Had the Diaclone back in the 80s. It was fairly easy to find in US toy stores, sold as Diaclone Man or something. At the time, I thought it was a really inferior vehicle Voltron but what did I know. Still have one of the Diaclone pilot figures, minus his arms. The fact that he FIT inside the driver's seat of my G1 Transformer cars was what opened my eyes to what was really going on with Takara and Hasbro.
Pretty sure they sold these in the UK as 'Convertors' during the 80s Transformers craze. Remember seeing that Gestalt effort. Omega Supreme was also released as a 'Convertor! They were in my local shop. I was pretty impressed with them at the time.
I remember either me or my brother receiving that one robot that was composed of fourteen sub-component vehicles back in 1983 as a Christmas present. It was advertised in the JC Penney Christmas catalogue along with an early version of the toy that would be reissued as Shockwave for the Transformers line,
My Diaclone sucked ass. The arms never had the durability to stay on, so the fucking thing would fall apart during play. I remember one time when the thing decided to fall apart on the bus in 4th grade. Now, 20+ years later, bits and pieces of this shitty ass toy still appear in my parents' basement!
I actually have a nearly complete set of the good-guy bot in my closet (it has all of the vehicles, both pilots and one of the two plastic missiles all in their original box) but I'm not willing to part with it just yet. ^_^;
Some childhood memories are worth keeping a little longer. ~_^
I agree. You know, perhaps you should try your best not to part with it at all. Some childhood memories aren't just worth keeping a little longer, they're priceless. ^_^

So who or what was it that the Diaclone battle mechas were constructed to fight against?

@tshippy36 Yup. Vehicle Voltron is what I always called it. I have a mostly complete Large scale version of it to boot!

I guess that's why this particular Diaclone toy wasn't reinvented in America as a Transformer.

Because they didn´t transform in individual robots i think

I had Gats Blocker When I was a kid, but I have no idea what happened to him. I want a new one. :(

They do look cool, but with SO many parts it will take years to find a complete set... but those little guys almost made me puke...
