Yeah, it's a simple tool I did. I will probably release it soon since I don't intend to work on it much (VL-Tone is almost done with his much more complete .obj importer)
I think this game is close to being openly reengineered by fans, people have been developing cheat codes, creating behaviors, rearranging the levels, altering textures, creating new objects, it's amazing! People actually unlocked Luigi now! Next thing, people will be able to add sound effects.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone released a SM64 Engine kit so people can make their own game (from the SM64 engine). That would be so awesome!
Great job! Hopefully this will motivate VL-Tone to work on his OBJ importer.
Also, might I suggest trying to import and work with simpler shapes hehe, I mean of course that kind of shape wouldn't work right. I'd start off with a simple cube or pyramid.
It only replaces the main terrain mesh of Bob-omb Battlefield. It doesn't support texture (materials) and only reads triangles (polygons with more faces won't work).
This level isn't much fun and the collision doesn't work very well (seems like the object is more complex than the collision system can handle). I'll publish a .ppf patch when I get something decent.
I'll try to get sketchup pro running again to make something for your importer. Are there any specifics? Like textures, amount of polygons etc? If it allows as much polygons as OoT I should be able to make something nice.
I get irritated every time I fire up Blender and try to do a simple thing :P.
If you could model something simple that actually resembles a level (even a very small one) that would be helpful. The .obj must contain only triangles (ie, use 'triangulate' setting in Blender).
It's straight forward, a place for a star and two 1-up spots. I can upload the .Obj anytime. But wait.... Doesn't the N64 handle geometry differently, like everything is rotated 90 degrees, or something like that? I remember hearing about that. So I can send it to you, if you wanna try it.
I turned the volume half way up and the YouTube volume all the way, but I only heard very low sound...

i tured all my sound up, (plus utube sound) and i only heard a squeak!

Nice dude. Cant wait for this tool or toads tool 64 with 3d file importer.
I think I heard this was imported by a tool. I'm not that sure I think. xD Did you make a tool to do this?

Oh, OK.

BTW, the Zelda oot limit is around 3000 faces I think but that much can slow down in some areas though.

awesome frauber! Who made toadstool 64?

C'mon, what do you have against gourds :) ?
frauber 2 years ago
actually if you go to the forums VL-Tone has some great screen shots of his importer and it looks really great
PHilADelZPHinESt215 2 years ago
and i forgot to ask does this OBJ. importer just work for level models or can you also import OBJ. to replace characters?
PHilADelZPHinESt215 2 years ago
It only replaces the main terrain mesh of Bob-omb Battlefield. It doesn't support texture (materials) and only reads triangles (polygons with more faces won't work).
It's still VERY early in development.
frauber 2 years ago
ok so i doesnt support quads thats a good thing because most of my models are triangles not quads =)
PHilADelZPHinESt215 2 years ago
At first I thought this was a code that ruined vertex faces.
Then I thought you had a bet of the Polygon importer
Now I realize you made an Obj importer on your own! Sweet! Can you release this level as a ppf patch? Just to goof around in?

Well, if you remember, the Rusted Logic board is full of people with OBJs waiting to be inserted into Mario 64. ;)

You messed up the title! I hate you now!!!1!11!
kidding. This is great.

Actually, a gourd :). It was just a sample .obj file I got from the web.

It's really cool that you've come so far with rom editing on the N64!

Frauber just send me a PM or a comment on what you need to be made and just as proof look at one of my new videos it shows some models i did
PHilADelZPHinESt215 2 years ago
Nice, I will get in touch.

I agree. Your models are great.

What are the polygon limits for ooT?

That is awesome Frauber! You should be really proud with everything you've accomplished!

I know how to model, but I'm sort of busy these days. If you can't find anyone else then I probably could help out.

I could help. I'm an intermediate Blender user (I know the ins and outs of Blender but haven't done anything extraordinary with it) and I could
make a simple level setup. Just give me a limit on triangles and vertices and I'll cook something up.
unintelligentgenius 2 years ago
I'm still in early testing and haven't tested much about limits, but for now about 400 faces seems an aceptable number.
The .obj file must containly only triangles, not polygons with more than 3 verts, so remember to "triangulate" all meshes.
Remember to keep objects very low-poly, the collision system doesn't handle well sudden change of angles.
frauber 2 years ago
I've already created a simple level.
