  • u cant make a comparison like this...

  • looks like a 1950s computer of some sort

  • Hey guys I'm the author of "Your Life is a Business: Understand How the World Works to Become Wealthy". It's available at a great price 2.99. I hope you enjoy it.

  • who really cares about how fast it is. if I can get to the internet on the go thats all I care about. With the wi-fi you need to be by a wireless hotspot

  • DO you have to pay for the 3g service?

  • @thetito626 no amazon pays for it

  • @forsaken707

wi-fi is needed else she needs to visit burger king or other hotspot services.

  • @ButterySnowBoard

If you really want to download books then yes. Otherwise you saw how slow the browsing is...

  • In your opinion is the 3g worth the extra money?

  • I'M GONNA PUT DINA RIGBY IN THE GROUND!!!

    amazon.com/Dish-Served-Tales-Revenge-ebook/dp/B004W82MCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312576271&sr=8-1

  • One word: tripod.

  • The Amazon web site says "Kindle with Special Offers has all the same features as Kindle (Latest Generation) and is available with Free 3G + Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi only connectivity."

I would think "all the same features" would include the 3g browsing. Does anyone have the special offers version so you can tell us for sure?

  • @ed1958ed I have a 3G with Special Offers and it does include browsing the web.

  • @LenEdgerly Thanks for your reply. Despite the wording at Amazon the special offers kindle and original kindle are identical hardware. I can't see any reason to buy the original over the special offers version.

  • Kindle 3 - 3G is now only $139 for ad-supported version! I think I might get one just for the free 3G connection and the web browser. I don't read too many books, but the browser is what interests me. Can you tell me, does the Kindle include a backlit screen for reading in dark rooms, or would I need a light on?

  • Can you surf any web-page with kindle 3? or just wikipedia and the ones in the bookmark.

  • Looking sexy in the licra!!! I keeds :D

  • @forsaken707 Your aunt will need a WiFi source to buy books. If none exists at her home, that could be inconvenient, but if there is a coffee shop nearby that might work. It gets complicated if there's a password, and she has to set up the WiFi the first time using Settings.

  • @PenultimateRun Nope.

  • is the 3g completely free for as long as you have the kindle ? and is it worth the 50 bucks? please respond

  • @magicisawesome111 Yes, it's free for as long as you have the Kindle. It's worth the extra $50 if you frequently need to buy content or browse the web away from WiFi. I like it for buying a magazine at an airport just before my flight leaves. So for me, yes, the convenience of 3G is worth the extra. I just bought a 3G with Special Options, which is just $164 - a pretty good deal given the free 3G, IMO.

  • @LenEdgerly Thank you. I saw that it is now only $164 so i am definitely considering it. Thanks for getting back to me so fast!

  • @LenEdgerly It looks like the Kindle with the "Special Offers" only supports the Web Browser over Wi-Fi, not 3G.

The (now) $139 Kindle 3G with Special Offers states:

New WebKit-Based Browser - Browse the web over Wi-Fi (experimental)

    The $189 Kindle 3G states:

WebKit-Based Browser – Free 3G web browsing (experimental)

    Is my assumption correct?

  • Do you think that the 3G would work properly in Brazil?

  • @forsaken707 - you don't have to have wifi at your house but you MUST have wifi access somewhere and you'll only be able to get books when you do have wifi. Also, DON'T get the $114 version. That one has constant ads on it which is why it is cheaper. You're only saving $25, but now you'll have ads on the screen constantly. Since your aunt doesn't have wifi at home I'd really recommend that she get the Wifi + 3G version or get a wireless router if she has internet at home.

  • @forsaken707

You can access the Kindle store (& the internet in general) anyplace there's a Wi-Fi hotspot (ie starbucks, library), just as long as it doesn't require a password. If it does, & you have it you still can, just punch it in.

  • Buy it now on Mahaffeyiti(dot)com for the cheapest price on the net !!!! Kindle 3G is Amazing !!

  • ur wifi has only 3 bars (1:12), get closer to ur router n re-run ur test.

  • Kindle 3 probably uses AT&T 3G

  • The Kindle is the best idea ever! I was looking on Amazon and you can buy a E-book for $1.25! The book that I was looking at ranged from $8.75 to $17.50! Hmmm $1.25 or $8.75/$17.50?

