A CR2025 would work on a GBA cartridge?

It works! I used a CR1616 battery and a try wing screwdriver both from amazon, only cost about £2. The hard part was getting the contacts off the dead battery. I used a pen knife to get in between the battery and the contact. The bottom (right hand side) one came away easiest. After that I could get a grip on the battery and pry off the top one. It took a bit of brute force but the contacts came off intact. I just taped in the new battery nice and tight and it worked fine.

Also I would definitely reccomend AT LEAST trying this yourself before the dead battery in your cart develops those nasty blue acid crystals (do not ingest/inhale them, they will NOT get you high and they will make horrible things happen to your insides, wash your hands if you even touch any) because eventually these crystals will eat through the circuit traces on the pcb and your cartridge will no longer be repairable by anyone.

@cartoonzinc you can buy used GBA cartridges, you just have to go up to the counter and ask them if they have what you want in the back. also if you go to a watch store or any other place that changes watch batteries they may be willing to change the battery for you, it may cost you though.

@tapdog96 no, they have to be soldered back, try any kind of electronics repair place, should be able to do that for you pretty cheaply as well as replace the battery.

Today, at a watch store I bought a CR2016 battery for my bootleg Yoshi's Island advance, they changed it for me right away, and now it actually saves my game data! :-D So I can confirm this,it works

i did take my game to GameStop to see what they could do for it (GameStop is where i got Emerald used), i told them the problem, they said they couldnt do anything for it... i cant buy a new one cuz they dont sell GBA games anywhere anymore... my dad replaced the battery in my pokemon Emerald game with a battery like the one in this video but mine was bigger (my dad actually had to gently push the lid closed cuz it wouldnt close, that darn battery was too fat)... i bought my Emerald game used and after my dad replaced the battery, Emerald let me play it (lucky for me, it kept all its data) but it still said "the internal battery has run dry"... that battery we put in it WASNT dead, we checked it with a Volt Meter!

I have owned my emerald for 7 years with no problems and it has over 250 hours on it I'm getting worried that the battery may die then I'll lose all that data so I was wondering should I port all my pokemon over to HG or do I have nothing to worry about?

don't worry the battery in pkmn emerald is for the clock function u can still play it thought the berries won't grow and the day and night and tides won't work but your file'll b still there

You can find many websites that give step by step instructions with videos on how to change the batteries in pokemon gold and silver. when searching how to do it with a GBA game those always pop up. I finally found one that tells me the battery size needed to fix my metroid fusion.

Hint: the first GBA games did have the internal battery. I got my Metroid fusion checked out and It's legit but it has a battery.

Do all GBA carts have an internal battery for saving or was it just on the early titles? Because I turned on Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 years later and I had lost my save, I hope the same thing doesnt happen to THPS3 because I put so much damn time into that game!

@TwentyEightySeven just the early titles. the later ones got the ram makeover so the memory should never be lost unless a friend decides to prank you and erases it all.

you should be able to. gba uses cr2016, and gb/gbc uses cr2025. theyre all interchangeable, but the higher the last two digits (16 and 25, respectively) the thicker the battery is but the longer it lasts.
