SEGA was once in the 1980 and 90's the absolute masters of racing games and it's music, no other video game company was even near the quality of Outrun in 1986 until Chase HQ by Taito was released in 1988.
I want to work on a concept album and take all the iconic 8-Bit arcade themes and make them over into symphonic pieces. I'm talking mad strings, spiccato, bartok, the works. Sounds strange, some might see it as destroying the music, but I can already hear it in my head. I think it depends on your taste, and if you have the same taste as I do, you'll probably love it.
Wanting to listen to more of this song is what made me a great outrun player. I recently played it at Chuck E. Cheese and beat it on one token, and of course Splash Wave was my driving force!
such a memorable piece of music!! i love that run up of notes at 0:23 and the melody afterwards is sweet..fits the game perfect in an 80s as you can get sort of way..the drum fills around the 4:00 mark are ace too- or as we used to say in our stonwashed drainpipe jeans and humongous basketball boots."that's effin SKILL that!"..brings it all back!
No kids today appreciate arcade games, but how could they? The arcades have been brought to the homes in todays home consoles. The closest mall from me used to have a big room of arcade games, now just a little mini-room. My goal at some point is to aquire a few of these classic arcade games as I will never have another chance to play them out in public again. Then my future kids can see what games I popped so many quarters into when I was younger lol.
I can't help but feel that this sounds like an alternate theme to Space Harrier. Speaking of which, they should have put Out-Run as an unlockable in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Heck, they should have just nixed Fatal Labyrinth and Golden Axe Warrior for that alone.
Ese juego hasta en blanco y negro jugado en el Spectrum era alucinante. LA banda sonora... de lo mejor que hay también. Cuando sacaron la edición remasterizada para Play 3 no lo dudé ni un instante
Haha i know just what you mean, Outrun in the middle, Double Dragon to the right, with Dragon Ninja next to that, On my left was WWF Wrestlefest and Ninja turtles I believe :P
@Jamerio3D Maybe that's the attraction and joy of Arcade music, or any VG music. To a certain extent, it always carries a quality of "This is what everything going well feels like. I'll take two, please."
Definitely! If I've said it once, I've said it a million times - we grew up during the last great era to be a kid. The video game industry grew up with us basically, which is nice for us, but sucks for the kids of today.
The technology is superior, no one can doubt that. However, the fun factor is missing from a majority of today's games. Play a game like the original Contra or Out Run and you'll see what I mean. You get a rush playing the classics that you don't often get from games of today.
@M5IAN HD and 3D doesn't make games great. I mean if you were playing a really boring game but it was in HD/3D you wouldn't say "Oh this game is great because its in 3D or HD". You'd still think it was boring. So the HD/3D argument doesn't mean anything. We didn't enjoy the games any less because there was no HD/3D. Games in the 80s were fun to play. There was no horrible attitude in them. There was nothing about them that was sick or over the top. They were fun & addictive with catchy music
oh i remember i had this game in my old computer, i could only see it in black and orange colours. i remember how much i love the music.
the new game of sega bayonetta included this theme and magical sound shower, also make tribute to other old games like after burner and space harrier!! if you have the chance you should listen the OST!! great remix versions!!!
boy does this all bring back sooo many memories, man the excitement at that time was so high just because video games were still a very new thing in the mid 80's, getting popular because of Nintendo and Sega.
Best song in the hole game! I like the real music that they can put in games now like the 80's pop in gta3 but the old made up game music from 80's-mid 90's was very cool like in (A500) Turrican II made in the 90's but I like 80's music and game music the best!
I'm just gonna walk into Game Dude someday and buy whatever game I see that looks cool without even knowing anything about it just like it would have been back in 1983-1997.
Classic games always blew my balls off and makes me want to play them. Call of Doilies is for the turds

The new songs on 2006 fail tho especially the ones with lyrics it ruined the classicalness of the game.

"made-up" music? "real" music?
How sad, you actually think there's such a thing as "real music". It's all just "Music", there is no such thing as real music or fake music.

Guess he just means "original music", i.e. "made up especially for the game" as opposed to licensing existing tracks.
