystal meth.

  • "history does not matter" - John Lydon.

what a fucking ass hat. I get the anger at all the stadium rock going on, but SO many other musicians did exactly what he's talking about doing before, during and after he supposedly "tried to break down the barrier between audience and performer" , only they succeeded.

  • John: "A concept these days is a bunch of gits on a stage with all these idiots down in the pits, worshipping them - thinking they're heroes. There should be no difference between who's on stage and who's in the audience. And we've tried very hard to break down those barriers, but it's not working! So we have to think again So in the meantime, we'll put our attentions somewhere else."

  • Sometimes I wish the 3rd Reich had concentrated on one opponent at a time.

  • 3:12 to 3:27 why would john call people who support rock animals.

  • @martianrum He didn't say that. He said that people only care about "image."

  • these dudes they are just tring to do something we dont know because we are animals things like geting people angry showing them that things are relevant ect oh and its a contradiction going in circles when you say theyre so good my opinion theyre just people like anyone that thnk difrent and is contradictory writing this but i think is fun so ill doit anyways hahhaha if you dont like it mamame el wevo hahahaha

  • i wonder what kind of drugs they're using?

  • @reNhusky speed

  • @reNhusky Keith Levine... not sure he's on drugs. But John Lydon... definitely METH.

  • these dudes are creepy mother fuckers. lol but I'm drawn to them for some reason.

  • These two are one short step this side of brain dead, they're clinging to reality.

  • We're a company, simple... nothing to do with rock and roll.. doo dah

  • levene is an artist. lydon as usual seems like he's trying too hard

  • @zazfilm ahahah lydon he is a punk we all know that, and he is a rotten artist lol

  • It looks as if someone behind Snyder did something to make Lydon smile/laugh. In any event it's so sweet, 1:50!

  • Hypocrite phonies.. If they are so anti establishment, why are they there? He asks about their company and they insult everyone and run down the music that made them and was supposed to be their creation. They say don't talk about music and then that is all they talk about.

  • @mvies77 guess u missed the point. Sorry

  • Johnny was always a pouting little boy who fancied himself an intellectual. Losers with no talent. The Stooges did it all. The Pistols and Johnny Hair-do were merely a pathetic sideshow.

  • Lydon was a spoiled brat who later showed his true colors with his filthy lucre tour in the 90s.

  • HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Great new band out the cundeez have released new music video Yir Talking Shite give it a listen thanks youtube.com/watch?v=Q0-94s4NFBw

  • Props to Snyder for keeping his composure. Still pressing after getting shit answers.

  • @nlo13 - Snyder and Lydon did another interview in 1997 and tey get on much better now.

  • Frauds !!!! Lol

  • Heroin?

  • We ain't no band.

  • Also, Snyder's got rapier wit that Lydon's IQ could barely compete with.

  • This guy's a dick. A DICK. Do you hear me? Tom Snyder's a fairly amicable man who was happy to put new bands on his show, like the Clash (check that interview out, it's great) and Lydon won't take off his "Idgaf" attitude. It's infuriating.

  • "Senile animals" -- that's awesome!

  • I hate punk now -.- gezz stupid greenday.

  • It´s interesting that John says that Rock´n´roll is "as advanced as it could possbily get", when he sparked some of the bands that truly changed rock´n´roll and advanced it if you will.

  • poseur

  • funny how things have changed smoking on tv damn you would be shot for that today

  • fucking ass holes the pair of them

  • he's so cute *-* he's so CUTE

  • What an anally retentive bore is that Tom Snyder. He should simply have played along rather than harping on the band/company issue and ask some more interesting questions, such as:

-What is the message your company is promoting? Who's the client, and soforth.

Clearly an idiot to fall for that generation gap thing and be all stunned with incomprehension and irritation like some old narcissistic bore.

  • Its seems like John is rude to almost any interviewer, i know he's at least speaking his mind, but if he is so annoyed with interviewers, why agree to do them, unless the record company wants them to or as self-promotion. Id rather here what Keith Levene had to say, at least he was more respectful

  • I find Johnny Rotten strangely attractive ;)

  • @ZukuRiot are you a dude? weird... me too.

  • Snyder at 1:57 Priceless

  • Rotten at 1:50. Brilliant!!!

  • If they were so anti-establishment why would they even go on TV to promote themselves? What a farce.

  • @999Atwood And smoke a cigarette.... one of the most evil corporate entities of all time.....

  • @chinary8 Yep...hypocrites.

