Its rather simple really, the burning of the middle match weakens its structure, and because u had to squeeze it in there, there is already a force pushing on the middle match. Due to the speed/rate at which the middle match burns, it flex's before it breaks, getting spat out... $20 please

Neither match. The middle match will fall once it burns in half, which will likely happen faster than the fire could spread. And since the match is being squeezed between the two matches to keep it in place, it'll probably be snapped in half faster when the middle becomes weakened.
