I think Allison is singing the background vocals and Michael is singing the lead vocals. But her mic is much louder than his so it's hard to hear the main melody that Michael is singing. That's why the vocals sound kinda monotonic.

Bad synchronization....between Allison and Michael. The notes both of them were singing were wrong too. Should have been done solo. By one or the other.

The synchronization is fine. I think the problem is that Allison is singing the background vocals, but her mic is much louder than the lead vocals by Michael. That's why the vocals sound monotonic, because your are mostly hearing the backing vocals. Michael is the one singing the actual melody of the song.
