  • in the olympic squat, you mention your knees should be aligned with your feet as you descend. However in the video, your knees always made it past your feet. I also hear people saying knees shouldn't go past your knees. Which is the right form?

  • @thirdaxe Shouldn't the knees past the knees? No in olympic squats your knees will always past for toes..

  • Black in White, I thought it was OLD SCHOOL video

  • Just Wondering. Are you Canadian?

  • @gonggrad haha about to ask the same question

  • @0863534377

    @gonggrad

    Yes, he is Canadian

  • Getting below parallel is better for the knees. Doing those partial "power squats" is bad for the knee as the motion must be stopped at parallel (stress on the acl) and started again with the knees. Stay healthy and go ass to grass.

  • Competitive eater? That something to be proud of? Lols

  • @Michel0555 fuck yes.

  • this is my position when i take a shit.

  • can somebody help me everytime i squat i pull a muscle in my leg the same leg in the same spot what should i do

  • @footballplyer73 Warm up better. I used to pull muscles in my groin when squatting before I realized how important it is to warm up.

  • im a comp eater a crosfiter a power lifter dude your stupid

  • @MrGunhoe I don't think you were trying to be ironic, were you?

  • istinata sa trenirovkite i razbira se dobavkite

  • yup, the "olympic" squat is def a variation of the "power" squat...

  • great video...great explanation between the various squats

  • good info, thanks

  • @89orangejuice when i try squatting low i get knee pain the following day. when i squat to just a little bellow parallel I don't have any problems.

but maybe it has to do with me being bowlegged

  • Box squats aren't just for beginners.

  • Nice work but I think you forgot something ...... The weight !!!!

  • olympic squat is the best, it places much less stress on your spine, and only guys white god core strengh can pull it off it's the athelets squat, his back is too forward on the olympic squat.

  • Im 6-1 i squat 435 for 6 reps today but i dont go quite parrallel cuz knees plus its dumb no powerlifters are close to that height. They go parrallel with like a 1 foot rom.

  • great explanations and performance alltho i have seen a few people going deep with the power squat to. its not impossible to go almost ATG or even ATG with the low-bar position

  • Thanks

    :)

  • I dont like either,

I go with Low Bar squats, they have the same barbell placement on the back as a power squat, but the same stance as a high bar sq (oly-sq)

Works, Back, Core, hips, Quads, Hams, Glutes, Calves... everything!

  • olympic squat: aka the big boy squat

  • @metsoforte You're an idiot.

  • @djacklowery What a meaningless reply, if you think differently explain why.

  • @metsoforte

    Certainly.

A narrow stance squat does not develop any more quad muscle fiber action than a wide stance squat. A wide stance squat is more functional for sports and everyday use. The narrow stance front squat helps with Olympic lifts like the C & J but for functionality, I'd go with the wide stance power squat.

    That's just my amateur opinion.

    Source: Louie Simmons.

  • @djacklowery Olympic squat is not for everyday use, because you will hurt your knees after time i think.

  • @TheNaturalBrothers

The wrap on the olympic squat is that it is hard on the knees, but this is wrong. Try an olympic squat and then a squat where you stop at or above parallel (a partial squat). You'll see that the toughest part of the olympic squat motion (when your ass is below parallel) puts less force on the knees.

  • @djacklowery I have heard Louie Simmons say this but the evidence he gives is anecdotal and I think he is just bias towards his methods and Westside. The Olympic squat will activate more fibers in the quad, common sense. For some anecdotal evidence to support this, look at the thighs of Olympic lifters.

  • @dp1569 Meh, I've seen the quads of olympic lifters. They're huge no doubt, but I've also seen the quads of powerlifters...There quads/legs are much bigger in my opinion.

I recently switched to a wide stance squat and my 1RM has gone up significantly while still maintaining good form.

Aesthetically my quads/legs have also gained size and look a hundred times better.

Like I said, just my amateur opinion.

  • Squats & Oats bro's.

