I'm in a toss up whether to use Eva or British Airways to fly to Bangkok next year.... can anybody describe the perks to using Eva or would it be easier to pay £100 extra to use BA? Thanks in Advance......
@Richy102 EVA air miles better than BA. I've flown both services to BKK, the EVA service leaves LHR at 2135 and arrives in BKK at 1530 local time, non stop.
EVA are more reliable, like BA has a 20kg weight allowance, but the food is much better, IFE excellent and the seats recline more in Econ than on BA.Cabin crew are great, and overall it's a better experience. Save the money, fly EVA, you won't regret it.
How good is the on-board entertainment as I tend to get very restless on long haul flights! It dawned to me that EVA were advertised more to Thai people travelling to/ from hence why I looked more at BA but going by your recommendations and the difference in cost- this may appeal to me more? Any help would be much appreciated!
The IFE is great, there's 11 or so channels to choose from, all the latest cinema releases plus other channels showing stuff like Top Gear etc. The food is pretty good, not excellent but palatable, with a choice of oriental and european. Drinks are free, they're generous if you ask for two, and the whole experience is good. They're currently using fairly new Boeing 777-300 ERs. you can also pre book your seats up to 100 days in advance by calling the office in london.
EVA alternate between the 777 and the 747 during the peak and low tourist seasons to BKK from LHR and vice versa. Both are as good as each other seating wise (can only speak for economy class personally).
omg, i love EVA AIR, it seems so comforting with the music they play at landing and take off. ALso, they have really good service, there accident record is close if not flawless!
Eva is the best airline I have flown with. I always use ony Eva to go to BKK. If you intend to fly a lot with Eva, you should join their Evergreen club that gives many extra perks especially when you get to Gold card.
They are now using boeing 747 as I came back on one but are as good as the 777.
@imdamaster Do the passenger-only EVA AIR 747s fly to SFO, or only the combis? I remember having the combi on my first few flights on EVA AIR SFO-TPE, and i did NOT like the economy class seats on it. In contrast, the 777-300ER had roomier seats and the economy class seats on that one have personal AVOD screens, which was MUCH better. I'm glad they upgraded to the 77Ws. Would EVA AIR be having the 747s and 747 Combis for long, before they become freighter jets?
@Taipei127 The Eva Air 747's don't currently fly to SFO, or not that I know of, only the combis. Although the Deluxe class seats on the Combis are really quite roomy. Eva air will have the 747-400s for awhile because they spent a lot to remodel them. And for the Combis, it seemed most of them were going to become freighters, but it ended up being a strategic thing, when there aren't many passengers saying traveling to san francisco they can deliver on those planes as well.
