@Spectonimous That is so very wrong and you know it. I can't believe that you could insult a professional sax player like that - better than most people will ever be.
He was not copying - in improv, copying is playing the same rhythms and/or notes as someone else. He was certainly not doing that. The rhythms may have been similar - because all rhythms are repeated all through music - and the notes were similar because you can only play with 12 notes through a few octaves, but "copying" is wrong.
@Spectonimous Also keep in mind, in jazz, when you solo after someone it's totally acceptable and expected to borrow ideas from the first soloist. In jazz it's not copying, it's "quoting" or "playing off of each other". They basically take an idea that the first player used and re quote it, then expand on it. These two have been playing together so long that they can play off of each other all day. The collective improv part is a perfect example. It's a beautiful thing to see. Keep swingin!
Aren't they just blowing over the A section of Rhythm Changes? They're not playing around with the song, just putting it in a context they already know haha ingenious!

that improv sounded so bad with the background..like its just him playing a shit ton of notes...like i realize he sounds great, and alone he would be amazing, but honestly those two things did not go well together
@now5230 this is victor goines on tenor sax, get to listen to his stuff, especially the tunes with the LincolnJazzCenterOrchestra like Coltrane´s "Giant Steps". he´s a famous brilliant clarinet-player as well.
I love the dixieland style collective improvisation. Sounds sooooo good. Wish i could be as good as this man, or afford a monette trumpet, either way lol.
damn. Im only 14, and Ive been playing trumpet for about.... 5 years? Im no where close to Wynton. Then again, I only play 11th grade stuff (4.0-4.5). And Im in the 8th grade. Anyway, fantastic trumpeting.
