  • Depends on what you mean by stupid. I've known a lot of stupid people over the years during my time as a musician. I've worked with Previn on a number of occasions over the years - I admire his ability over a number of different spheres of music. He certainly isn't stupid. Ditto Sir Michael Tippett - I contribute to his website and have also been quite involved with the Ives collection at Yale having specialised in Ives, Tippett and Carter during my student days. Sorry to bother you.

  • Jazz is an art form where one does not read music at times.

I see the musicians reading the music. Shostakovitch surely is creative but classical musicians are not creative and a lot of jazz musicians are not creative either. So??

  • Just looked at your profile with interest. "Classical and jazz musician" - have you played professionally for symphony orchestras in the past or are you an enthusiastic semipro/amateur woodwind performer with a passion for music?

  • This is not a jazz piece. Where do these ideas come from.

  • I agree, it is a strange title but on the basis that Shostakovitch is one of the few great 20th century composers I suppose we can let him off! It's a fun piece despite it's title.
