  • i don,t give a shite what anyone says........Bream is the best classical guitarist bar none

  • The idea that Bream didn't like them seems crazy, and to me it's probably mega-bs. Watch the other video of him playing the bagatelle n.2, except from playing it wonderfully he really seems to enjoy it. I don't think he would fake it.

  • great interpretation by the Great Julian Bream,,,,,,,,,

and of course some of the greatest modern pieces for the guitar

  • I have to say, I have never heard the story that Bream did not like the Bagatelles. He recorded the set twice, first on the 1973 record entitled 'Julian Bream 70s' and then on the 1981 record, 'Dedication'. An artist of this calibre and with his repertoire (Graham Wade's recent book gives many past programmes and his recorded repertoire, although just about the largest of any guitarist, did not come close to the size of his performance reperoire) would not record a piece he didn't like twice.

  • A very nice Bream upload thanks. As for some of the comments below it's disgraceful. I'm working on a guitar pro 5 score of the bagatelles. It will show you TAB and notes. Any one who wants to play classical in tab can just look it up on google don't feel pressured by others, music is about enjoyment. The bream not liking the Bagatelles(do not besmirch Bream). He performed them in front of Walton who felt Bream played them better then he had written them .Bream is the yard stick on bagatelles!

  • wonderful. my favorite guitarist.

  • He's probably the liveliest classical performer I've ever seen..

  • 00:28 - Bream rips the whammy bar.

  • lol Please forgive my retardedness - I've just been listening to a lot of Britten. Replace every use of Britten by me with William Walton :P

  • you;re an idiot! I hope you're joking about that story because it's retarded and untrue. "pop/joke instrument"? Haha that's why he wrote 5 bagatelles for it. God you're an idiot "random mocker". How did you use britten for the extended period of that message? Jesus.

  • I'm not joking. I play Classical Guitar and I certainly don't think of it the same way as Walton does. He wrote the 5 Bagatelles for Julian Bream, at Bream's request - and Bream's disappointment with the Bagatelles combined with Waltons, I don't know - ignorance(?) of the guitar is what cased a rift between the two.

I had Britten in my mind while writing that comment and it just slipped out at the time of writing haha.

  • no but how did you get the idea that that's true, because I have never heard of such things

  • actually Bream said they were "gay" (his words NOT mine) pieces, and this made mr.walton really angry, but Bream was still forced to play them sometimes in his concerts (part of the commissions terms) and you can tell by how displeased and angry bream looks during the performance that this is true. Quite a scandle.. hrm. I must say I enjoy the pieces though, and I think bream still played them good even if he was displeased with them.

  • @version191 You know that his comment "gay" probably meant happy right? And he always looks likes that when he plays. It's his concentration face.

  • @StringsandSpruce44 It's likely. He was born in 1933 after all.

  • No, this is around 1977, thic concert. His accident was latr, 1984.

  • Is this perhaps the concert he played at his local church the year of his big car-crash injury? the one he worked towards to see if he could make it through the USA tour?

  • As far as I know, Bream recorded two versions of this (first) bagatelle. Here, he plays the fast version. But, the slower one is better I think.

  • If anyone posts a video of William Walton playing this bagatelle I will be VERY happy.

  • i doubt you'll find one, i believe he was an accomplished conductor but no guitarrist, maybe you can find the composers arrangement for orchestra called 'Varii capricci', i believe.

  • You want a tab for Bagatelles?

  • Yes, I would like the tabs for Con Slancio. Thankyou.

  • A tab? Jesus Christ, what. the. fuck.

  • @emilhemlock tab?? forget it tabs dont work for classical music mate... :)

  • @elvisPTpor :) Im sure that you are right :) I know that I am amateur. I am learning by myself how to play on guitar... and for now tabs are my only source of written music... unfortunetly.

  • @emilhemlock why dont u get a teacher? u MUST find a GOOD teacher and a good teacher is not the mst expensive guy but the one who passes his ideas in a simple way to his student. i guess ur playing on a classical guitar right?? u see classical guitar is much more difficult to play and master than electric guitar or accoustic guitar and the music done for classical guitar is also much more complex so i bet u dont wanna see a tab for a classical guitar piece especially for this particular one xD

  • @elvisPTpor haha tabs??

  • @elvisPTpor What exactly do you think Julian Bream reads when he plays the lute? Tablature combined with time value notation works just as well as standard notation for fretted instruments.

  • same thing for me.... the music is interrupted .

  • That pizzicato is absolutely incredible...

Oh Julian. You are the master.

  • This man is God.

  • Aca guido de argenina fanatico de Bream, buen video.

  • Perfect tone perfect playing. . . as always.

  • But there are small errors; this is an incredibly difficult piece and I bet no one can play if perfectly. But Bream has my fav version of the BAgatelles; I greatly prefer the first recording he did.

    Anyway; perfect is not human.

Nice to see it live here; so much more real than studio perfection. So expressive.

Bream is like the Hendrix of Classical guitar; as exciting as anyone.

  • totally dude.... ( the error at 00:56 hurts the most , ahhh )

  • HA; that was the video NOT Bream.

I love Bream; only a handful could play these so well.

Parkening tried but didn't do nearly as well.

The Bagatelles are among the best 20th Century solo guitar works.

  • Where are they? Id like to see them...also keep in mind that this video is in horrible shape so there may have been no guitar playing mistakes here.

  • Walton himself did not play the guitar.

  • Thanks for the News Flash.

You're about 30 years late in letting me know that.

  • Ahh but if anyone were to posses the original sheet music of the baggatelles, it would be Bream, yes?

  • Que buen video!!!muchas gracias por ponerlo.Pablo de Argentina
