I think it's too easy to blame the police and government; it's a broader problem. In fact I'd say bad parenting probably played a huge part in this event. Let's also not forget the responsibility of the rioters themselves. Not everybody is a victim of social deprivation or systemic discrimination or familial abuse - some people choose to do bad things because of greed or thrill seeking. Don't provide them with a neat get out clause just so you can score points against the government.

Of course it's a social problem when a lot of young people feel no moral or ethical qualms about stealing and damaging public and private property. It's also a social problem if that same demographic feel certain professions, circles and opportunities are inherently unavailable to them, and therefore feel outside of general society. Well, there are several reasons for the riots. I've read a book called London Evilz which tells a futuristic story of how riots bring the government down. It's a good read. Just quoting that whole book would be a good analysis for what could happen.

I think it's too easy to blame the police and government; it's a broader problem. In fact I'd say bad parenting probably played a huge part in this event. Let's also not forget the responsibility of the rioters themselves. Not everybody is a victim of social deprivation or systemic discrimination or familial abuse - some people choose to do bad things because of greed or thrill seeking. Don't provide them with a neat get out clause just so you can score points against the government.

Of course it's a social problem when a lot of young people feel no moral or ethical qualms about stealing and damaging public and private property. It's also a social problem if that same demographic feel certain professions, circles and opportunities are inherently unavailable to them, and therefore feel outside of general society. It's a self fulfilling prophecy, because then you won't bother acting in a way which will enable you to succeed, you won't work hard, you won't abide by laws etc.

To the woman in the vid, There's a reason there's alot of stop and search in those areas. It's not because of skin colour, it's because there is high crime rates there. Move somewhere else, and you'll see the difference.
