I love playing with horses. It gives me a shiver of thrill down my spine when I see my grey pony, Beau (pronounce Bo), bucking and prancing beside me. He's not bucking AT me - I've never been hit and he's never aimed his hooves at me - it almost seems like he's bucking WITH me. He gallops across the field with me and when I stop, he stops. When I walk, he walks (or sometimes breaks into a gallop!).
The head tossing is from excitement. If those horses were worried they wouldn't be following her.
Well do realise these are arabs so by nature frisky and excitable. As to the method well it all depends on what you want horses for. We all use our horses for our own benefit and some will and others won't like our methods yet training goes from simple pleasure to the track.Tack no tack, whatever,I don't like equine sports, only horses and countryside yet others live from the track and don't think TB suffer a whim out there slaving for humans. We'll never agree on everything! just be good to him.
Nervous or excited?? IMO these horses are excited yes, but they are at liberty. They don't have to follow Carolyn but wish to do so. They are playing. there's nothing wrong with an excited horse to play. She is playing with him like horses play with one another. I love her method. Have been following it for 2 years now. You really understand the horse once you know her method.
@Elerian17 Yeah I agree, the head tossing and worried look shows that they're nervous, plus the tail swishing... my arab mare looks really calm when she follows me
"horses like routine" XD Gosh, Yes, the same as to say that ANY kid in ANY age likes ONLY ONE THE SAME GAME....
ALL healthy horses are EXTREMELY vivid, curious, clever, active and energetic,
So when you say horse is happy (probably in that "routine") what we really see is, in fact, a horse that is completely BORED and has no wish to display ANY emotions... be it any actve behaviour or sincere protest...
@fleur4198 I agree with you - the myth that the horses LIKE routine is just a rubish. The fact that horses have extremely good memory and get used to that some things come in the same order or at the same time and learn to await them, DOES NOT mean that they like it! Creativity and change (rationally), that is the most important in the training of horses, I think...
@Elerian17 totally agree with you :) but i think "horses like routine" is a little bit true in one thing - routine is good when you use always the same command, so the horse doesn't get confused. that's the only thing where you should have a routine.
if you do things always the same like do things in a same order the horses knows what comes next and will be even more confused if you do something else instead. it kinda desensitizes you horse if you change the way of doing things ;)
@Tia310 well, then you may call human languages a "routine" too... ;-) Of course that you cannot change the "words" by which you communicate with the horse. But there sholud be lot of change in the content of the work itself! To keep the horse attentive and enthusiastic... Nay? :)
@Elerian17 sure, that's what I meant. don't get me wrong but look at the first thing I wrote: "I totally agree with you" - And what you said: "But there sholud be lot of change in the content of the work itself! To keep the horse attentive and enthusiastic." is absoluteley how I think ;)
I fell in love with this woman when I read her book Naked Liberty!

I dont know, but the horses on the video seem extremely nervous and perplexed to me... Maybe they are problematic horses, but if they are not... :/
