OMG! I was in middle school 1981-1984 in Bronx, NY and we ALL had to learn this dance as part of GYM (didn't call it PE back then). I LOVED doing it! Most of these dance steps were the same but we did some of them different, wow the memories! lol
@SMC799 In San Francisco, 1972, our gym teacher taught us a dance to this song during a rainy day. We loved doing it also. Well, the girls did. Boys, not so much.
THIS MAKES ME PROUD TO BE A SOUTH AFRICAN STRUGGLING IN AMERICAS USELESS PUBLIC SCHOOLS,I MISS GOING TO PRIVATE SCHOOL IN SOUTH AFRICA, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, I HATE THE AMERICAN PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM................
I think this was actually the Pata - Pata Dance that I asked for help earlier remembering from the 70's - my former gym teacher - Ms. Gloria Lawyer taught us . I am so grateful for her & the late Miriam Makeba for this most delightful song that still gives me "goosebumps" to this day - I love it so much ! I must teach my grandbaby girl this dance & song !
Any dance has to be made easier for students. Its cool that these students are getting a little bit of another culture and are doing exercise at the same time. Be positive with the comments, these are kids, not professionals.
International Dance Festival?!?!?! WHAT NATIONALITY OF DANCE IS THIS?!?! Too bad they didn't get to learn an authentic dance from South Africa, to go with Miriam Makeba's song! When Africans dance, there is energy and spirit. These poor kids look sooooooooooo sad!
If your going to teach a kids dances from other cultures you probably should get some one of the culture to teach them and not add your own ish that you think they might have done....
How in t he hell did that poor teacher get every kid in that room to practice? I was a nanny for ten years and you don't just get a kids to do the same thing. There is always a few clowns who want to make the others laugh. Then that one who thinks that he is Eddie Murphy funny. The groaner. The moaner and the one who either can't or wont try to dance. Lol. I love them anyway because they put up with us. These kids are just adorable and obviously great troopers.
I did this dance when I was 13 in a play I was in. I love it! The way they're doing it is a little different from how we did it in the play. This version looks better.
I.S. 115 in the Bronx (NY) gym class @ 1975-77. I remember doing this then. Can't believe it's still being played. Love it! Brings back memories.
