@spottydog4477. I read that the swastikas were added here in the USA, and the Horten did not have them in Germany. That's why I did not put them on mine. Who knows?
@supercrapnstuff11. True, the Nazi ones are actually reversed, pointing the other way. Now I don't speak German, but I think they call it the "Hakenkreuz". I have also heard it referred to as "the crooked cross". I have heard it's illegal in Germany to display it, even on model airplanes! I guess some people think that erasing history can actually change history.
@supercrapnstuff11. What is really bad is when they repeat the balkenkreuz cross from the fuselage sides or wings on the tail fin, might as well leave the tail blank. I am working on a heavily illustrated Luftwaffe 1946 book, and all my tail fins have swastikas.
Hello Mario!
@cervantesphantom.
The first shot didn't have to be there, but it's not a problem, what is problem is the last one. In the last shot the plane fall too slow, you could have use more dramatic view or make the plane fall at least two time faster. But nice work anyway.
don't forget to leave out that the Horton 229 was only made once and it was also somewhat stealth... but radars could pick it up 6km from the station but that's pretty close....
Thanks bud, It's low poly but it and 5 other versions of it will be in the 3D world on Friday... if you want to have a look give me a shout in PM... take care Nex
Don't forget people, the Hortens were the first to marry a flying wing design to the new jet engines. Jack Northrop is to the Hortens what Robert Goddard is to Von Braun. Remember that a lot of the Northrop rocket and jet desings from WWII had rudders, big ones. So they were actually 'tailless' rather than true flying wings like the Horten 229 and yes, the Northrop MN-1.
Very cool...I love the Horton. I want to make t shirt like my other Luftwaffe tees, but I'm not sure whether to use "Ho-229" or just "Horton" with an image of the plane.
Northrop had done some work with flying wings (google northrop flying wing) but they got to look at stolen 229's its crazy how they had the ideas back then
Not really, the first ones from Northrop were from 1923, and the M N-1 was built in 1940, similiar to the Horton. They had been in the flying wing experiments for awhile.
it is, they studied this plane's stealth capabilities to improve on it, and make it their own. And from these studies arose the B-2 spirit stealth bomber ( the horton
had good stealth caracteristics already, it was invisable due to the shape, but part that came from the fact that the outer surfaces were made maily from wood)
I wish! Maybe someday someone will hire me full time to do this type of work and then, perhaps, I will live comfortably. I just enjoy doing what I do. Inexpensive Hobby, that's all!
Thanks! Glad you like it. A good friend of mine knew the Horten brothers, they told him lot's of valuable information about their wartime development of the 229.
thats cool, even though im writing this 9 months too late, i thought i'd tell you: my uncle is like best friends or something with Willy Messerschmitt's grandson or nephew. im not realy sure, but i thought it was realy cool. he is bringing me to meat him sometime soon
That's cool! He would be a great person to interview for a documentary. Years ago I worked on a documentary where they interviewed Eugen Sanger's son. His dad designed the Sanger Anti-podal bomber, ancestor of the space shuttle! Have you met Mr. Messerschmitt yet?
What was that American plane?

The Go-229 or Ho-IX is a german flying wing yes.
Designed by the Horten brothers during wwII.
Dreachon 1 year ago
@hubbojumbo. I did not put a swastika because there was no vertical tail fin or rudder on this one. Otherwise I would have.
Humbertusmarius 1 year ago
@Humbertusmarius the swastikas were on the original = on the horzontal surface where you put a yellow strip

@Humbertusmarius german planes didn't have swastikas, just the funny looking +'s which aren't swastikas per say
