  • NORWEGIAN WOODSTOVE YEAAAAAH!! Finally not only swedish equipment :) Not that I hate on swedes, I love Bahco tools etc.

Wranglerstar: What happened to the other property?

  • Great video. Carrying a gun! Wow, didn't realise wood burner installation was so dangerous - LOL!

  • Outstanding video. Thank you.

  • Your videos are SO comprehensive. You are SERIOUSLY a source for good in this world. THANK YOU.

  • Outstanding info. I think you have a calling making instruction related videos. Enjoys all you put out. Thank you for taking the time.

  • pretty darn good job! a note: the old jotul wood stoves have an "unsafe" air intake systems. if it's anything like my jotul 602 at my ranch, there will be a direct open path from the fire box to the interior of your home. i've witnessed embers popping out through the intake holes. burnt a rug because of it. there's an easy fix... pull the intake apart, and cut a piece of round stainless screen with a hole in the middle, and insert it behind the front spin wheel. good luck!

  • Hooking a wood burning stove like that up to a heat exchanger makes a lot of sense where you simply use the heat to heat up a large volume of water and retain it making it into a central heating solution. A mass heating rocket stove also makes so much heat for a long time and burns so clean.

  • That wood stove really makes the room. Great video as always & now you have this job checked off just before winter. Take care & God bless

  • great job cody i just did a similar job myself this autumn, check it out if you get a chance " rayburn solid fuel range cooker" God bless !!

  • just saying that the song at the beginning of this amazing! i was not expecting to hear a Tori Amos into to installing a wood stove,,,,,, AWESOME~!

  • Don't forget the insurance angle. I had a pellet stove installed and went to change home owners insurance companies a year later. When they heard pellet stove....they wanted the installers info, a copy of the approved building permit because they wanted to make sure it was professionally installed or they wouldn't write the policy. Even then, they tacked on a $30 rider / yr for the stove.

  • you could also put metal screen around the rain stopper to stop sparks and critters

  • Cody, your roofing around your stack is installed incorrectly. You might want to get that fixed before it rains, the way you have it installed (the flange around the pipe not installed under the comp shingles) is sure to leak.

  • Wow!! Another fantastic how too. What software do you use for editing?

  • Very informative...as always.

  • great vid! thanks. im enjoying seeing what your doing at your new place. Merry Christmas my friend to you and yours

  • outstanding job, well done, thanks for all the info !!

  • "The Woof" wow you yanks gotta diff way of saying Roof :]

  • Awesome !!! DKG

  • Any way you can just pipe it out the wall?

  • That wallpaper..........it's your next project.

  • great video only thing i noticed was your hole needs to be 14" for your roof penetration ti have 2" clearance

  • really nice to see you back online :)

  • Love your videos Cody. You will need to place the roof flange UNDER the shingles or it will surely leak. Only the bottom few inches should be exposed on the top of a course of shingles. This should be done like any other flashing on a skylight, cheek, or chimney. Best of luck in your new place and keep the videos coming.

  • Thank you for taking the time to film and post this very helpful video. You are a nice man. Good luck with your new homestead.

  • Excellent video, thanks!

  • Nice Job Buddy!

  • Excellent video Cody, you make it look simple. Nice attention to the small details and safety concerns. Well done and look fwd. to more DIY from your channel.

  • i hope you post a tutorial on how to sweep the flue pipe when it come time...thanks for the upload...

  • I cant tell you how much i appeciate your videos Cody great job brother

  • Great job/install video! Nothing warms the heart and sole of your home, quite like a real wood fire from your, glass-front, wood stove. Thanks for sharing it with us, take care, Mr.Graygrizz.

  • Cody,

This DIY video was very informative and entertaining. To be honest you could be the host of a TV show doing this. I think you will help a lot of people become more independent & confident that they can do these DIY projects themselves through this series. Keep up the good work looking forward to more!

  • Wood heat is the way to go just takes a little more work. Get a good efficient wood stove you are good to go. You also need a wood stove that is approved so your insurance company will give you insurance on your house. In Canada they have to be CSA approved I imagine in the USA they need the same approval.

    Great video Cody !

  • dude that black pipe needs replaced call mei can get you a great price NEW not used!!

