this movie was an experience. i wish more movies were this orginial and complex. years from now people are going to be speaking of his role in half nelson like they do brando in on the waterfront or bogart in casablanca. he has true talent.

This movie was great and I was lucky enough to see it when it was in theaters (and lucky enough to live in a city where it was shown in theaters). It reminds me of another great film, Monster's Ball, in that when it ends, the story of it's characters are still going on - which is a good thing! Everything doesn't get wrapped up in a nice tidy package, there are still questions left to be answered and you (the viewer)have to, gasp, THINK about what you've just seen. Great film.

On top of that Ryan Gosling IS amazing. I'd never even heard of the guy before but since seeing this film, I've also rented The Believer where he gives another great performance - this guy is the real deal. No offense to Forrest Whitaker (who I think is great) but it's too bad the Academy voter's have such a short memory because Gosling's performance was the BEST of 2006.

Ryan Gosling is one of the few authentic actors of todays modern day hollywood. Man, this guy is so young and does unbelievable projects. He really doesn't say much; if one has noticed in all of his movies, you know these loooonng boring dialogs and who knows what the fuck they're talkin about..but, Ryan almost spins 'round the web of a scene with such clinical acting and connection. Wow, just wow!!

It's a good movie, but it's a bit overrated. Sure it's a fantastic film, but people say it's one of the best in ages. I loved it because of it's innovation, and acting is great, but it's not Casablanca or something

Comparing Casablanca to any contemporary film is irrelevant. Not to say Casablanca is not a landmark of cinematic history, but contextually its like comparing pro baseball of the 1930s to present day MLBers.

this is one of the HAVE TO SEE movies of 2006. the amazingly gifted Ryan Gosling reminds me of actor Edward Norton before his revelatory performance in Fight Club. Gosling is KING!
