The legendary ad libs on this are similar to what he does in concert these days. Esp at the end "like some streams, you know, down like boys, you are, I suppose..." etc.
Sad thing is, Bowie "hated being compared to New Wave" yet he sold out when he made Let's Dance that sounded just like the bunch he hated. I'll give him props for getting Stevie Ray Vaughan, but without SRV, Let's Dance really blows.
@NeverGetOld2009 This is basically Numan's 'Teenage Wildlife' to the New Romantics, the same way Bowie sung Teenage Wildlife as an attack in Gary and the rest of the New Wavers
A much more world wise cynical 'metal' his hinting at the dubiousness of religion, fashion, fads and two faced people is seething,as well his new ad-libbed slurred vocal phrasing is more audible and creepy than ever pointing at topics to come in later albums. my opinion.
I think Dance is one of Gary's best albums, really quite experimental. After that I agree with revehent below., It was a steady steep decline. But I would definately include Dance as a great piece of work. I would of love to have seen him continue working with Mick Karn.
Gary Numan burnt out after TELEKON, his career was three masterpiece albums, Replicas, P-P, and TELEKON, like all new wave bands, once their sound was perfected they could't drum up too much fresh material without looking at their masterpieces to draw on. Better to have ONE MASTERPIECE album, or 2 or 3 than piles of crappy albums with one good song. Sure he had the odd hit here and there after like many others, but he left his mark from 1979 to 1981 with music that will never be duplicated
Its such a long time since i listened to this album, like a breath of fresh air.

I prefer Metal but this was a real surprise when i first heard it. He is right that the New Romantics are so boring....

This is actually quite different to Metal, almost like a second movement in a symphony starting with Metal.

"Moral", took the tune from Numan's 1979 song "Metal", changing its lyrics into an attack on the New Romantic movement.

Dance is one of his best albums, all of his albums from the 80's excluding Outland, were amazing.

Good Lord this song hasn't lost anything after all these years.
Still knocks me right back. That guitar is awsome.

What's he saying at the end of this song? I can't understand it and it was never printed in the lyrics.

This was played live more than once, the Metal/Moral version and he did it a few times around 1994 I think.

He played Metal live a while back in around 1980 I think and it had lyrics mixed up from this track.