  • i sell those stoves they are the best stove they also have a more modern stove look called SCAN. anyone interested pm me thanks guys

  • Thanks Cody. This was a cool project

  • I am not exaggerating when I say this is far more informative and entertaining than anything I have ever seen on television. I can't tell you how highly I respect your "do it right the first time attitude". I learn a great deal from your videos and I eagerly await the rest of the series. Thank you for your time.

  • the minutes in this video are worth way more than its weight in gold

  • Very nice. Always appreciate your additional commentary/tips. Thanks for sharing this Cody.

  • I just can't wait to do a project like this. Thank you Cody.

  • Great video Cody, thank you very much, was hoping to see another DIY video, glad to see they are back :D and wanna say again, the new property looks awesome ;)

  • what model jotul stove is that? it looks nice.

  • Well Cody that was a wonderful video, keep up the great work.

  • Can't wait to watch! Ive been needing this video!

  • Great video

    Very detailed

    Thanks

  • Great Video Cody, Really enjoyed it

  • nice vid for average folks. I love my wood stove up here in the granite state.on a seperate note, do you still have the excavator? what happened to the timber frame project?

  • I’m will be starting this project soon. Good info well timed. Thanks for sharing.

  • Always a pleasure to watch your videos.

Hope you don't change or sell out.

    Cheer.

  • Great Job Cody! That stove looks so much like our old Vermont Castings cast iron stove - beautiful stove :) (Only ours is plain black.) We have heated exclusively with wood for years - it can't be beat if you live where wood is available. So nice to fill it up at night and shut it down and have it warm in the house in the morning :)

  • Great video. Good looking install and stove selection.

  • great job, great info and great vid

  • why are the pre -85 stoves illegal

  • @baronmaul probably pollution standards...

  • you can also use the spiral looking CFL in your light. You can even drop them, the also last for years

  • @freakshow2000 True that vibration or even some shock won't break a CFL, but if you drop your clamp on work light and break that sucker you just contaminated the room with mercury. I don't care for the light they output either.

  • Thanks for sharing! I don't even own a house, watched, and banked it all anyway!

  • Ughhh I miss my wood stove sooooo much, haha

  • Nice stove and piping.....I might have missed it but, did you seal the flashing? Thanks!

  • Well done !

  • Congratulations with Norwegian quality stove. They still make high-quality stoves.

Impressed with the simple chimney-system. In Norway Where i live we always use concrete chimneys; but when installing a new stove in an old house this way must be smart and efficient.

  • Fantastic video Cody!!!

  • great in-depth video

  • Another great and informative video Cody!

  • Awesome information. Thanks, Cody!

  • i have had a wood stove sitting around for years i might just have to set it up awsome video

  • ★★★★★

  • Great video! I hope you do more like this, it's really informative.

  • Awesome! This will come in handy when I install my own. With the help of your video, I'm more confident. Thanks for taking the time.

  • i usually put caulking between shingels and metal to

  • Thanks for a great video Cody. I was shocked last year when I found a great deal on a brand new stove and then found out I couldn't afford the rest of the materials needed to install it at the time. I had no idea how expensive the stive pipe was. Thanks for taking the time to show how to install a wood stove!

  • living by the ocean, stainless steel gets eaten up by the salty air , doeslast acouple of years before degrading.

  • Your dog seems to like it :)

  • That was cool. What year is your stove from Cody?

  • What a great and instructional video. I hope you do this for many other projects.

I know that these videos are time consuming but they are greatly appreciated.

Thank you again, and may GOD bless you and yours, JC

  • Excellent work, Cody. And thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas!

  • I would really like to see you make a rocket mass heater at your place...

  • Really well done, I appreciate the information.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  • Nice job Cody, the information you've provided will be very useful. Thanks for taking the time to record it . God Bless you and your family and I hope you have a Blessed Christmas.

  • Thanks a million for sharing your skill. I need to install a stove at my place soon. I was unsure of what to do. You answered alot of the questions I have so far. God Bless

  • The EPA needs to be banned! Great video sir!!

  • *****

  • Excellent video and info. Thanks. (from Southamerica...30º C here, but the winter will come..)

  • Blessed again! Thanks friend.

  • Great vid Cody! I did my first installation of a wood stove about 3 yrs. ago. Wood heat is definitely the best. Great great vid, thanks for all your help and knowledge, people will really benefit from this. God Bless.

  • Excellent work Cody, I'm envious.

