It's funny I still do not think I have gotten over the UNLV loss the next game. That game still haunts me. As I child that game was everything.
This Hawkeye team is probably one of the best Iowa has ever had. Certainly the best since I have been watching since the mid eighties. It is great to see all those old faces on the Hawkeye team. What Ia time it was back then when things were more innocent and basketball seemed more pure.
@masstrkiller Yeah, Iowa really dominated UNLV in the first half but when they slowed it up, they really let UNLV back in. Too bad because that Iowa team was the most talented Hawkeye team I've seen.
Actually just once, they lost at Indiana, but still a great team. If they would have finished off Vegas in the Final 8 they would have played Indiana again.
An interesting fact about the win in Iowa City: The Hawkeyes were the first team to ever score 100 points against Indiana. Granted, the introduction of the shot clock and 3-point line two seasons earlier may have played a role. But still, not too shabby...
I felt that entire season that Iowa would win it all. If my memory is right I believe that there were 2 Big Ten teams in the Final Four that year, Michigan and Indiana, who did win it all. Imagine having 3 teams from the same confrence in the Final Four. It almost happened that year, but I believe it was UNLV that beat Iowa to keep it from happening.
No, you were right about Indiana, but the other three teams that year were UNLV, Syracuse, who was the runner-up; and Providence, the Cinderella team of the tournament.
Also worth noting was that in 1985 the Big East did manage to get three teams in the Final Four - St. John's, Georgetown, and eventual champion Villanova. The only time in history that this has happened...
Great win by Iowa!

Wow, Iowa had a basketball team? lol

If UNLV was #1 in the nation how could their victory against Iowa be an upset? The upset was that Iowa had a big lead in the first place.

The only thing missing is a Gus Johnson reaction, but unfortunately he wasn't with CBS at that time.

That was a long shot. Close to NBA 3 point range.

Oh, the good old days of tape-delayed basketball.
A great shot by Gamble too. I'll avoid the name-related pun.
