@joebg1 only 4GB ram? Make that like, 12 or sometihing. There is a new board that actually has 2 Xeon sockets and supports 48GB ram. Now theres a setup. Put 2 6 core xeons in that and OC each to like 4.0Ghz and enable hyperthreading you have 96GHz!!
yea i have a laptop with HDD and when ever i use the hard drive when downloading things i have to have it on a flat surface because it just slows down my computer...
that number is per cell, not per drive, and it is actually a VERY large number... in other words, your SSD will outlive the usefulness of your computer...
why do we need to worry about making laptops thinner lol. i guess the only thing that would make me pay the heavy price for an ssd is the fact there not as easily damaged or prone to damage by knocks bangs bashes etc which are inevitable in laptops. hard disks are the most fragile componant in a laptop i would say so SSD all the way for mobile computing. Bying a laptop with SSD as standard is sure to be the cheapest way to get it.
Interesting how NONE of the SSD tests show a real world multi-tasking environment.
I have an OCZ SSD 64 and it totally fails, as soon as my PC is doing 2 or more read/write multi tasks I get horrendous lock ups. It is going back to the shop as unfit for purpose.
creo que falta mucho para que este al alcanze de todos los SSD en un precio accesible siendo que se necesitan discos de mas de 200 GB para todo lo que una PC requiere ahora
It's sad SSD speeds will soon surpass that of RAM. For example, DDR3 has much higher core clock speeds but their timings are through the roof. When it comes to DDR4 or 5 we will face very serous challenges. Traditional Hard Drives have been holding back computers for ages, but with SSD's, RAM will be the new limiting factor. Not only SSD's but CPU's are already capable of reaching speeds higher then what RAM can possibly achieve.
Your hardware's only as good as your worst component...
the reason ddr3 has more latency (cas 7 and up) is because the higher frequencies make it overheat, more wattage & heat causes latency its the same rule for processors, the higher the wattage a cpu has the more latency the cpus has, but thats something cpu companies dont like to talk about. the other issue with cpus with more than 20 watts TDP is that they gradually become microwave cookers
it would be easier if they made energy star and rohs compliant desktop cpus rather than needing an industrial air conditioner or fluid mechanism just to cool a chip down for playing a video game. geez! Cpus that need active cooling do because theyre poorly designed and inefficient. VIA can make chips that do 2 GZ and consume only 25 watts TDP, INTEL desktop chips on the other hand are mostly power inefficient which hinders performance stability and increases cost of ownership.
Well, a popular thing going around the desktop community is people using laptop processors on their desktops. They say with the right motherboard the overclocking possibility's are endless and there's no problems with heat. However, the downside is that laptop processor technology is always behind the desktop in terms of the # of cores. But I agree with you, I have a AMD Phenom 9950 and it's wattage is 140W which is just insane since its only a 200 MHz increase over the 9850(125W) 65nm sux...
this way early adopters will buy the junk low write speed ssds until the doublecrossers decide to put in the proper performance chips so that the writes become as fast as the reads ! remember ppl a strong economy system is a strong slavery system.
heres why ssds and ssd companies sucks! ssd companies conspired to install performance halting chips to slow down write speeds in ssds and then make them exacerbatingly expensive to protect the old cluncky mechanical hard drive market! economics sure suck! Even usb keys with fast write speeds were quickly discontinued.
Actually, they do. SSD's have a limited amount of reads and writes they can do and then they just die on you. That's not a hoax, it's the truth. Especially when used as HD, they *will* die on you someday.
wow i usually agree with you but you are really wrong ssd are only good for a little while. once you write on a section of the ssd hd you can never write there again it like a flash drive they really fast in the beginning but then they ultimately slow down
You have been misinformed. SSDs will not slow down after being used awhile. Due to fragmentation not mattering in SSDs since access time is so fast. Also flash memory have improved alot and can now be overwritten millions of times without degrading.

Not really - it takes quite a long time (over 5 years IIRC) of general use for it to become severely degraded.

1. sell the military the high end technology
