  • R.I.P to ur chicken

  • @Tyrone279 Thank you for your condolences. I miss her every time I see this video.

  • I have one buff orpington hen and I call her " Blondie " Lol.

  • @dms5805 Does she have a favorite food?

  • @debpun Yeah, she likes all kinds of food. lol Plus she's very friendly!

  • My favorite chicken, who was a buff orpington, whom my friend and I called Hash Brown, was my favorite hen, and died when a dog came to my yard as well and sadly killed her while I was on spring break vacation. :(

  • @RandomGuyInAHat So sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you have other hens to keep you company.

  • nice view,very cute!

  • awww

  • RIP love.

  • @mightysalacc thank you for your condolences.

  • @debpun I am hoping to pick up one or two myself, they are supposed to be a caring breed, perfect for my poor Kate who has been left on her own.

  • @mightysalacc Buff Orpingtons in my experience are people-friendly; and hen-friendly, too. Kate definitely needs more hen friends. One hen is a lonely sad hen.

  • at 1:35 looks like it having a sezure! XD

  • @dimitrisobolevskij hee-hee.. Sure looks that way. Thanks for stopping by. Big Buff is actually grooming her neck. Kinda tough to do when you're a chicken!

  • @debpun lol yes i love chickens

  • Who ever gave this video a thumbs down is an Idiot !

  • @sexymex81 Aloha, sexymex81, thank you for your support. You know what they say "can't please them all." I happen to adore my Big Buff.

  • @UKPetboy they got more brains than many people.

  • did the dog get to ur buff the day u filmed this vid i have 1 buff and an easter egger

  • @MsMackenzie2 Hi! Thanks for viewing Big Buff grooming... I filmed this video months before the stray dog attack. How old are your hens? Does your EE have a small beard? I think they are so cute. Have you seen salmon faverolle hens-- they have beards, too! Have you offered your hens raw unroasted unsalted sunflower seeds as healthful treats? You can buy the seeds from bulk bin in heathfood store. The sunflower seeds are better treats (more fiber, healthy oils) than cracked corn.

  • aburridoo

  • @carebearnmbr46 thanks for your condolences. I was thinking about her today how I miss her afternoon cuddles. The hens work hard all day and happy hour in my lap. Chickens are very soft and pettable. And, hens lay eggs. *bonus* =)

  • In my opinion, chickens are better than any dog, cat or anything. Check out my videos please.

  • @UKPetboy thank you for you condolences. The chickens do have their chicken intelligence! Have you seen the PBD documentary "Natural History of the Chicken"? It's a wonderful introduction to the world of chicken and their owners, neighbors and rescuers!

  • How long do chickens generally live? I mean not counting stuff like dog attacks or hawk attacks. 15 years or something? My chickens are a couple days over 1 year old.

  • @SupaCoolShizzz Aloha! The average lifespan of a free-ranging chicken is about 7 years.

  • Very cute!!!! I love that thing she does when she pecks at her neck!! My New Hampshire red "Chirpy" does that a lot!!

    I have 7 chickens.

    A Black Australorp named Jorge

    A Barred Rock named Pepe

2 New Hampshire Reds named Chirpy and Hector

    A Speckled Sussex named Shelly

    A Salmon Faverolle

and A Buff Orpington named Buffy!

Your chickens are all so cute.

Thanks for posting videos!! I subscribed!!

  • @SupaCoolShizzz Aloha, thanks for stopping by. You have a diverse flock and I like that! How is the temperament of your Salmon Faverolle? I love they have "owl beard" makes them looks soooo cute! I read on Feathersite that they tend to get bullied by other hens.

  • That's the cutest adult chicken i have ever seen. So sad she died.

Couldn't stand if any of my 7 chickens died. Is that a Black Australorp in the backround?

  • @conce67 Hi, thanks for watching Big Buff cuddling in my lap. At 1:27, yes, you have very sharp eyes! That is our big Black Australorp, top hen in the flock named "Alpha Hen." She shoulder butts all other hens to get to her feeding spot at the round feeder pan.

  • i want to murder the fucking dog that killed her!

