@funkydrummer14 No, if you heard the original cut you wouldn't say that. This song is supposed to be a relaxed medium funk groove. This drummer sounds like he's playing Led Zep's Immigrant song.
Db ....Wow. Not a keyboard man's favorite neighborhood. Freddie King was who they all wanted to play and sing like. He was the man...and pretty cool and humble by all accounts.
I've heard him do this really uptempo, too, and it burns!
Living Blues magazine just did a tribute issue to blues drummers....if this is Will (Willie) Smith...they mentioned him. Said he has gone back to playing harmonica?
I play this song the same way; it's a fairly busy, funky drum part. I use less ride cymbal, but this dude is excellent...driving the band. This is a driving, funky song. And I love Big Legged Women!
No offense, but, as far as style and bump & grind insane drumming goes, I thought the drummer was fucking the shit (along w/the Great Freddie King and the rest of the band). peace. everyone has their own tastes. that's why Baskin Robbins offers 31 flavor's, n'est pas? peace. (they still do, don't they? or are they just sheepling-it with only "one-flavor-fits-all" cunt-shit, like all of you sheep wearing plaid shorts and wannabe ugly Betty glasses (I think she's fiiiiiiiiine!) for true.
@jeffroblueguitarman It's not too fast. Freddie, like most Blues players, always varied tempos, and this was funky, perfect. This is simply how they felt it on that performance. Lesson 1. Blues is a feeling, not an exact orchestration.
I love Freddie .. and this song! The drummer looks young and excited to play with the band. I cover this tune but not this good, you can see it on my channel. Freddie truely is the King.
@CosmicTraveler Not sure of the rest of the band but that's Deacon Jones on the organ. Saw him at Colne Blues Festival here in the UK a few years ago, played a dynamite set. With regard to the drummer, his playing is right for the song - it's a noisy, brash sound from the whole band, nice and busy, and it's his job to push the whole thing along with the busy, propulsive drumming he's doing. It fits perfectly.
Had the pleasure of seeing him several times in Big D brings back the memory

In my opinion, the drummer didn't play the drums, he just beat the hell out of 'em.

anyone know who the drummer is here?

The king of the Kings. Virtually every blues man to follow is just a pimple on his shadow.

The best version of the song I've seen, besides probably Tito Jackson's

he was/is a total cure for depression. You can't hear him play guitar without a big fat grin appearing. Soooo good. Thanks for putting this up.