  • You want to know how he can eat that much and looks that good?

    gh baby

  • High bar squat is the more athletic movement.

  • i didnt think there was two different squats i just thought thats how people do it i play basketball im trying to increase my vertical which one should i do ?

  • @oliverrainman u should do both, in the 1-5 rep range to develop nervous system and power, and have a slow tempo going doing and explode on the way up

  • He could go deeper on both I feel. Especially the olympic squats. But hey, anything below parallel's good in most books.

  • For more information on the goblet squat find some Dan John material!

  • im weak and skinny which should i do?!

  • @13chomp4 Depends on what your goals are.

  • damn you do crossfit too... that shits so hard lmao haha i want to die at the end of each one

  • don't believe everything you see on here. You never want your knees to go forward over your feet, because this puts stress on them and is bad over time and can be dangerous with high weights. You always want your back upright thus causing your knees to bend but not jut forward. At least that's what I was taught.

  • @Curn1 try heavy olympic squatting with a heavy weight and not having your knees going past your toes, guarantee you will fall over. I've been my coach and I have been squatting this way for YEARS and our knees are perfectly fine.

  • @CMBlifts1994 My coach and i ****

  • my balance is actually relle crap, i cant go parallel without falling over, i usually do it as as possible say a few degrees off parallel, is that fine?

  • I currently squat 425 olympic squat but it hurts the hell out of my knees, I play football would doing the power squat be a better variation? And will I be able to more weight?

  • @Hunt8rJob your advice = worthless

  • @Hunt8rJob ur a moron.. what do u think happens to ur feet and body in general when u lift with flat shoes or no shoes at all? it adapts, muscles strengthen. OMG its amzing i know...

  • Dat wrist angle, nice way to break them.

  • @MrKaikkivaltias Yeah seriously...

  • @furiouspete123 i switched to power squat and love it !

  • My knees are shit. What do you recommend?

  • squat atf ass to the floor!!!

  • Very good video

  • Below parallell <3

  • Doing power squats puts more emphasis on my back, so it's only natural that I use my back to pick up the dang weight, but people may it seem as though I'm using most of my back to get it up. That's not true.

  • God bless your soul!!! That's how I've been squatting for quite some time, but people act as if I don't know what I'm doing. I do Power Squats. I don't do Olympic Squats. I've been so worked over this for a while. My friend told me that I was hard headed and that I needed to swallow my pride, but it wasn't about pride. That's just how I squat. Dang. I squat 555lbs during my first year at college and I didn't have any problems at all from doing the Power Squat. Thank you so very much!

  • @ibizmoney It's rubbish though. WHY do people accept parallel squats? Would you accept people doing a bench press with the same range of movement as a parallel (half) squat?

  • @kylewaller

Because for a lot of people keeping arch in lower back becomes excessively hard ATG - even the example person here lets his back round bad - his whose power squat is not deep enough to qualify as parallel either btw. For non olympic lifter often parallel gives you the full training effect but less risk of loosening the lumbar tension.

  • furious pete needs to hit up some calve raises

  • furious pete...your my hero

  • He is not going to depth for anyone who is taking this video seriously

  • @SufferingIsProgress On the LBBS at least.

  • Hey pete, whats the best everyday work out? as in all over body and how many times a week you work out? i do 5 and rest for 2 but just wondering since i hear a lot of different type of ways

  • Lol I only watch because of the thumbnail picture

  • dats not paralell bro

  • yeah i shouldve seen this video like 2 years ago. I did it wrong and my back spazzed out.

  • Is it true I should stick out m,y butt when I squat?

  • i just started trying to work out the other day and I tried to do a squat and threw my back out its been like 5 days and it still hasn't fully healed up so I haven't been going to the gym, should I go back to the gym and keep trying now or wait until I don't feel any pain in my back anymore?