  • @mattz456 Aloha, I really wish this dog attack incident never happened. My heart was dark for a long time, furious at the dog owner, at Mother Nature. I did file police report; the local police did talk with the owner. This time I did not press charges.

  • @debpun its just terrible she just looks absolutely beautiful :/

  • @mattz456 Gosh, thanks for your sweet comment. She's one of my most huggable hens. I sure miss her. Do you or know neighbors who have free-range chickens?

  • @debpun ive got some quail and chickens in an incubator at the moment and my friend has some quail chicks about 4 - 5 weeks old now his chickens are about 1- 2 years :)

  • @mattz456 cool- quail! they are so teeny tiny!! Thanks for answering my question.

  • Ooooh! I have one cute Buff Orpington~my sweetie, two Golden Sex Links, one Rhode Island Red, one Plymouth Barred Rock, and a Black Jersey Giant! I'm jealous, because your buff is so cute! ♥

  • @xxxloveyoursmilexxx Aloha and thanks for stopping by. I would love to hear more of your experience of raising a Black Jersey Giant; I read that they are huge chickens and mellow. Will you let me know?

  • @debpun Of course! My Black Jersey Giant, Shadow, she's big alright, but when she eats, she would peck at my other chickens, if they take her eating spot. She cares for this one chicken, Lemon, the Golden Sex-Link. I guess you could say she's laid back, but whenever my mom calls them for rice as a treat or something, Shadow would fly and run all over the others to get the rice first. She is sweet, but she pecks sometimes, and yes, she is really big. She'll be about 17 lbs fullgrown. She's BIG!

  • @xxxloveyoursmilexxx All of my chickens started laying eggs at about 5-6 months old, except for my Buff, Blondie. I do wonder why. I heard that Buffies lay both white and brown eggs.

  • @xxxloveyoursmilexxx Thanks sooooo much for your observation re: JG. That's eye-popping hen at 17 lbs! Now, I'm reading the Backyard Chicken forum all about Jersey Giants! Hoping next year I can order from Sandhill Preservation or Indigo Egg for JG. I don't care if they are blue, black, splash or white.

  • @debpun That's great! My JG's feathers shine and is a mix of navy-blue and black, very soft feathers and beautiful. I'm glad you might get a JG:)

    Splash?

  • @xxxloveyoursmilexxx I hope to find a small scale hatchery that carries JG Splash coloring. Would really love to raise Splash, but I'd need to see what colors are available then! Then again, I am a big sucker for Buffies! And I know a local breeder on the Big Island.

  • She's gorgeous! I have 4 Buffs, 4 Red Sex Links, and 4 Reds all about 2 months old.

I am truly sorry for you loss.

  • @heatherrrlou Aloha, glad to hear you are raising chickens! You'll discover twelve different distinct personalities emerge from your flock. Buffies are my favorite kinds of hens so far in the chickendom.

  • A lot of of persons hate chicken. It s good to like them, it means how much a person truly respects nature. I m sad a fucking dog ate this nice chicken, that unfortunately happens often.

  • @simariato Aloha, thank you for stopping by. Sadly, it's not the dog's fault, my opinion is that the dog's owner should have done a better job training, disciplining and building a proper kennel.

Loose dogs in our neighborhoods is the most worrisome top predator (2nd are mongeese) at my home in Hawaii; there's no coyote, fox, raccoon, snakes, red tailed hawks to deal with!

  • That chicken died on my birthday. :'C RIP

  • @Catfissy Awwww...! Thank you for your condolences.

  • hehe so funny, shes so fluffy ;) wanna pass my hand over her feathers :)

  • hehehe shes truly a lovely chicken woman :) (hen)

I woul love to help her smoothing her feathers....

Ohh i am sure shes in the chicken heaven now having a rooster

helping her cleaning and smoothing the feathers...

