Looking at this footage, the first thing that springs to my mind is my remembrance of these old birds flying to and from EHAM, in c/s of Tor-Air or Fred Olsen. I always enjoyed the sight and sound of them. Under-estimated aircraft-type!
My father used to flys those lovely and noisy planes in South America, over the Andes, over the Amazon Jungle and Caribbean. I would get in tears if I hear live the starting engine. An uncle crashed in a DC-3 over the Andes.
My Dad owned three C-46's back in the 70's. We hauled freight & livestock to south and central america & the islands. We flew out of corrosion corner at Miami International airport. I've ridden as attendant on many flights on those old birds. What a great plane.
Thanks for the post. My dad flew a C46 (R5C USMC) in the South Pacific. I took him to see one at Robbins AFB Museum in GA a few years ago. He's 88y/o now and still talks about his over 800 hours in this beautiful "Art Deco" plane. Beautiful!
She was grounded in Gimli yesterday because she doesn't have a collision avoidance system ... The plane is apparently worth $150,000 and the system costs $100.000... I hope this bird can get back in the air . It is the one airplane noise I enjoy at the cottage.
I say B.S.! I don't see any FNT crashes! They are acting like these planes are flying out of Atlanta-Hartsfield! Just more money for them, I guess. :-(
This plane flies a few hundred feet above the ground in a VFR world . Other flights flying over Lake Winnipeg are seen as vapor trails from planes flying Chicago to Tokyo. Collision ???
Good video. C-46 had been in service with the JASDF(Japan Air Self Diffence Force). I remember my childhood days. I was a kid loving Commando's great engine sound.

My Uncle was a flight engineer on the hump C-46's,
My aunt would get nervous when he took off as she thought they were gonna be attacked by Jap fighter's,
but they never were,
His planes were mostly supply,
and support flight's,
