What she is saying is that she disagrees with adding islamic prefix to notions such as femenism and democracy to legitimize something that does not exist ...there is no such thing as these notions in Islam. She is terlling teh truth. Give her a lot of credit for speaking up.
well probably too late to write this, but this is basically what she says:
- I am against "Islamic" feminism, "Islamic" human rights, or "Islamic" democracy, since these are universal notions and those who insist in adding "Islamic" to sth like feminism usually mean sth that is not what is normally understood from these terms
- I do believe, however that a Muslim can be a feminist, and that Islam is compatible with equality between the sexes, provided that it is interpreted correctly
That's interesting. I disagree with her though. Of course there's such a thing as Islamic feminism and it has a right to exist. 'Feminism' as a term is so contested, 'islamic feminism' is just one of many feminisms.
i guess she is referring to some who completely devoid feminism of its meaning. i see a point in that, there is anyhow a loose definition for feminism, if you really don't believe in any of the common principles, then why insisit on calling yourself a feminist? but there are other ppl who would call themselves islamic feminists too, so i agree with you on that.
i also didn't like the way she said "correct interpretation" ... everyone thinks that their interpretation is correct, right? that's the point! i happen to generally agree with an interpretation close to her's, but you should respect that diversity
Very smart lady...REPECT!!
