Naw, mufucka, you can't have my cornbread, that's for damn sure. Cuz if you try to take my cornbread, part 2 of my killin spree gone begin in here on yo ass, right nah! If you even thinkin bout my cornbread, you better get the taste out cha mouf, that's for damn sure. Naw, fuck him! Fuck that! Cuz I'm New York City, goddammit...Nobody take no cornbread from me."
@DukhtareKabuly When cream is taken away from milk, it is churned to make butter...after churning the cream, the butter clumps up and is removed, leaving a liquid called butter milk.
Hahaha I have a sweet tooth, and I DO put sugar in my cornbread (2/3 of a cup to be exact). I'm a New York boy, and if a southerner dines in my house, and I happen to be serving cornbread, DO NOT criticize or complain. Just be happy that I am cooking (from scratch) for you.
lynncrum is right - Southerners do not use sugar in their cornbread. I am really surprised this video incorporated the use of a cast-iron frying pan, which is the best way to get a fluffy inside, crispy outside pan of cornbread...at least that's how we do it in North Carolina. I also love to add chopped onions to my batter & fry it in hot oil in a skillet...yuuum!
ihateana your almost right, traditional southern cornbread is almost 2/3 cormeal with buttermilk and butter and slightly sweetened.Northern cornbread is very sweet,no buttermilk rarely butter and high proportion of white flour
Well if your gonna put it in milk for dessert you gotta have a little flour. I thought the ratio for meal to flour was a bit high myself. I think we used a ratio closer to 1 C meal to 1/4 C flour. My grandma liked that sweet yankee cornbread and my mother always made the coarser pan fried bread. I guess I had the best of both.
Yep, this is how you do it! Some greenbeans with new pot., fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and fried sweetcorn! YUM....my dad died last summer in the hills of Easter, KY. It is so sad this is my first year without all the garden produce.
He was a wonderful gardener and I know his friends and neighbors miss him, he loved to share it all, and took pride in it. When we knew he was dying, I told him it was raining on his garden (it really wasn't but I knew he would never know) he was so happy.
Yes maaaaaam, you have my attention. Now how about a cold glass of Butter Milk to go along with that corn bread? That'll make your tongue slap your brains out!
your pan dirty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone EVER put plain yogurt in their cornbread mixture? I did, cause I did NOT want to throw it away..Anyone else ever try this?
418sadeyes 3 months ago
@418sadeyes yes ive used yogurt in a pinch. Most of the time yogurt can be used in place of buttermilk
itsjustdeb579 3 months ago

Does anyone know where I could find cornmeal in Ireland, could I use polenta or is that just stupid?
spacehopper83 3 years ago
hi Spacehopper83, Polenta should be fine. It is not stupid to try. You can also grind the dry corn on a blender to the desired grit.
good lock

That's NOT southern conbread. Southern corn bread uses only corn meal, no wheat flour.

@lhateAna southern corn bread must be inedible, then... hate that corn meal stuff, its like eating sand.
hcvang 1 year ago
@hcvang oh no, it's wonderful. But it has to be cooked properly. Use butter. Or break it up in a bowl of milk.. yum :)

timothyngim 3 years ago
It's what's left over when they make butter. Hence it's name "buttermilk". It has a tangy taste.