Oh by the way the brown chickens here in Germany are called by the people

Fox (in German Füchse) and the grey ones (cloister-hens) = Klosterhennen

  • Thanks for the German cultural note. :)

  • @debpun

youre welcome, we germans love chicken :)

  • Ohh this hen is so sweet--just like my lill old teddybear :)

  • @Schlipperschlopper Thanks for stopping by! Big Buff was one of my most cuddliest hens when she was alive. She'd work during the day (eating grass, chasing bugs). Around sunset, she'd climb into my lap & we'd cuddle. I am blessed having her in my life. Didn't know hens can be like a teddy bear!

  • She is so lovely and beautiful. If i was a rooster i would definitely marry her

  • aww it's so cute!

  • @xxxloveyoursmilexxx thanks for stopping by. I really miss my Big Buff.

  • @debpun I'm sorry of what happened to your beautiful Orpington. I have one too, aren't they just so adorable? My chickens are so skinny, what did you feed your chickens to get so big like that? I give my chickens all purpose feed, and my Orpington is 10 weeks and three days old. Did your Orpington give you a lot of eggs? My chickens are always scared of everything ----even squirrels! My chickens would probably try to flap their wings if you hold them!

  • @xxxloveyoursmilexxx In the video, she's 3.5 years old. Sounds like you are raising Buffies for eggs; feed lay ration (17-18% protein). My Orps were medium production (the high layers are Australorps or Barred Plymouth Rocks).

When you're about to greet them, announce yourself by singing to them or by saying "hey, chickie, chickie.." Your young pullets would be scared of new things. I sit down on the ground and my Buff Orp would first peck my apron and I would pick her up & put her in my lap!

  • @debpun how many years has she laidd eggs? My chickens are only 13weeks and 10 weeks old. Sorry for your loss. :(

  • @xxxloveyoursmilexxx Thanks for your question. She's laid eggs starting at 7 months and all throughout her life of 3.5 years! Thanks for your condolences.

Eggs are seasonal: hens will pump it out in spring & summer. Once the daylight hours start shortening, hens will produce fewer to no eggs; start to molt, taking a rest over the winter.

I don't use lights to force egg laying over winter hours, even in Hawaii!

  • sorry for your loss. We had a hen go a similar way-

  • @amgoodhope thank you for your kind words. I am sorry to hear that happened to your hen.

  • Your welcome hun im so sorry for the loss, and i know she misses you too

  • OMG! She died on my Birthday!! :(

    Its not fair...

    I HATE DEATH...

  • @rosepink124 Aloha- thank you for your condolences.

  • Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know what it's like to lose a pet bird you love and loves you back. I'm just now getting into chickens. This is a breed I may get next year.

  • @destroyahdes aloha- the buff orpingtons are more broody than the rhode island red or plymouth barred rocks. this means they would want to sit on eggs (fertilized or not) and want to hatch the eggs. kinda puts a damper on things for egg production but buffies are SO cuddly...

  • @debpun I have two reds so they'll be my egg producers. I do just want a cuddly, pretty lap chicken.

  • how many kilos? what breed is it?

  • I never weighed Big Buff; I'd estimate she was about 7 or 8 pounds (3.5 kilos), quite hefty for a hen.

She is a heritage breed called Buff (for the color of the feathers) Orpington (place where this breed was originally developed in U.K.).

  • @debpun well thanks for the info, im also a avid breeder of chickens i have kabir ,white leghorns, native chickens and the fighting cocks.,.,about youre breed Buff orphington theres no egg or even the chicks, are not available in our area maybe because these breeds are not applicable in the tropics.,.,.well im in the phillipines known for the cock fighting ^_^ even tho many people condemned it as illegal and against animal rights but still these chicken are fascinating in terms of aerial battle

  • @debpun hope i have a pair of those breeds man.,.,.and ill try to crossed breed it with the native chickens.,peace

  • She's pretty. Who's the black one in the background around 1:45 min?

  • That is "Alpha Hen," our top Australorp. Always alert, never cuddly. She's one of the largest hen in the flock.

  • so sorry for your loss, of all our breeds we own, "Bud" my buff orpington roo, is by far my favorite, and my (dare i say) friend.

  • Thank you for your condolences, truecolorsloft. Do you have a photo or video of Bud your buff orp roo?
