Of course, Paul could do things better, and this is not an example of good music he made, but is engaging, danceable and has a great pace. It's almost an Obla-di Obla-da. Worsened.
I can agree that most of Paul's re-recorded stuff for this movie isn't as good as the original. But they are still good. Paul is unable to make bad music, even when he tries!
Paul's father played in a band. He may have played in dance halls like the one in this video. Ballroom dancing was very popular during the decades after the WWII, in Britain and the states. Paul has done a couple of songs that pay homage to this time period in history. Now, that's what I'm thinking about when I hear this song.
I love how after all the craziness of the last couple minutes, and the entire dance room degenerating into a melee (and that blonde lady's got a hell of a right cross, doesn't she?) Paul's all,
i enjoyed this bit in the movie the most... overall the movie didnt stink. lots of good lil bits but as a whole .. too kaleidoscope-ish. some fun moments.. some cool musical moments and a real treat to see ringo. re-edit and a few overdubs scenes and it'd of worked better. oh well.. everyone has their limitations ..even the great sir paul.
@Alessana88 .... From the Movie.. "Give my Regards to Broad St" .... The legendary PAUL McARTNEY creats a musical fantasy about a pop singer/composer...well worth a look !!
man, this movie is great because it's a curious piece of McCartney history, and for the people who say it's cheezy, well, it's not ment to be taken seriously, it's a broadway. And if you're still pissed well, I can't help you. The soundtrack, is howerver very good.
@radlahore The movie was medicore overall but had some really great scense. This one included. Music was not bad. Not Such A Bad Boy and Ball Room Dancing I thought were good tunes. There are some really good Beatle covers as well.
I have the soundtrack to this movie because I liked the movie versions of this song and Wanderlust better than the Tug Of War versions. This song makes me want to get up and dance too.
Everyone's right! "Ballroom Dancing" and "Wanderlust" were originally released on "Tug of War". However, Paul wanted to include them in the 1984 film "Give My Regards to Broadstreet". So, he re-recorded it for "Give My Regards to Broadstreet". So, both of you are right. This video is simply an outtake from the film.:)
Sandy !! With your weird array of interests,I could have expected a much worse comment....Mmmmmm....Not enough "biologicaly visual whack" to stimulate you eh !!

This really was a low point for McCartney. The music in Broad Street was so mediocre. The best thing about the whole movie was Chris Spedding.

wonderful video about what probably was and still is pretty much a normal part of paul mccartney life, very hectic.
just one question, does anyone happen to know anything more about the red headed girl in the
rock and roll dance scene, she gets her dress ripped
off, remember? i believe her name is "tana predendergast" but i just can't seem to find anymore
info about her or anything else she might have been
in.
again, great scene.