  • Come on. This is what these guys were about. Anarchy, F the man and establishment. Plus they were young, cocky and full of ego. It seems irritating now but in some way we were all like this when we were young

  • John > Sid sorry

  • @ItsAboutGreatButter Nice name lol

  • @Donutsmasher1 haha thanks!

  • I think John was depressed that time because his buddy/ band mate from SP died a year ago before this interview was taped.

  • @loumikepogi You mean Sid? John admitted that it took years before he truly felt bad about the death of his friend. Sid was depressive and addicted to too many substances (+ he dated Nancy = worst influence ever) It could not have ended any other way. Rotten almost expected it... or that's what he said : /

  • sorrily mistaken u sad skcufs.

  • Not encouraging Johnny's behaviour.. But the history of interviews before this interview, Johnny's interviews haven't ended with the interviewer.. lets say.. happy with his lip. Johnny's done this for years & should be expected to be quite a good arguement, The questions Tom asks him like 'Do you bring instruments to it?' is extremely.. Stupid, Johnny's trying to pull his string & this interview he certainly did! :P Johnny ftw

  • Sarcastic dick and a prick. He tried to hard to be both and it got old real fast.

  • The interviewer is fucking twat!!

Why the fuck he answers if public image ltd is a company??

He don't know who hi is interviewing???

    What a stupid! :/

  • @santuka18 He's interviewing a scumbag. And my favorite line from him is when he says, "It's a shame the rest of the world is too stupid to understand you."

  • I like how Snyder pretends to act interested.... he just wants the interview done and over with so he can go on with his life.

  • isn't that reporter the one who interviewed charles manson one time?

  • 1:49 epic

  • LET ME PUT IT TO YOU THIS WAY 'JOHNNY'... WHEN I PUT WINTERLAND ON THE OTHER DAY MY PITBULL WOKE UP AND BIT ME!! ITS ALL ABOUT SID, GET OVER IT!!!!

  • LOL Rotten was rude as fuck but he says some intelligent things like how there should be no difference between the band on stage and the audience.

Keith Levene looked fucked up on dope in this interview, lmao.

  • useless puppet guy

  • DUDE THAT ONE PUNK WITH THE DARK HAIR IS SUCH AN ASSHOLE

  • Tom Snyder clearly had no clue about his subject, Jonh Lydon. Do your homework next time Tom.

  • Lydon is obviously hungover. Look at his eyes.

  • "History does not matter...." just an amazing quote.

  • that old grandpha just don`t get what johnny is all about :D and for some reason Keith Levene reminds me of twilight :O

  • Snyder's a great sport, kept pressing on.

  • Nothing to do with rock 'n roll....... do dah.

  • Those two have lost the plot, after this interview its a shame anyone bought another PIL record.

  • On top of all this he talks about hating the Sex Pistols and yet he hails them as this phenomenon and basks in the fact he was Johnny Rotten. The man is not intelligent, nor is he talented, nor CAN he justify any of his actions. For instance David Lee Roth is a womanizing cokehead asshole and he knows it he doesn't ever live that down. Lydon doesn't ever believe what he does or says is fucked up or rude he feels everyone else is! I really wanna see an interviewer call him out or fuck him up.

  • Johnny Rotten has nothing valuable to say ever. He agrees to do these interviews with these people and just acts like an asshole to them, not even in a sarcastic or humorous way, just a rude way. If I were Tom Snyder I'd be like get the fuck off my show or I'll kick your fucking ass! He might be getting paid either way, but I wouldn't stand there and be insulted by a fucking pretentious MORON like Lydon. The man is trying to do his god damn job and Lydon acts like the rock stars he hates so much

  • i like how people say he's a douche, lol this is obviously the impression he wants to give the interviewer, ive seen him give straight up interviews as well as do this and even get pissed, i think its great. he makes a good point about alot of the music of the time, people always say "man music was sooo much better during__, i wish i could live back then" No, it wasnt lol. the 70's had a lot of shitty bands... you have to look to find the good shit, sumtimes its mainstream usually not tho

  • @ 3:27 was that not the image that Mclarenn gave them ?

  • the interviewer is a asshole and i would fucking walk off

  • @Alithecomedian I do not think so, i think Rotten and Levene are behaving like a pair of Prima Donnas. They are forgetting who put them there and who has paid the bills. All the people who paid to see them, those two at this time needed a size 10 up the butt.

  • Lydon acts like a 15 year old. Fuckin' knob.