I'm gathering the materials for a wood stove too. I've been dreading the cost of the pipe and I'm not too keen on cutting holes in the roof either.

  • fantastic job Cody

  • if i were you, i would fill the gutter between the top shingles with tar to protect the top edge of your flashing (if it really is only tucked under a couple of inches), and then i would apply a thick bead down both sides of the flashing where it meets the shingles - because rain water most definitely isn't restricted to just flowing down hill.

  • flashing to the top of an irregular surface like asphalt shingles, which almost never works - again thx to capillary action - and completely contradicts building code here in Canada. i'm really not posting this to be a smart ass or anything of the sort, i just like to see things done properly (at least according to manufacturers specifications) and i'd hate to think of an otherwise great job gone to hell over something easily preventable...(cont'd...)

  • the 'exposed' shingle tabs/gutters. the sides, unfortunately, will certainly leak as well. the flashing should be underneath the shingles here except the last couple of rows on the bottom side of your pipe - these bottom shingles go underneath of the flashing. the reason the shingles on the side should be on top of the flashing is because it's much easier and effective to tar/seal the bottom of the shingles to a smooth surface like metal flashing, than it is to seal the bottom of ...(cont'd..)

  • (thin factory slots cut into shingle tabs), then it will likely run under that 5-1/2" exposure a little bit - which is normally no big deal, but your flashing edge is exposed (especially if you can see it in that one shingle gutter behind the top side of your roof flange) and when the rain water hits it will inevitably work itself underneath - especially with some help from surface tension and capillarly action. the top of your flashing needs to be flush or higher than the top of the (cont'd...)

  • as a red seal carpenter/contractor who's installed/replaced many chimneys and roofs, (AND a big fan of your videos), i really hate to inform you that your roof flashing is going to leak eventually - if not the first rainfall. the top of the flashing should be lapped under the upper shingles by at least the full 5-1/2" exposure - it doesn't need to go any further, but any less and there's a really good chance that rain water will run down the gutters in the shingles (cont'd...)

  • Thank you for this vid!

  • Very good instructions thanks in time will be using this video as a guide to installing my stove. Blessings!

  • Great video, watched it while drinking my coffee on a cold slushy New Hampshire morning. I can tell its most likely faster to do projects without a video camera in one hand , But thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed it

  • cody excellent video,i put my soapstone woodstove build in new hampshire in my home last yr new constuction.i like the black double wall i have single wall which imm going to upgrade with the piping from canada.i used the same in ss double walled.good luck with it and real nice video.

  • yeah awesome video! it was really entertaining, especially your easy to understand explenation. where did you learn all that stuff.

    merry christmas from holland!

  • Good step by step.. Great vid. Thanks for uploading.

  • Thanks so much! Im just about to install a new stove in my sap house.

  • Very nice install, that's exactly the way I installed mine ! Mine has been in this house for 13 years ,and other homes of mine as well .I never realised that my saw blade could go both ways ,DUH ! Thanks for the info . That stove should really add to the Holiday ambiance around your " new " home . I also wanted to mention that I am glad to see you have a bed close to the stove for your little buddy there , she will grow to love that spot , Good Job !

  • Wow, truly an excellent video Cody, I watched the whole thing !!

When you clean out the chimney for the first time could you make a video of that as well?

    Merry Christmas =D

  • Of my dozen or so YouTube subscriptions yours are my favorite because they are the most practical. Great Job!

  • Greetings from the Netherlands,

Thanks for this great instructional video, you realy have talent for explain things so that none experts can understand it.

  • How do you keep the glass door clean? I gave up on mine!

  • @wncprepper I use a razor blade on mine. Then finish it with a little windex.

  • @wncprepper by burning dry hardwood in the stove. a blackened window is a sign of build up. Its also a good idea to let the fire roar every now and again, that burns off the small stuff before it becomes big stuff. FyI these are tips from New Hampshire , it may differ in other climates.

  • @wncprepper We have made up a mixture of vinegar, a little rubbing alcohol, and water for stove glass cleaner, it works really well for us. You can find the mixture amount on the web. We just clean ours about once every 3 to 4 weeks. I have one flat piece of glass so it is easy.

  • Greatings from Norway :-)

Cool to see a Norwegian wood stove in the states. Marry Christmas from a fellow prepper in Norway.