  • This is quite a pointless video, it is pretty obvious which is going to be faster....

  • I say this is video is inaccurate. The page loaded faster on both Kindles than any page loads at my house over my Wifi. So yeah, if you have fast internet at your current location, the wifi browsing will be faster...

  • i find it funny how you did this before a bike ride, pretty random! but great review!

  • I got a kindle for X mas. My mom said it was the newest generation of kindle and I have no clue how to use the facebook/twitter. Can somebody tell me a quick description on how to use it. And if you can go on youtube or something like that? My mom doesn't know either.

  • @LiveforDBZ Set up your Twitter/Facebook accounts under Settings using the Menu key. Highlight a section of something you're reading, then press ALT and the Enter keys. A dialog box will appear in which you can write a tweet or Facebook update. You can't watch YouTube or other videos.

  • @LenEdgerly Thank you it worked HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  • Can you watch any videos on it? Say youtube?

  • @BananasFinest Its an E-Book reader.

  • Did you really buy two kindles to "race" them smh! We are in a recession man!!

  • @C4myTube LOOOL

  • does the kindle 3 with 3g come with wi-fi, cuz i saw that theres a kindle 3 free 3g+ wi-fi. which one would be better to use in a foreign country like in japan or something?

  • @whateveryoudo1031 That's a good use-case for WiFi only. The 3G is an added convenience, for example if you find yourself at an airport and want to buy a copy of the NYT as your flight's leaving - 3G makes it easy.

  • free internet? what a steal...

  • you cant browse the internet normally with a kindle?

please inform me about what versions can browse freely and the price

  • this is great!!! but I have a question....Can you check you email like hotmail, Gmail, yahoo, etc.....???

  • @MomanMorales Yup you can. Im about to go buy one.

  • does that mean that if I get the 3G version, while I am in rural india I can get the internet on my kindle. cuz if that is the case, I'm totally going for it.

  • @emptyrob I think that in most countries overseas the 3G only enables you to get to Wikipedia, not general Internet browsing.

  • @LenEdgerly Hmm. Thanks Len. I'll keep investigating. Even moderate internet access could still make it worth the extra $50. I have not found any firm information on this yet, though.

  • @LenEdgerly that is not true, i am on holiday to italy and it is working fine with internet

  • @LenEdgerly - that is incorrect. Currently the browser is fully functional in at least 61 countries and India is in that list of 61 countries so if you can get 3G in rural India then you should be able to browse. Wikipedia is available in 100 countries. I will admit that the list of 61 countries is pretty strange though. All of the Americas but little in Europe (Ireland, Ukraine, Romania, Norway, etc.)

  • @emptyrob yes i have the 3g version its awesome

  • Using Mobile Version of Gmail should be great.

I hope Amazon won't get rid of the Browser. That would be bad bizness practice. "Experimental" probably means that you are on you're own if you have issues with the Browser.

    Thanks Len.

  • i don't have wi-fi, so does that mean i have to get the 3G version to buy books or does the wi-fi version come with a usb port?

  • @kikiransom - they all have usb ports and accept pdf files and what-not.

  • Thanks! The wifi is all I need, and you helped me see this :)

  • Common sense will led you to realize wifi speed will depend upon your internet speed.

  • Cottage? Assistant?...This guy thinks he's more then what he is...Geek.

  • will the w ebsite come out in colour or simply balck and white?

  • @kaerlighed Kindle's don't have color displays, the use E-Ink to replicate the experience of reading a book. Yeah you don't have color but it doesn't glare in the sun like LCD displays.

  • can you access any web site while on 3G? or does amazon block most?

  • @dogdude44 You can access any web site on 3G .

  • @LenEdgerly Is it free anywhere? how much does it cost to access web in Europe for instance? I understand that the cost of the surf is get back from Amazon from the cost of the book, but if I don't buy any, just surf the web?

  • @dogdude44 amazon doesn't really block sites. but lots of sites won't load on the limited browser.

  • @dogdude44 No blocks, but many web sites will not work. Any site with multiple windows (Gmail) for example. Still, for free, I cant complain.

  • step on it and see if it helps