  • You can get the Johnny out of punk, but apparently you can't get the punk out of the Johnny...

  • Got to love his interviews. I love his sense of humor.

  • Fave bit "companies can mess around with instruments" laughed so hard XD

  • Lydon is an obnoxious c**T!

  • What a schmuck

  • The first question is possibly the most retarded question I've ever heard an interviewer ask.

  • doo dah

  • John is a really intriguing person, I adore him.

  • John Lydon is such a fucking douchebag.

  • @JPFrosties and so are you

  • Snyder is a cock i hate him and his interview with charles manson sucks balls

  • Lydon is a prick tbh

  • They look's like zombies

  • He looks just like Daniel Johns from Silverchair!

  • "Unless we remember our yesterdays, there will be no tomorrows."

This is honestly hilarious! Love it!

  • Wow. Lydon really is a wanker.

  • I didn't realize Jullian Assange use to dabble in the music industry

  • @eronmccool Man I bustin a gut! Thats the first thing I thought!

  • @eronmccool how the hell do you think wikileaks is so damn punkrock-or,um-postpunkrock

  • @eronmccool Hahaha, I don't know if it's because I'm sick, but everything makes me laugh. Johnny's face, your comment..

  • @eronmccool Keith Levene's real first name is Julian

  • Tom Snyder is an unbearable, self-absorbed ass who can always be counted on to avoid interesting lines of discussion. He stumbles onto one around 3:00--notice how Lydon actually opens up and starts talking--and then immediately steers away into trivial pomposity again.

This is exactly why Lydon is such a snotty asshole. If anyone deserves this kind of treatment, it's Snyder.

  • keith levene is jonesing here, he needs the HORSE!

  • John Lydon is a total prick...if you saw an unfamous person acting like that you would immediately hate him..which i know do..and Keith Levene is a pompous ass..

  • they wrte collective Johnny Rottnes, the other vbloke, too, Stever Leviathan, nasty blokish n short, thank god theyb were out of theoir depth on drugs, they wheeled out the comb over king to confronty a pair of numptys from england, thje chinese hoards are quaking in their booots, before theye just take over the world.

para 2.1.4 They were exceptoiuonally incrediblke that's why therses no canned laughter on this except America toook it in its stride

  • John, you're the best. you make dickery look good, which IS a feat.

  • This is expert trolling!

  • "I wondered when you'd get round to that". What the fuck does the snotty little tosser expect to be asked about? He should be thanking God every day he got any kind of platform for his outrageous delusions of grandeur. Sex Pistols were just the Take That of their time. Another shitty little manufactured boy band. It amazes me that people can watch this and find anything good to say about the stupid little cunt.

  • @NUMBERONETANARNOID I was wondering the same thing, why is he so irritated that he was asked about the Sex Pistols? It reminded me of Billy Bob Thornton's infamous interview where he got pissed off for being mentioned as an actor.

  • @redlightmax I think this video shows what happens when someone of very limited intelligence has 'got lucky' and started to believe all the sycophantic praise he would have been getting. Shouldn't be too nasty about johnny rotten i suppose cos he actually seems quite mentally ill here. I'm really surprised that the whole 'punk' thing hasn't been more widely recognised as the empty headed crock of shit it actually was.

  • @redlightmax because it's a personality cult, because it's how the industry works; it's not about what you actually do, it's about who you are and what you have done in the past and creating a media spectacle.

that and probably being heard the same question a million times before

  • @redlightmax its like he said,, its history, why talk about the pistols when hes now with pil

  • @redlightmax

How would you feel if you were a part of a band that did not exist anymore, and you were there to talk about the new things you were doing, and all the interviewer wanted to talk about was the past?

Also, there was a lot of bad blood between John Lydon and ex-Sex Pistols manager Malcolm Mclaren.

  • @froggy556 "...all the interviewer wanted to talk about was the past?"

To be fair to Tom Snyder, he didn't even mention the Sex Pistols until 3:09 - does that sound like someone who only wants to talk about the past?

Artists are asked about former bands all the time no matter what new material they're promoting - e.g. Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Stevie Nicks - and I don't hear them complaining.

Bad blood? Big deal. Lydon's just being a whiny little shit, or at least pretending to be.

  • @redlightmax I think it could be because John didnt want to be assosciated with The Sex Pistols, due to some of the members.

  • I wish everyone in the world would have johnny's attitude. Just not caring about jackasses and doin what you want, that's the way to be.

