pretty darn good job! a note: the old jotul wood stoves have an "unsafe" air intake systems. if it's anything like my jotul 602 at my ranch, there will be a direct open path from the fire box to the interior of your home. i've witnessed embers popping out through the intake holes. burnt a rug because of it. there's an easy fix... pull the intake apart, and cut a piece of round stainless screen with a hole in the middle, and insert it behind the front spin wheel. good luck!
Hooking a wood burning stove like that up to a heat exchanger makes a lot of sense where you simply use the heat to heat up a large volume of water and retain it making it into a central heating solution. A mass heating rocket stove also makes so much heat for a long time and burns so clean.
Don't forget the insurance angle. I had a pellet stove installed and went to change home owners insurance companies a year later. When they heard pellet stove....they wanted the installers info, a copy of the approved building permit because they wanted to make sure it was professionally installed or they wouldn't write the policy. Even then, they tacked on a $30 rider / yr for the stove.
Cody, your roofing around your stack is installed incorrectly. You might want to get that fixed before it rains, the way you have it installed (the flange around the pipe not installed under the comp shingles) is sure to leak.
Love your videos Cody. You will need to place the roof flange UNDER the shingles or it will surely leak. Only the bottom few inches should be exposed on the top of a course of shingles. This should be done like any other flashing on a skylight, cheek, or chimney. Best of luck in your new place and keep the videos coming.
Excellent video Cody, you make it look simple. Nice attention to the small details and safety concerns. Well done and look fwd. to more DIY from your channel.
Great job/install video! Nothing warms the heart and sole of your home, quite like a real wood fire from your, glass-front, wood stove. Thanks for sharing it with us, take care, Mr.Graygrizz.
This DIY video was very informative and entertaining. To be honest you could be the host of a TV show doing this. I think you will help a lot of people become more independent & confident that they can do these DIY projects themselves through this series. Keep up the good work looking forward to more!
Wood heat is the way to go just takes a little more work. Get a good efficient wood stove you are good to go. You also need a wood stove that is approved so your insurance company will give you insurance on your house. In Canada they have to be CSA approved I imagine in the USA they need the same approval.
I am not exaggerating when I say this is far more informative and entertaining than anything I have ever seen on television. I can't tell you how highly I respect your "do it right the first time attitude". I learn a great deal from your videos and I eagerly await the rest of the series. Thank you for your time.
Great video Cody, thank you very much, was hoping to see another DIY video, glad to see they are back :D and wanna say again, the new property looks awesome ;)
nice vid for average folks. I love my wood stove up here in the granite state.on a seperate note, do you still have the excavator? what happened to the timber frame project?
Great Job Cody! That stove looks so much like our old Vermont Castings cast iron stove - beautiful stove :) (Only ours is plain black.) We have heated exclusively with wood for years - it can't be beat if you live where wood is available. So nice to fill it up at night and shut it down and have it warm in the house in the morning :)
@freakshow2000 True that vibration or even some shock won't break a CFL, but if you drop your clamp on work light and break that sucker you just contaminated the room with mercury. I don't care for the light they output either.
Congratulations with Norwegian quality stove. They still make high-quality stoves.
Impressed with the simple chimney-system. In Norway Where i live we always use concrete chimneys; but when installing a new stove in an old house this way must be smart and efficient.
Thanks for a great video Cody. I was shocked last year when I found a great deal on a brand new stove and then found out I couldn't afford the rest of the materials needed to install it at the time. I had no idea how expensive the stive pipe was. Thanks for taking the time to show how to install a wood stove!
Nice job Cody, the information you've provided will be very useful. Thanks for taking the time to record it . God Bless you and your family and I hope you have a Blessed Christmas.
Thanks a million for sharing your skill. I need to install a stove at my place soon. I was unsure of what to do. You answered alot of the questions I have so far. God Bless

as a red seal carpenter/contractor who's installed/replaced many chimneys and roofs, (AND a big fan of your videos), i really hate to inform you that your roof flashing is going to leak eventually - if not the first rainfall. the top of the flashing should be lapped under the upper shingles by at least the full 5-1/2" exposure - it doesn't need to go any further, but any less and there's a really good chance that rain water will run down the gutters in the shingles (cont'd...)
