Yeah, quite right...easy to make big, relatively inexpensive power and cheap to make the car super competitive trackday. One can sqweeze fat rubber under even the standard early "skinny-body" cars and much bigger if you go Grp 4 bodywork. I am running 330/30x18's on my Grp4 replica. There is a little mix-up here and there. The company was founded by the Argentinian "Alejandro De Tomaso" who was a racing driver, but the Pantera model was actually designed by the American "Tom Tjarda", when he was working at the Italian firm, Ghia, & it was designed to have an American Ford V8.

Ghia was purchased by Ford in 1973.

Two great cars to see race together, I would've rather seen the Diablo SE30 Jota though, a much better looking Diablo with 595BHP and 471ft/1bs of torque! RWD too! About 120MPH+ it's acceleration is damn near unbeatable due to the gear ratios and the extra 6th gear to push them closer together, surprised to see the Pantera win this race but then I guess the Diablo would've had a chance to excel if the track was longer!

i saw this race from the tribune. the diablo was from switzerland ( i think, long time ago) but like all diablo drivers this one also had a bad start just to "save" the clutch. dont know why because the diablo was an 4wd diablo. just snap the gear in at 5k and youll have a good start in a diablo with VT. i ll be back again at viva italia this year. hope to see such a drag race like this again :-)

This car has a 427 cu in stroked Ford Windsor in it from what I hear. The engine package came from PI Motorsports. They make over 500hp and are all tested on a dyno before being shipped. This is not a stock Pantera but few Panteras are these days.

My dads 71 Pantera was slightly modified with the original 351 Boss in it, and his, on paper, was capable of over 200 mph. The fastest he had it was just over 165 on the highway with quite a bit left. It was still very fast off the line.