  • lmao!

"I wondered when you'd get right into that one"

  • ●911 Inside Job and Hereafter (Modified) by richardkoshimz

  • john, what a cunt

  • @punkhippe he still is

  • Hahaha, I love when John puts on that fake posh accent, when he's trying to emphysis.

  • People can say what they want about John but he is as sharp as a razor.

  • he hates tom snyder

  • i love Johnnys manic smile

  • It's so funny...... the reason Tom is getting pissed off is because he doesn't understand what John is trying to say. His confusion is leading to anger. Ha ha ha.

  • @Flipper79able that plus johnny is just grating his nerves on pupose

  • ...the thing that confuses me is that there was never a time that pop music wasn't about idols...but I suppose the point they are trying to make is that it is us the "banal sheep" that create the monsters we call rock stars...we don't have to buy the records, we don't have to listen to the interviews or read the magazines...yet the reality is that when they have become the lazy rich bloated egotists we so detest, we then start shouting that they have sold out!

  • GREAT

  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha - Johnny Johnny Johnny Boy ! ; Mr. Angry - "Do your business ; humour us" Lol, Priceless. Thing is that later on this John melts and shows that his bark is worse than his bite really

  • Johnny is a bit of a Lunny ant he

  • I can't help but imagine johnny's frustration with the idiot sat next to him and associated with him. I wonder why he would ever team up with someone so simple and yet still care to criticise the interviewer.

  • back in the days when smoking was legal....

  • if johnny felt that way about the sex pistols, i'm surprised he has gone back on tour with them since.

  • Happy Birthday Johnny Rotten!!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • They both look psycho. I love it ahah.

  • i guess rock n roll by the late 70s/early 80s was becoming too much like rnb these days. Wouldnt it have been more relevant of Rotten to trash disco for all it was worth instead?

  • I'm going to go ahead and say that Rotten comes across as rather foolish. He seems to think that the Pistols somehow finished all of Rock and Roll. Because it plays at airports, apparently it's dead. And history is irrelevant.

History is what prevents us from failing in the future. There would be no success without mistakes. And we learn mistakes from observing history.

The masses are not all "banal sheep". Each person has their own mind, own life, and makes their own choices.

  • @headphonic8 It's too long for the average Youtuber.

    XD

Some people ARE sheeplike. Certainly youngsters. Being one myself, I know that from experience.

  • @MetalHippiePunk Yes, younger people usually do tend to follow each other for guidance, since they grow tired of their parents' enforced rules, yet still lack the independence to do things entirely on their own.

  • @headphonic8 apparently each person does not have their own mind, take a look at the consumerism this country centers around. everyone follows the latest trend and finds something/one else to blame their mistakes on.

  • @woah909 What does consumerism have to do with blaming other people?

Actually, every country centers around consumerism. People consume. All animals consume. Now, it's a totally different thing if you're talking about the "banal sheep" of mainstream culture. That is not indicative of a person being stupid or unable to think for themselves. Like you said, they're just trends that fascinate people for a while before they die out. But people still make their own choices.

  • @headphonic8 what the fuck do you know asshole

  • @Alithecomedian That goes into a lot of depth.

  • Lydon was such a sarcastic dick... but a lovable one. :-) Love me some Black Rubber Bags.

Snyder was an absolute pro. He could've thrown his hands up, but he forged ahead and asked interesting, probing questions. Gotta hand it to the guy.

  • @BassByTheBay Snyder is either dumb as fuck or an provocative bureaucratic prick.

  • @BassByTheBay because the whole point was that they were bored with everything. if you don't know about them then the hell with you. it's how they worked. it wasn't polite, and that is how John saw it

  • @vincentpricesnephew Wha? Maybe you're responding to someone else cuz that doesn't even make sense in response to my comment. And, uh, yeah, I know about them -- did you miss the Black Rubber Bags comment? I'm a big PIL fan. But here's a question for you: if they were bored with everything, why bother appearing on a chat show? But that's beside the point which is that Snyder could've just said "F*** it", yet he turned it into an interesting interview.

  • Snyder's an asshole

  • how is Mr Snyder not shitting himself with fear???

  • I love how John Lydon is so sarcastic, when PiL is OBVIOUSLY a band.

  • interesting interview, if slightly pretentious on PiL's part. It seems like they're deliberately giving vague answers to some of Tom's questions to come off as profound and enigmatic when really it just seems like they have about as little a clue as to what they're on about as Tom does.