  • @Ammo1174 No. After you've injured something at the gym don't be in a hurry to go back and re injure yourself if it still hurts. In the mean time you should watch some more instructional videos to fix your form and when you are healed warm up with a lower weight (preferably the bar) and practice form. If you can get someone to watch your form and help you out.

  • awesome!!

  • Which one should be done for a shotputter/javelin thrower

  • What?! Power Lifters always go below parallel dude!

  • I Play hockey, which should i do?

  • ive been doing the power squat stance but going past parallel, i have got alot of good results from it and get a good pump and from it should i change my stance?

  • crossfit is gay !!!!

  • when i go down on the power squat i fell pain in one of my knees but only when i flare the knees any help?

  • Whenever i squat, my knees go past my toes.. like does widening my stance help this? Everyone at the gym says you need to work on balance and lean back more.

  • i play football which one should i do?

  • @footballplyer73 power squat is the best for football and most other sports

  • @dominater2156 ATG squats are the best, period.

  • @footballplyer73 Power

  • @furiouspete123 im a beginner powerlifter my coach trains me with the olympic squat , is it right ?

  • @footballplyer73 no olympic squat!

  • @footballplyer73 both you can never to too much leg work as a football player

  • @footballplyer73 It all depends on how old you are, for how long you have been training strenght and what your position and tasks are on the field. Its more important to look at what factors you want to change. Is it mobility, agility, power, explosivness and/or strenght?

  • @footballplyer73 olympic

  • @footballplyer73 I think speed is most important for you, cos you mostly need it when kicking a ball. And of course you need aerobic endurance as well, but that shouldn't be a surprise.

  • @footballplyer73

    Mc Donald

  • @footballplyer73 Maybe Pete will chime in here and give his thoughts, but olympic squats are a much more natural motion, and help to transition to other athletic movements very well. Power squats are a good exercise too, but they build more movement specific strength than functional, athletic strength. Also, olympic squats rae much more explosive. I vote olympic squat. Make sure you get some olympic lifting shoes like he's wearing in the video though if you're going to do them.

  • i hate the way u canadians say "out"

  • @Zlaterrr i hate the way americans are obese

  • @danthaman7777 I hate the way everyone is jealous of Americans and stereotype to solve their insecurity problems.

  • @srbuckey52661 what u talking aboot eh?

  • @Zlaterrr I hate the way american are military focused weapons freak :)

  • great video! none of that "stop before your knees bend 90 degrees" nonsense

  • squatting on a box can be very dangerous for your spine. do not squat onto a box for your actually training, only to get the form.

    ****IMPORTANT****

  • great vid thnx for posting

  • sick video man.

  • I wanna know how you ate a lump of butter, eat shit loads of junk yet look so lean... LOL

  • @IAMSKILLED 0:24 , Pretty much explains it :-p

  • @IAMSKILLED cos he doesn't do it every day of his life

  • @IAMSKILLED He works out like fuck, dude. Working out with weights speeds up your metabolism. He's ripped and lean because he works out so much, so any crap he eats gets burnt off mega quickly because of the increased metabolism from the weight training.

  • @IAMSKILLED hes lifting heavyass weight allday evreyday , wont be suprised if his squat is 200kg and deadlift over 400

  • @omfglol99n00b haha over 400kg deadlift? I'd be very surprised...

  • @IAMSKILLED The answer lies in the video.

  • @IAMSKILLED lifting heavy barbells, its what i do, eat big macs all day then squat heavy.

  • @IAMSKILLED cardio bro

  • @IAMSKILLED hmmm i wonder

  • This was my first lesson when i started powerlifitng, My trainer told me it's good idea to train home with a broom.

  • Good vid Pete. I should do a 40oz curl vid huh?

  • finally a video?

  • i mostly do squats to increse my vertical. is the olympic better than the power for this?

  • btw this will strain your asshole, sorry noone talks about that, but if you overdo it you can rip your asshole and get stretchmarks on your ass

  • not as good as the playboy workout tutorials but ok sure

  • Amazing, even from a competitive eater!

  • Love you, pete.
