Yasuko Tajima retired after 2000 and couldn't even enjoy her silver medal because the Japanese media had put so much pressure on her that she felt like she was letting her country down by getting silver. Klochkova in her prime was just unbeatable. She didn't have a weak stroke.
Man, I was mad when I saw K-Sandeno finish 4th in this. Dan Hicks was calling the race and I heard him say: "Sandeno has fainted 4th, Kaitlin Sandeno has fainted 4th" But you must give credit to Yana in this race, she simply dominated the race from start to finish. She lost to my favorite swimmer of all time, Brooke Bennett, in the 800m freestyle, but she came close as well winning the silver. I was also happy to Sandeno win the bronze in that race.
I read from an article that interviewed her after the 2004 Athens games that she said she was going to try to make it to the 2008 Beijing games. However, it appeared that she may have retired from competitive swimming since she has not participated in any major swimming events since 2007 (as you said), however, it has been announced that she has retired from the sport, but I don't think that it is official yet at the moment. I saw her win this race and saw her almost win the 800 meters in 2000.
Wow. That's amazing! You're saying that Madeleine "Maddy" Crippen live in the same neighborhood? That means that you also live in Philadelphia, since that's where she's at now. I remember watching her on television swim this race against Kaitlin Sandeno who was 17 at the time (whom I wanted to see win in) and Yana Klochkova. Man, Dan Hicks was so mean and discouraging when he characterized Crippen as "the disappointing American swimmer" just as she she was getting introduced. Yana was amazing
@MachineRocket I Dan Hicks defense, she did finish 6th in the race. She looked very sexy in her swimsuit, however, especially compared to most of the other women wearing full bodysuits. I wish the women would swim in those high-cut suits again
You said that Maddy and you swim on the same team. So I'm assuming that Maddy still swims and can still swim the 400 IM. What team do you and Maddy swim for now?
