His swing was effective.... for him. There is no one perfect swing, finding your individual zone is key. It must follow the principles of stability/mobility/strength throughout in the right areas, but it must match your own physiology.
How ironic that Hogan really didn't have a swing coach looking at his form everyday, ( unlike tiger w/ foley or Phil w/Butch... And they still spray 50yd pulls & pushes.
You NEVER saw Hogan spray it like they do...Hogan peaked in his 40's!!!
@lonestargun first, because today's golf instruction sucks; second, because Hogan knew something about physics and something about anatomy; third, because he and his companions had to play with unforgiving equipment unlike these poor "professionals" of today
MIKE AUSTIN WAS THE GREAT TEACHER IN THE WORLD TO GOLF AND HE HIT THE GOLF BALL 515 YARD AT AGE 64, DAN SHAUGER LEARNED FROM THE BEST TEACHER MIKE AUSTIN. I HAD SEVERAL LESSON FROM DAN AND NOW I HIT MY GOLF BALL STRAIGHT DOWN THE LINE NOW AND WITHOUT BACK PAIN AND HE HELP WITH MY PUTTING AND SHORT GAME, DAN HAS 2 BOOK AND 27 DVD AND HE WORKING ON 3RD BOOK NOW aperfectswing I PLAY A BETTER AROUND OF GOLF NOW, WITHOUT BACK PAIN AND CHECKOUT DAN BOOT CAMP I DID , HE HELP ME OUT ALOT GREAT TEACHER
If anyone can do it, I'll try. I'm coming back to golf, so there's no better action to try and emulate. Hogan has a beautiful looking swing; the man is so fluid, and those hips generate so much power and whip - people should really take note, that is where the power in a swing is, not the arms. And that connection between the arms and body - no one has ever explained or demonstrated it so simply. I tried it last night and it felt very right. Interesting to see how it goes on the range.
Gradually got more consistent. Approached, then bettered my handicap twice towards the end of the year, once in a game where we were only allowed 2 clubs and a putter. Hogan may have smiled knowingly...
The people who knew Mr. Hogan knew of his great dry sense of humor . So when he said "anyone can do that" he was cracking a joke. But he was giving actual advice in reference to your elbows staying connected to your body (for the "1 plane swingers" out there)
I really want to thank you for posting this video, it has made a HUGE difference for me! I had 6 pars and 1 birdie in 12 holes today... I wrote a blog about it and linked to your Youtube video...
I agree. I believe this is the difference between Mr Hogan and Tiger.
Tiger has always had a somewhat disconnected look to me at impact, whereas Hogan's right arm was tucked in close to his side with his left arm pinned across his chest. Hogan was phenomenal at impact.
This drill really helped me understand the relationship between the arms and chest.
@robbinzo Yes, if you have "core strength" then you can go places in golf when you are "Connected" and in sync.
It's a Turn of the body, and if your grip pressure is right and you keep the Ken Venturi pre-impact thought and don't get weight outside your right ankle, you're there!
Nick Faldo figured it out; but he's a pathetic head-case.
Jack Nicklaus knows all this, but he did it consistently with an insanely upright swing that most guys would bury the club behind the ball and break a rib.
I believe if Hogan played in his 60's today. NO ONE would post a score lower than his. Even if they were on fire. They would def have to make par or bogey on purpose.
The fact that Mr. Hogan was not only a guest on Ed Sullivan's "Toast of the Town" but was asked to demonstrate techniques from his instructional manual says a great deal about the man.
Anyone can do that.... but how many people will hit hundreds of thousands of balls until they nail down each detail without having to think about it? Not many...
Imagine Ben Hogan with today's clubs and equipment. He would be unbelievably amazing lmfao!
